its a common oled failure la, nothing new. if it is really manufacturing defect, you will see the green line much earlier. what you having right now probably either water damage that corrode the components, electrical failure, wear out bent cable or physical damage.
you just having a bad luck, either repair the screen or buy a new phone and move on.

this is why i hardly invest on expensive phone, stuff breaks.

Shall I be worried?

So far A series quite safe. Only S top range should be worried.

I think it had to do with Samsung abysmal QC. My LG V50 which used LG own pOLED is still working just fine to this day and I bought that phone back in 2020, that's like 4 years already. My other Huawei P40 Pro phone (BOE OLED panel) also never had display issues.

Shame they had to drop out of smartphone market. I would upgrade to their latest model if they were still around today.

Guys, my S22 (base model) is now showing pink vertical line on the left side of screen. I bought it in April 2022. Never dropped it – the screen is otherwise in a flawless condition.

I went to Samsung express service center. They claim it cannot be replaced FOC.

This is a premium phone, how can the screen kaput so quickly? I'm not the only one - it seems many on the S20/21/22 lines have experienced it!

I updated the Oct and Nov updates back to back on 16th December 2024, but only saw the pink line this morning when I woke up.

I don’t use fast charging – only charge using Apple iPad’s 20W charger. I also turn on battery saver to conserve the shitty battery life.

I was going to upgrade to the S25, but unlikely now as even my previous S10e suffered display issues towards the end (the screen would have a yellowish tint - luckily it was intermittent and wasn't present when I performed the trade-in).

My P30 pro still working fine too. Samsung is so lucky cause Huawei is affected by the google and chip ban. When there is no powerful competitor, they are taking customers for granted.

My S20u got a green line about 2 days ago, this is my 3rd screen btw
The 1st is change during extended warranty period because of MCO, the 2nd is just last year but covered by SAMSUNG but this time if I want to change I need to fork it my self around 1.2k.

I think amoled does have this tendency my oppo also have the similar problem

Its a problem with any phone that uses samsung screens, which is the vast majority of the market. I got it on my sony xperia before as well.

I've done some research. Yes it seems to impact all manufacturers using Samsung displays, but it seems to be disproportionately impacting Samsung's flagship lines. You will find some iPhone users with this issue, but it's nowhere near as prevalent to suggest a manufacturing defect.

The curved displays will have it worse. This is because the flexes are bent and stressed all the time and this will lead to early delaminating and failure of the ACF connection. This is why Samsung top models get it worse, as most of their models are curved displays. People in the industry know curved displays have a shorter lifespan. And these lines are there since s8/s9. They do nothing much about it because it makes people buy new phones just like you don’t mind the battery going kaput.

iPhones using displays from Samsung also suffer from this but much lesser occurrence because of their flat surface being less stressful to the flex cable and joints.

Also, I believe even up to today they will still provide free repair on pretty old iPhones with green / pink / blue lines. But don’t quote me on Malaysia as we are a dump site.

I used to buy S series because it was great value but exynos is really Samsungs gift of sh!t to the whole non US world and telling us to eat it hot.

What’s worse is recently I was planning a move back to android after having a deteriorating experience with iPhones, and was browsing in a store. There were pixels, vivos, honors and lastly Samsung on display. The worst phones in terms of performance, lagging and response was the latest S series. You don’t get software right, hardware right, warranty right, then what for?

Realme can go change screen for free even after warranty. A lot of people got GT6 for free because they are out of screen.

Went to Realme service today and was offered GT6 for RM700 + trade in.. still a good deal.. they can replace a new screen for free but have to wait next year (February).. the defect GT2 pro screen was indeed from samsung..
