Ok since we're one Pana family. PM me if u're interested to buy a super good high quality bag for nonsence price. Its exactly like a Crampler photo bag but bigger and better. Ur eyes will pop out if u see the bag and the price tag with it. I can't send any pics of it now coz i'm in office. Might do it later when i get home.

Lol, I think I'm really blessed being the man who keeps bumping into crazy deals.

z18 extra batteries anyone?
best i get is

RM160 - Original
RM40 - Pirated

If we bulk it its cheaper.

IMO, don't bother strapping the lens cap to the camera. Its freaking annoying when u're taking pics especially when u have to be mobile and move alot to take shots. Just put the cap into ur pocket or in the bag.

if u're having a problem with dirty lens, from dust or alot dust on ur camera I suggest u get a cleaning kit and a LensPen Micro

Cleaning Kit cheap dea from Photo Miami @ seksyen 17 (Near Digital mall next to Baker's Cottage)
RM30 u'll get
Blower, cotton buds, lens cloth, cleaning liquid, lens brush, lens tissue.

LensPen Micro is awesomely fantastic for cleaning lenses but its more practical for DSLR users la.
Its about RM30 and hard to find u can get it in Foto Data @ Midvalley

hahaha chill dude. that's part of learning about using a good camera. would u be surprised if i tell u DSLRs do have the same problem even if u shake abit or move abit. If u wanna shake less try using P and auto settings will set in. but if u relaly wanna do photography with lotsa movement or sports photo u nid to do it on manual setting. then play around with the aperture, shutter and ISO (this takes alot of practise).

also u could try this tip. take shots after u breathout and about to breath in. also have a support for ur arms and if its too shake use the EVF, rest it on ur eyes and nose then u won't shake much.

worry not, i still do take blurry pics hahaha i'm also learning.

walau i keep all my pics on my pc no upload stuff wan... aiseh now gotta subscribe something pulak..... hahaha
i tot can upload image straight

Quite detailed information on the TZ3. Now I know, the best is to use 1 to 1.5X zoom for macro and stick to 9.5X zoom for best results. I'm sure this will help the other tz3 users here. This discovery will allow macro shots closer than 5cm. What about the other Panasonic cams?

FZ18 got manual focus but LCD cannot move.

A moveable LCD may sound good, but if you're not careful ...... you'll visiting the service center soon.

Wow nice Ewin smile.gif Its great to see another person with so much enthusiasm in the FX18 as well. I just came back from my China trip recently and I have taken some pictures using my newly bought FX18.

Still am learning about photography as well. Alot of questions in my mind too. For example, how do you determine for a particular scene, what should be the correct aperture or shutter settings if I am to use the aperture or shutter mode.

YouLiang - Get Fz18- better, if you want small compact then get Tz3 lo.

Jusstatic - I think you meant Fz18?

for scene selection - just follow the situation, if food, then set to food scene lo

but if you want it to be manual - then

Focus on 1 object - background blur - Aperture F number must be low
eg: 2.8

aperture number high - for scenery

shutter mode - high number shutter mode = longer = more light absorbs
shutter mode - low number shutter mode = FAST = less light absorbs

something like that la, I'm still new too, need to learn more

correct me if im wr

Yeah Ewin, I am referring to FZ-18 hehe, typo error. blush.gif

Yup, regarding the aperture: low aperture for blurred background, yes. But there are some values in between the lowest aperture setting and the highest aperture setting. Not sure when to use those values though. hmm.gif

I'm not expert but I suppose this can help.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture

From what I've read the middle values like 4.0 - 5.0 will provide the sharpest shots.

i just bought myself a FZ18 .....hehe..
still playing with all the settings

i found tat the default brightness of the LCD to be very misleading..where the pics taken are much more darker than it shown on the LCD itself =.=
so i changed it to the dimmest n it worked!

when/where do u guys usually use the iA mode? i found it pretty useless during night shots ...where it increased higher ISO n resulted noisy pics

anyone knows wat the tip of using in M-mode.
i tried to change the aperture & shutter speed according to wat i've learnt from book.
but the pics turned out to be white-out / extremely blur.

could anyone clear my doubts as well ??

