I'm not sure quadro nvs 135m is in which produce line but quadro is a workstation graphic card while geforce usually for home user for gaming. If 135 is same level wif 8400m gs (means both entry level) then 8400m gs would definitely perform better than 135m in term of gaming. However, super high end workstation graphic card can pawn mid end graphic card in no time.  biggrin.gif

lol, I noticed that it's in the same class as the 8400m GS but the 3D tests run on it showed results even worst than the GeForce 4 Go which is really surprising..

So for games, definitely a no-no?

the quadro is optimized for openGL applications, while geforce and the likes are optimized for directX

Hi guys noob here. I am planning to get a new laptop but am lost on some of the specs, hope you guys can really help me out. very sorry if this is not the place to post this here.

Wan to know, is there a performance difference between a 8600gs with 256mb GDDR3 or 8600gt with 256mb DDR2? I was reading this discussion here but it stops half way without any conclusion. Knowing that the GT is a faster card then the GS, would the DDR2 just be a bottleneck? or is the GDDR3 with the GS just a marketing hype and overspec-ed?

Also just read that Directx 10.1 is coming out soon. Will the current crop of 8600gt/gs run dx10.1?

NEC 6310 specs here 8600gs w/ dedicated 256 GDDR3
Asus F8Sv specs here with Ext 256MB VRAM (read that is was a DDR2)
Is there something to worry about when they say "external 256MB VRAM" since for me it sounds like shared memory versus dedicated memory

Thanks a bunch icon_rolleyes.gif

In short, the GT would perform better than the GS because of the addtional stream processors. Yes, the GDDR2 cripples it, but it'll still perform better than the GS. No, just like how the 7 series are not able to utilize dx10, the current 8 series can' support dx10.1.

Nvidia has announced that they have no plan on implementing DX10.1 on their upcoming 9 series.

No, Vram is Vram and turbocache is turbocache.

Get the GDDR3 8600m GT if you're that worried.

no.... even old time graphic card direct X is supported by hardware. Even if u have geforce 6 series or 7 series u still can install directX 10 in Window Vista but those non directX 10 supported gc will not able to run directX 10 features same goes to the gc previously.

Today's news from Dell shouldn't come as any surprise for notebook gaming enthusiasts. Dell officially announced the availability of dual nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX video cards (2 x 512MB) with nVidia SLI for the XPS M1730 and XPS M1730 World of Warcraft edition notebooks.

Dell claims the XPS M1730 laptop configured with dual GeForce 8800M GTX is capable of producing a 3DMark06 score of up to a 13,500 3DMarks ... a 49 percent improvement over dual nVidia Geforce 8700M GT SLI technology.

In short, this latest dual graphics card option delivers stunning performance even for demanding games like Crysis and BioShock.

Buying Choices for the Dell XPS M1730
Dell, Inc. | $3,974.00

While this might sound like bitter news for people who already purchased the XPS M1730, Dell has another surprise in store. Dell will offer a "graphics upgrade program" for customers with existing XPS M1730 and XPS M1730 World of Warcraft edition laptops!

New customers can configure the XPS M1730 with dual 512MB GeForce 8800M GTX cards for an additional $700. Details on the upgrade program will be available soon.

Of course, Dell is not the first notebook manufacturer to offer dual 8800M GTX video cards. Sager was first to the market with the release of the NP9262 with dual 8800M GTX cards last year.

Phew, I can't find adequate time nowadays to play some videogames, even on my lappy. Like in the case with my next benchmarked game; Riddick EFBB, I have finally been able to finish it although this game has been installed couple of months ago. Anyhow I'm glad this topic is still alive and kicking, with benchies and laptop gaming-centric discussions that pop up from time to time. Therefore I'm going to dedicate a certain time during my busy life like most of us in order to update the topic's first post to reflect new contributions and so on. Keep on the good work, guys. rclxms.gif

The Chronicles of Riddick - Escape from Butcher Bay: Developer's Cut

High settings playable on my Dell Inspiron 1420
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 @ 1.50GHz
Memory: 1.50GB 667MHz DDR2-SDRAM
Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (128MB DDR3)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 OEM (Dell)
Drivers: Microsoft DirectX 9.0c (Nov 2007), NVIDIA ForceWare G86 v156.83 WHQL XP

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a video game developed by the Swedish developers Starbreeze Studios set before the events of the movies Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. The Xbox version was released at the same time as the movie in June 2004 and a Windows version was released later that year in December. There is also a special x64 version of the game available. The likeness and voice of the movie's star, Vin Diesel, are also used for the game's main character, Richard B. Riddick. Escape from Butcher Bay received a good deal of critical acclaim, and was generally viewed as a very accomplished and innovative experience. Reviewers often commented that Butcher Bay was actually better than the accompanying movie. The video game website GameSpot gave the game considerable praise, saying it has "the best single-player action in a first-person game on the Xbox" (at the time of writing), and was "one of the best action games available" at the time of release. They also said it was "one of the best PC action games of the year". The game received a 'superb' score of 9.3 out of 10 on both platforms, though "enhanced visuals and exclusive extras make the PC version even better than the Xbox original". [from wikipedia]
