so the thing i should give is hamster food(prestige) and dog food? can i use delicate or habitrail hamster food coz in melaka hard to find prestige. also can i use cheap dog food or expensive one? currently using ALPO. hmmm... i havent feed any mealworm to them yet coz i just reached home. will find the mealies tomorrow if needed. or is dogfood, vege, and hamster food enough?

dog food memang got protein, hun, just that gerbils don't like them ... as you said , they are seed eater.

but then most of the reason is that the mother lack of nutrition to support the pups,
the nutrition she have jus sufficient to support her own so she abandon the pups, that's is wat i think.
there got few other reason, but mainly u need to check on the gerbils itself.

yaya, they do eat mealworms, but it depends on the gerbils characteristic, some of them eat, some of them not.
for mine one, some of them eat some of them not, and special is where my yuki and kioko like mealworms a lot, sometime when i give them small cricket, they sapu also...

for protein right, u can feed via mealworms, dog/cat kibbles or even animal milk powder.
for mealworm, when u give, eventually the gerbils become big, but then more likely become fat compare to have more protein
as tikusniaga said, mealworms have more protein compare to fat, is true on statically, but that is the larva itself, havent count in the immune and digest system of the gerbils, which that nezu said that mealworms have more to fat
i previouly not believe, so i try on my own, the gerbils do become bigger, but then not strong, u can feel the fat, so later i reduce the mealworms already, now ok already, if not, obesity.
dog/cat kibble can give also, but same thing, depends on the gerbils characteristic, gerbils mainly on grain, so sometimes a lot of them dun like dog/cat kibble, jus like mine, all dun like.
for the animal milk powder, i havent try it b4, but then due to research, it can be given, and mostly the animal will accept, since is made for animal. and from there, it can gain more compare to get from grains or larva.

now my gerbils look better. my mum dont know how to take care. she buy the cheap hamster food. just throw in every 1 or 2 days.
now i am taking over the gerbil and bringing it back with me.

i now feed the gerbil with some ALPO dogfood which is kinda good brand. and give some vege, dunno wats the vege called coz i dunno bout vegies. give habitrail hamster food coz i cant get others. haha... but one thing i very pissed with my stupid gerbils is....

i get them a bowl to put the food in it. but that 2 stupid fellow, put all the bedding inside and cover the food... ish bodoh betul! the bowl is quite high somemore, around 5-6cm tall but yet they go throw all the bedding inside. how to avoid such things?

Ya la... it is their wild instinct la... where got bowl in the wild la.... Next u want them use spoon??? Ok, ok joke onli no angry ha...

Anyway, I do not use bowl. Just tabur onli... some of the food got buried..... same with other rodent.....

Just tabur will cr8 waste wert... Coz owner tend to think "owh, the food has finish", then mai add food again. ut actually buried under bedding. Somemore, those sisa2 gerbils usually wont eat 1; force them to eat the sisa2. lolz

ya i dont want it to go to waste thats why i get the bowl. but wat to do. they so stupid. =.=

Can give dog food, just don't give them the food you find in Supermarkets like Pedigree or such. Orijen da best

all my gerbils crazy with kibbles... get a good brand. alpo not good u can get a small pack of royal canine kibbles. dog or cat also can. prestige is the only good mix i found. others are more like junk. u can mix 1/4 bag of britter bunny with 1 prestige, which will give u good gerbils canot get in mcca? go online pet shack u will get it.

Yearp. I give my gerbils expensive cat food.

i wanna look for dogfood or catfood suitable for mice and also gerbil. haha... buy one brand can de. dont want get two different brand. haha

got dog kibbles, dun get alpo, those alpo or pedigree which sell in supremarket one ar, and is made from thailand ar,
not good for gerbils, coz due to dog if they keep on eating, will get rock liver, sort of.
get a better brand for dog/ cat kibbles.

andfor the food be be burried under the bedding, is usual, and is normal.
if u see a gerbils didnt use bedding can cover the food or anything, that is abnormal...
dun worry about that, some times u jus dig out the bedding and check whether they still got food or not,
if not then jus put again the food.

just got 2 female gerbils from my friend.
he doesnt have time for them anymore so i bought the gerbils.
the colour are red eyed white and Argente cream.
named them Luna and Lola.
need to buy some additional accessories for them..

dig the tank? thats weird... how can tank be digged? dig the bedding u mean? haha... well, u can throw in some cardboards for them to bite and chew. and make sure u dont put any plastic inside. they will bite. even coconut tempurung they bite most of it de. haha... their teeth is tremendously sharp and strong

after they dig the bedding.. they are digging the tank.scratching the bottom of then tank.maybe they feel stress coz and doesnt settle down yet with new surrounding and new owner.

right now i'm studying the gene table of gerbil genetics.
interested in the gerbil different colours.