Added on December 12, 2007, 12:22 am830808 - i've not tried shooting video with it yet...but i'm pretty sure not to shoot video during night time...another thing is it cant zoom while u're shooting video. btw, the cam is mean for shooting excellent photos more than shooting videos.

kevinyong84 - i think is because of the resolution , CCD sensor n leica lense it uses. main problem is cant zoom while shooting ==

but their full HD videocam is able to capture high detail crispy video coz using the 3CCD tech.

Hi guys, I'm new here but would like to share and gain with all u sifu.

I've own a Black Fz18 1.5 months ago and bought it from Lowyat for RM 1430.00 with a camera bag, 2gb memory and 1 year warrenty.

I do fully agreed that FZ 18 is currently the best after comparing for a month. Those under my consideration are as follows.
Olympus UZ560.
Fujifilm 8000
Canon 5is
Sony H7

Seems like I'm pretty lucky to bought this Fz18. Now, every one is searching for one but still out of stock especially the Black one.

However, I'm very happy with Fz18 but there are some drawback points like what other sifu did mantioned.
IA - seems pretty useless but my wife like it since she need not to know much and still get a very good pics.
M - manual focusing too un-user friendly with a very small joystick.
Lense - need a lens protector since it's too protruded.
MPEG - no zoom when recording.
biggrin.gif thats all I've found so far.

By the way, can someone tell me where to buy a lens protector and how much will it cost? Desperately need one soon since my wife keep-on leaving finger prints on it.

Thanks. and good luck

hi ~ u all can get the so called " lens protector " by using UV lens filter( which everyone is using it for protecting the lens and UV )
Check ur adapter ring is what size... normally is 52mm
then go search for 52mm UV filter lens or MC filter lens. Buy UV+MC filter is the best ! go google it u will know there's more filter can add to ur FZ series camera like CPL, ND, is very useful for scenery photo shoot !

Any where can get, sg wang, ampang mall, pudu ~~ all different price.

HOYA brand is recommended ~ Happy PANAing everyone

Still unable to really grasp the essence of taking good shots with the FZ18.
Especially for nightshots. Nightmode shots are not very ideal even with tripod

Any suggestions ppl? hmm.gif

Yes, 46mm is really odd. I've tried Foto-Shang and Fotokem. Both don't carry and stock.

As for the adaptor ring, it's completely not practical since its attached to the permanent lens hood where the lens will protrude when you zoom on.

Well, seems no choices at all but to find the 46mm filter(s).

Another set back.

Yes, never easy when taking night shots.

But you can try the - Scene - Party / Concert for low light indoor. Try out some detail setting for light source.

As for outdoor, I'll try out tonight and see if we can find something to share with.

Any advises from Sifu - Sifu??

but their full HD videocam is able to capture high detail crispy video coz using the 3CCD tech.

Auto Focusing seems perfect in FZ18 but I don't quite like the manual focusing.

Overall is a value buy cause the daylight photography seems almost perfect. Night photography - emmmm will try to find a solution. Afterall, seems like all other non-DSLR suffer more than FZ18. Some says that FZ50 did the best job for non-DSLR. With the price over RM2500.00 hmm.gif better go for DSLR.

Most of all FZ18 comes with RAW format and camera made in Japan. No other non-DSLR offer RAW format except Olympus 560UZ but made in Indonesia that perform worst than FZ8 what more to say FZ18.

Frankly, ISO for Fz18 isn't as good as Canon S5is. Other then that, Fz18 is pretty impressive within its range.

I don't quite agree with increasing the ISO for Fz18 since ISO 400 and above seems not impressive where ISO 800 seems almost unacceptable to me.

I prefer setting us the lighting condition and adjusting the exposure with ISO limited to max 400.

Try it out but for sure that fast movement of moving object still negative. rclxub.gif

youliang - the SD card i got is from Toshiba.according to the back of the SD box.

high speed type class 4
the min data transfer rate of class 4 is 4 MB/sec
Max write speed under optimal conditions is approx. 5MB/sec

btw, i'm using a mediocre spec laptop ,still i didnt find it to be slow while transferring. ^^

Hello everyone!

My friend looking into getting the FZ18, hopefully within this week.

Any recommended shop and price? What are the freebies?

Seems like Fotokem is selling it at RM1599. Now I have to bargain my way through, which I'm not very good at.

Thank you for any advice.

TZ3 uses shutter speeds between 8 sec and 1/2000 sec and also 15, 30 and 60 sec. in starry sky mode.

Detailed TZ3 analysis

So 1/4000 is not possible. I guess the scene mode to use for this water shot would be the sports and intelligent iso .

Bought a Carrefour bluesky mini tripod for tz3 for RM9.90 only which i think is cheap. It fit's the tz3 'screw hole' nicely biggrin.gif haha ..and the built quality is quite good. The problem is , the tz3 plastic tripod mount is on the far left edge of the camera, not at the center. Thus you got to adjust the mini tripod so that it won't fall over.

With an empty 2 gig card, i managed to record a 1 hour 07 minutes and 37 seconds QVGA video. I switched to VGA and it showed me 22 minutes and 45 seconds.
So I have tried taking 1 qvga video and the battery depleted 2 out of 3 bars in the end. Took around 40 minutes to tranfer that nearly 2 gig .mov file using the supplied data cable. (at least that's what windows says about the remaining time..)

What would you have done to get sharper shots, handheld without tripod using the TZ3 or other lumix models?

U can try using OIS mode 1, shutter speed 1/4, ISO 800/ any high ISO. This can cause noise.. but its better than blurry picture.

Yes, Speed Priority and higher ISO will solve the blur pictures but you can also slightly under-exposed the pictures and correct the brightness after downloaded to your PC.

Have anyone try out the RAW format??

the pics seems really good but taken up too much memory space.

Anywhere, what is the current SD-2Gb and SDHC-4Gb card cost (cheapest)?

I was scratching head looking over these 2 models (Powershot S5 IS vs Lumix FZ18) but now mostly decided FZ18... now my only problem... how da heck to get this model in Kota Kinabalu Sabah! cos I phoned to 4 quite large camera shops here and they say.. "oh we do not carry Panasonic models here" doh.gif walao ehhhh One of the shop even says "oh these are electrical & electronic items, u will need to get them from electrical shop" blink.gif doh.gif

Finally called in to Local Pana distro which also says... please call another 2 shops, lucky they have the contact number... if not back to searching from square 1... ish...

Found it selling in one of the shop here but only available in around 2 weeks time! Haih... wait again... RM1599 (not sure comes with what still..) Haven't visit them since I gave them my number to call back.. assuming he remembers and put my contacts in safe place...haiya if I'm in KL sure go buy edi... mad.gif

btw, still having some doubts here on Powershot S5 IS i love the video record but I guess if wan get movie, might as well get a camcorder or something. Yeah I agree if only Pana comes out with a quieter zoom then they will be able to have zooming video mode.. it boils down my decision to FZ18 cos I wan to go further into photography from my previous pns coolpix 4100 (almost 3 years edi)

And DSLR is just way out of my budget cos if I really wan to into DSLR, i really think I seriously need to consider the lenses
Pentak K100D Super - not much lenses but kitlens are better than 350D kitlens
Canon EOS 350D - kit lens not as good as Pentax <--- if DSLR I'm leaning to this cos will be playing with lens (wider lens options)

So all in all I think I'll be aiming for this FZ18 for now cos I dun have budget to play with these DSLR yet. Plus dun really like changing lens cos takes time and u will miss some critical shots! lolx. For DSLR serious user, I think they will prob get middle or high end DSLR with one lens ready with another entry level DSLR of another lens or... with a prosumer in their hand. Well I'm not that pro yet so best decision is still with prosumer at the moment. When I find my barrier already, then will keep my $$ and go for DSLR in the future maybe...

Besides if get FZ50, might as well get the DSLR...

It all boils down to this FZ18 all-in-1 and I hope I can join u all soon.. wish me luck and hope I dun get anymore headaches and change my mind eyeing for DSLR again.. huhu

Edit : btw, if anyone knows how I can get this FZ18 in KK, Sabah, do let me know and one other thing is I will pay with Credit Card... thx

Silver color (prefer black but you take what you can get!) for RM 1610 in Harvey Norman. Comes with 2gb card, fragile but useful tripod, camera bag, free umbrella and extended 2 year warranty. It's so popular until it's sold out everywhere... rclxub.gif

Hi everyone.

Just went to Bintang Maju at Low Yat 1st floor and found that they carry a black Fz18 costing Rm 1688.00 biggrin.gif

Seems like Fz18 is coming in stock once again rclxms.gif

Well, price might be a little high. maybe due to limited stock

Anywhere, I've just bought another 2Gb SD card cost only RM59.00. Also tried out the SD Ultra II but just a little faster with extra Rm40.00. Not worth lah.

Worst thing is that I still looking for a 46mm uv filter. vmad.gif

Normally slow shutter shots u'll need tripod unless u have super steady hand..if not ur shots gonna be blurry.

The slower the shutter means more light going to reach your lens thus making it bright.
U can try ask others more on this as im also a beginner icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi all Lumix fans here, how do u guys feel the advantage of Fz18 over Fz8??Apart from the zoom and wide lens,do u guys feel they are more or less the same?Im deciding to grab Fz8 instead of Fz18 but the pricing for Fz8 isn't that cheap around sungei wang(except online sales)...and for Fz18,I have a news that new stock will be reach within 1 months times from Japan,so to anyone who wish to own Fz18,u guys can wait for around 1 month time..and start to hunt again

Just bought FZ18 yesterday evening from Foto Edar, Sg Wang. They only had the black colour. Most other places notably Boeing, Tarita out of stock.
Anyway my bundle came to 1600 for:
Camera
2GB Panasonic SD
Case
Extra Panasonic battery
some cheapo uv filter to use as lens protector

1570 without the filter
1430 without the battery & filter

I bought my black FZ18 in Singapore a week ago. RM1658 after conversion. Package includes: camera, 2GB card, case, extra 1 original Panasonic battery, HOYA UV protector lens, screen protector. Many places here also out of stock.

I am new in photography. The photos from FZ18 impresses me. With 18x Zoom ability (more than 100x optical+digital zoom, 3MP), i think it will serve me well when i go to concert next time. smile.gif In this moment, I use it as normal camera, switch it to P mode most of the time. The manual has been printed out and i need to digest it. I think it is worth for money as it is even cheaper than some of the digicam.

I think i will start to learn how to take pro type of photos.

Happy capturing. smile.gif

I searched around and did not like that original blue panasonic casing, retail around RM60. Key Color shop at Midvalley has this ori lumix casing if that's what you are after.

So I went to tearproof, a camping and outdoor bags shop. I bought this Eagle Creek one. Been using this for a few months and I do like it so far. Rm40+ if not mistaken. Comes with a waist strap that you can unclip if you just want to hook it to your belt. My TZ3 and 1 battery case fits ngam ngam into this pouch.

Added on January 22, 2008, 12:23 amOn another note, the TZ3 again proves that it's not so good when dealing with indoor lighting. Had my grandma's birthday party today in a restaurant. The moment I stepped into the restaurant, I knew I was gonna have alot of trouble. The lighting was mix of dim yellow and white.

Tried +2EV without flash, spot, AF mode 9 boxes (haha can't remember the proper term),EC +- 1. Result was accurate colors, but abit of motion from the persons causes blurring. Pics were not sharp.

Tried -2EV with flash, spot , AF mode 9 boxes, EC +- 1. Result was duller colors, abit more noise. Again, pics were not sharp.

Overall, pics were not sharp, visible loss of detail and some blurring even when the person was just moving a tiny bit. I had tried my best to keep my hands still.

Sometimes in group photos, kids will like to move around and wah la.. u got everyone perfect but the kids face and arms blurring. Didn't think of using flex.gif Sports mode for a Family photo, but maybe next time i might consider it.

Next thing I learned, people tend to expect the flash to occur each time a photo is taken. I tried beforehand in the restaurant and found the non flash +2ev was better than the flash. So during the group photo, I passed the camera to another person to take the photos. Immediate confusion. Everyone though no pic was taken, when there were already 6 shots because of the burst shooting. So no choice I had to turn on the flash and adjust EV just to keep everyone happy.

rclxub.gif . Maybe must really carry 2 cameras around. 1 for outdoor and bright lights, another for indoor and low lights. Haih.. sweat.gif

Anyone Saw this adapter? I would be interested to buy this if available here. Looks useful as you can use filters on the tz3 or maybe other lumix with the diameter barrel?.

I am looking for an OEM battery for FZ18. I had asked around the shops in Melaka and the price is not much different from the original battery. Ori RM180, OEM RM150.

I had also tried to look in Lelong and eBay but yield nothing.

Thanks in advance.

I think your question is not detailed enough. You want the settings to take what kinda photograph? The person darker means u got the sun shining behind? or at a dim lighted pub? or overall picture is dim?

Hi dav668,
Thanks for your info. That is why I was wondering how come OEM price and ori is not much different. A friend of mine who uses EOS400 got his OEM battery at RM50 at lelong. Since DSLR OEM battery can get for such low price then logically prosumer battery should be cheaper also right?

On the top click My "Controls"
On the left click Edit "Signature"

Put whatever link you want to show here and it will be "under ur reply slot"

Pics on the thread, you need to use an external link. Open account on photobucket , upload your pics there. Then copy and past your link in the [IMG] button when you want to reply.

Those forum prices of the TZ won't give you the mem card, screen protector, pouch or other freebies. Probably just the camera alone and nothing else. But still I doubt you can find RM11XX price at retail shops for the TZ3, I tried before also before I bought mine.

So fast they come out with TZ4/5. Would have been better if they waited for new technology like cmos sensor or newtype battery? new body shell construction? then only come out with a new TZ. At least correct the damn low light disadvantage of this cam.

forum.. rm1160. nothing else but the tz3 camera. Their office just 1 floor below my fitness center, so it was convenient to pick up. That was last year 5 months ago.

mem card 2 gig Kingston I bought from pc fair I think in the RM80 range, wonpro power socket adapter RM11, carrying case like I mentioned earlier rm40+. mini tripod RM10 from Carrefour. Using another pouch I already had to keep the extra stuff like av cable, usb cable, charger, cloth.

So wherever I go with the camera away from home, i bring 2 small pouches. ahaha. blush.gif. But of course I leave the extra stuff pouch at the place I am staying and just go out with the carrying case lar.

fz20 user reporting in smile.gif

beginner so there are much for me to learn. took it with me to 4 months backpacking in europe.

some photos here.
http://chiakc-eujournal.blogspot.com/

for fz20 the best advantage i must say is the f2.8 aperture. gives you more flexibility to get the 'right' exposure under low light without the support.

i am not fx33 user. checked dpreview, since fx33 no manual focus, so you can help yourself with ttl only.

normally, we
decide what we what to take, look at the screen, press shutter button half way to focus(assuming u are AF mode) and shot.

if it turns out out-focus/not what u want, eg you want to put your centre-of-interest (say a girl as model) upside not dead right at the center of a photo and u always end up with blur face...

1 try to position the centre-of-interest of your photo to center 1st, half press shutter to focus, recompose your photo and shot. this is a way to cheat AF camera.

2 try different focusing mode if available. one point, multi point, longitudinal, horizontal etc.

3 try a few more time. same setting but a few tries may give u different result.

or

4 use small aperture. gives u wider depth of field, so your model will appear sharp also. not the best way to do.

the best

get yourself a manual focus camera smile.gif

hope it helps

that's quite cheap!
i'm looking for ultra-compact and seriously i had a hard time deciding between fx33 and ricoh R7. tried out fx33 before, auto focus is fast, fps is super fast and i can do so many fun things with the 60s max. shutter exposure, too bad the sensor still is 1/2.5in.. haven't try out ricoh though

i'll wait till fx35/36 comes out

Why not wait for the very latest model the DMC-FX500

user posted image
With the DMC-FX500(FX520), auto focus and exposure can be set at the desired part of the frame by simply touching the subject at that part to activate the AF/AE. This eliminates the need to make adjustments after pressing the shutter halfway, allowing you to set the desired composition and appropriate exposure easily and accurately. This is also helpful when you would like to designate the subject out of other objects in the frame, to set best appropriate focus and exposure right on it.

AF/AE tracking is new with the DMC-FX500(FX520). Once the AF/AE subject is selected by touch control, it continues to track the subject even if it moves. This is especially helpful for catching active children or pets. It also conveniently tracks the subject when the person taking the photo is riding on a moving object. And it minimizes the shutter time lag for spur-of-the-moment shots.

Guys....
question for those TZ3 users...

- How does the battery performance so far? do you ever need to use the xtra battery package?
- roughly how long does a fully charge battery last you guys (in terms of # of picture taken)
- Does the performance of the battery decreases as time pass by meaning after a few month the number of pictures taken reduce tremendously.
- Easy to claim for warranty/ service?

i'm seriously considering to get this camera due to the lens and the zooming and been comparing this to the Sony H3 and Canon SX100

is it true that TZ3 is not very good in low light condition but it got 60 sec in Starry mode woh?
in my mind was thinking to get a portable & yet powerful camera such as this TZ3, LZ7 or maybe Ricoh R6 / R7?
which one you guys think is the best bet for night & low light shot? thanks

Harvey Norman is a shop like those SENQ, u can buy it by easy payment scheme with 0% with the most 12 months. But SENQ can b 24 months 0% installment, sometimes 36 months, c lor if u want to own it n not much cash on hand , 0%installment is a gd plan.

care to explain why both Panasonic TZ3 (28-280mm) & Sony H3 (38-380mm) are 10x optical zoom but there's different in focal length? is that mean TZ3 can shoot a wider but shorter scene & H3 shoot less wider but longer scene? thanks

Hello everyone. I have a FX100 and feel that 1 recharge battery is not enough. So decided to buy 1 or 2 spare recharge battery (CGA-S005E).

What I found out was the battery price is ranging from RM99 (PC fair) to RM150-180 at Lowyat plaza.

Can I know if anyone here know the real market/ retail price for this?
Thanks for advance =]

the TZ3 = RM1399 fixed plus some goodies.. and the TZ15 (after a few price haggle) i got it at RM1299 plus ome xtra goodies.. smile.gif)

after this i need to sit quitely in the corner and play with my TZ15.. wink.gif icon_question.gif

Just bought 2 units of TZ15 Silver in Sg Wang for 2500. 1 bundled with 4gb and the other 2gb. Also comes with screen protector and casing. Using CC. Scouted for 2 hours in Lowyat and Sg Wang. This is the best I managed to get.

FX500 model was available during the Panasonic Conference + exhibition in Osaka.
Yodobashi and best denki in japan have not displayed FX500 up to April, not sure about this month.
south east asia region only comes with FX520.

panasonic LUMIX is one of a good cameras right now thanks to its LEICA lens and iA mode (aka intelligent Auto mode). unlike other brands, LUMIX can automatically detect whatever situation you are shooting, from macro mode, portrait, scenery, party, nightview..etc. this is the advantages of iA mode.

other brands only can support face detection and motion detection. Lumix supports all. smile.gif

Before PC fair, the max price was only RM1200 selling at Sungei Wang plaza, there are even other shops selling at even lower but most where juz abit lesser. Anyway i was shock why pc fair sold it for so expensive.

Actually there is 1 shop selling RM1050 for tz15 during pc fair in KL including a 2gb SD card and a panasonic towel, and the booth name is MyKamera.com. I was not able 2 get it tat time coz i dun hav enuf cash and my hands were full tat time where 1 side of my hand is with a printer and the other is with a LCD monitor, and imagine those pack of ppl there...gosh. I went back the nex day, it were all sold out. I was so regret tat i did not get it tat time.

Yea...tats y im still waiting, but i need to get it soon before end of this month coz im goin to UK. So im abit desperate to get it. Now i cant even find a shop selling at RM1050, damn stupid coz did not get it tat time. I went back the nex day n paid a deposit and the guy gave me those freebies such as the 2GB, a towel n a tripod and he told me the stock might reach on thurs. After thurs he told me need to wait till Mid of May oni the stock will arrive...gosh. I ended up taking back my deposit coz i was thinking mayb till tat time it might b even cheaper.

Im willing to pay RM1100 now to get the camera actualy and tats my max budget. Its so hot selling man tis camera.

all SD memory card with SDHC uses class 6 already. It is implemented for higher capacity cards eg 4GB or higher. f you want faster read / write speed and durability (extreme temperature), you want to consider Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III or IV. Got more $$$ to throw, then the Ducati version. I personally feel for Panny TZ15, no need to go so high first, unless you want to future use it for DSLR. Then can exchange card lor..

how much you bought your TZ15 and where? What pkg content u got?

tq

The len filter is juz a sticket protector in front of the len. I hv attached a picture for your easy reference.

rclxms.gif You definitely got a good buy than me. But do check the warranty. Although you paid RM50 less than me, pls check that the warranty is 2 years and is from Panasonic Malaysia. This is what I got for my buy.

Btw, i have capture a few images and it is way better than my other digicam Sony (W1 - old model & now sakit tenat oledi rclxub.gif & Olympus (770SW. thot that all weather / water proof good but turn out to be my very bad experience! very small len + sensor make the PQ terrible). This tz15 camera is more for my wifey and kids.

I'm also planing to go for my 1st DLSR Canon 450D. Hope it'll come true. Keeping fingers crossed.

Cheers!

usually the smart financial gurus will advise you to SAVE your money first. Reason is:

1. you wasted RM100 (card RM1350 vs cash RM1250) from paying installment, which is not smart spending. You are being too impulsive! RM100 can buy you many other things.
2. the price of TZ15 will come down in future (6 months from now). By then, you can get a cheaper price or a newer model.
3. You save the instalment $$$ in bank and earn interest instead.

My friend, economy is not good and we as consumer need to be smarter using our hard earned money.

Anyway, the choice is yours to make. It's your call. My opinion is that RM1350 is on the high side even if pay by card.

As a side note, I don't need the mini tripod cos it's useless. believe me, you don't really use it at all.

Cheers & Good luck.

why not stay with a more reputable and reliable brand like Panasonic (too expensive) or Sandisk (No 1 memory card maker in the world). Apacer may be cheaper like Tosh & kingston, but my opinion is that the pictures we are taking are priceless. I'd rather stay with Sandisk cards since it also come with lifetime warranty and there is also a photo recovery software with its higher range cards. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

personally, i have not tried Apacer but any SDHC brand card should or will work on TZ15.

depend on whether you rec in HD or SD, also you brand of mem card. some cards take some space for their fw, so the actual rec time is lesser than what is stated.

I don't think this price is special for me since I was also given the guide by komander67 (credit to you sir!). Maybe with your bargaining skill, you can even get cheaper than us. G'luck!

On the crystal lens filter protector, it really depend on you. I kena poisoned caused i kinda of worry that my kids itchy hand want to touch the len. you know la..kids want to explore mah...also, it is also to prevent mildew, dust, fungus etc from getting into the lens. some peace of mind la... cos you never know what'll happen.

Julia, the sales lady told me that a guy who bought this cam a day earlier than me actually bringing it into the jungle for a exploration trip. hence he need to protect the len from moisture. (showed me the receipt too. lagi poison bcos got bukti cukup!) aiya, i thots for protection what is RM100 since we also bought it at a reasonable price. our frens at dslr group also buy filter to protect their lenses mah. so, same principle apply here lor.

anyway, g'luck to you! I enjoyed snapping with this camera cos no need to think. Strange...since i also interested in canon 450d as it needs some creative thinking in future. hmm.gif

i went to tarita sg wang and managed to get the TZ15 for RM1245 (had to pay cash).
i couldn't push it any lower even though i tekan like crazy. the fella's face also fed up already....

but i got the body + screen protector + 4GB toshiba memory stick + lumix soft case
camera comes with 2 year warranty by panasonic malaysia.

did i get too bad a deal?

i will only know whether the camera itself is good once i let my wife open it... it's her birthday present and her birthday isn't till this weekend... heheh....

Added on May 22, 2008, 6:11 pmwait... i'm quite confused... the panasonic package says lumix soft case. but when i refer to the price tag, it says there hard case. so which did i get? the soft or the hard?

my case is the blue coloured one with black flap. it certainly doesn't feel like a soft case if you ask me...

and i got the toshiba memory stick instead of the sandisk because the toshiba is made is japan whereas the sandisk is made in china... did i make the right decision?

it's considered a hard case even though the packaging said it's soft. checked this with a panasonic retailer i.e. Best Denki Sogo.

don't worry, no right or wrong in choosing which card brand since it is a matter of personal preference. So, don't worry if you choose toshiba - made in japan. yes, sandisk is made in china but it also has lifetime warranty.

Happy Snapping during your wife's Birthday!

cheers!

I finally got my TZ5....quite nice taking picture with it. But i usually use the normal mode rather then the IA mode coz normal mode gives u more function to use and choose.

Regardless about the memory card, it really doesn't matter which brand u take...as long as u feel its branded then its good enough and its under class 6.

Actually not all SDHC is under 'class 6', there are also 'class 2' SDHC, so make sure you check 1st. 'Class 6' will have a better read and write speed compare to the lower class. So when taking pictures, if u c a slower loading when you are on you camera once you take a picture n proceed to take another picture...even when viewing pictures there a slight difference.

Quoted from 'wikipedia' (credit to wikipedia).
SDHC cards have SD Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class Ratings specify the following minimum write speeds based on "the best fragmented state where no memory unit is occupied"

* Class 2: 2 MB/s
* Class 4: 4 MB/s
* Class 6: 6 MB/s

Hope it help you lostasylum.

Added on May 27, 2008, 4:22 pmAnyway...i got myself a UV crystal lens protection filter for my TZ15. Exactly the same as lordwood's.

Hi , i would like to view some indoor/ low-light condition photos taken with TZ-15 .. Any generous TZ-15 owner would contribute that ?

Previously , i target on Ixus 860i and fuji f100fd , but after some recent reading , i found out that Tz-15 might be a more a apporiate to me .. Now , i throw out ixus 860i in my list .. Jst left between f100fd and Tz-15..

The good things about tz-15 :-
-10x optical zoom
-Mega O.I.S(don know how good it is compare with others "normal " IS)
-great outdoor photos ( colour are more sharper than the other 2 model) #this is based on the dpreview sample photos , i'm not sure whether its been further processing or not
- iA ( this is good to those ppl that jst take out camera and shoot, basically , this wat we do- Point and Shoot )

Fuji f100fd :-
- super CCD ( greater control of the noises at high ISO )
- wat's else ...

Notes: don shoots me for my above comment , this is all about sharing views from wat i read so far ...

Just bought fx36 last week. It can do the bokeh effect.

Very happy with the camera as it's a very outstanding point and shot camera.

Only ranting is the data cable is not using std cable. If they use mini USB it would be very convinicence.

Errr 10x ? do we really need that kind of zoom range ? I thought 3-4x would be enough. Is the stabilisation effective for that kind of range ?

Right now , i also not sure wat are the main function that i'm looking for .. But things like wide angle-28mm, good IS , red eye reduction are a Must ... Maybe should said at this way , a camera that can last long and fits on most of occasion..

any FX-520 users around?
just want to know how much memory does the camera support?
4gb should be no problem, just ask if its support up to 8gb-16gb?
went to LYP today, to try out, seems sleek too
the shop offer RM1250, for standard accs, with no memory card include, is that a nice deal?

I think it is very affordable (wallet less pain) at the moment especially after TZ15 launch.

I am a user of TZ5 (Malaysia release as TZ15)

I am using the japanese model. Bought in Japan.

Just upgrade the firmware to 1.2. But this camera is preset in japanese mode. hence only Japnese OSD. I try to reset it to english but failed. Anyone have any workaround on this?

Would like to ask the pros here,

Which one would be a better choice, TZ15 or FX-520?

And which one would perform better in video-taking? Or are there any other models of compact camera to be recommended for video-taking?

TQ.

just want to confirm, if I take picture with iA mode @ 4:3, is it the photo already captured in 25mm mode?

I do not think that you can actually choose between wide angle and not wide angle. As in, every shot u take is wide angle, no?

I didn't post any pictures because I haven't got a memory card because 'some people' didn't want to sell me their 4gb toshiba card and also cos I haven't got a pouch where 'some people' duwan to help me get it. whistling.gif

I'm thinking of starting a new thread for FX 520 users! Maybe can post some tips on shooting photos with a compact with capabilities of the FX 520.
