Hi to all the people who have experienced traveling to Japan, I want to ask a few questions...:
1. For a first timer going to Japan, is it advisable to go by myself as in not part of a tour? I'd love to have freedom in visiting places but are there places where you can only visit when you're a part of the tour? Since I can probably only afford one trip to Japan in my life I want to make the most of it, I want to see everything that makes Japan well... Japan : sakura flowers, ryokans and onsen, temples, Mt. Fuji, Akiba, Harajuku and especially the Ghibli Museum. Plan to visit next year during spring. 2. Is it not advisable to travel to a few areas? Because I want to visit Tokyo and Kyoto or Osaka and I heard it's very costly. 3. How early should I start booking tickets? Should I book accomodation rooms before leaving Msia or can I do it on the spot in Japan (I'm aware sakura viewing season is peak season)? 4. How much money minimum should I have in order to travel to Japan (everything from flight expenses to accomodation and food)? I'm trying to set a target to reach. Thanks in advance! >< |

Thanks in advance! >< 2.with proper planning, it's not impossible to do it.can always take a night bus to kyoto from tokyo or if u're rich, shinkansen 3.book your accommodation before going. 4.a very bare minimum would be Rm8000(assuming tix is rm2500-3000) |

Thanks in advance! >< 1. mount fuji is summer only. if not you could die. going alone is no advisable for first timers, you can sesat. but sesat is ok, travelers shouldn't be afraid of getting sesat. I'm planning to go again in spring next year, for punkspring and sakura 2. if you wanna go some other places beside tokyo you might need more time. more time means more money. but once in osaka you can go to kyoto and kobe easily. night bus is around RM100. 4. i'd say better have RM10000 ready. Flight tix is RM2500 plus minus. around RM4500 in cash and remaining in credit card. better use credit card for accommodation and transportation (bus/domestic flight) |

Ah I don't intend to hike the mountain, just to go see it. I don't think I'd have enough time to spare, at most maybe a week?
I was thinking as a first timer it would be better to go tour yes, but there might be places I want to go to that tours might not cover (like the Ghibli museum and Harajuku and Akiba shopping maybe?). How long does it take to travel between Tokyo and Osaka or Kyoto? |

there's a viewing point somewhere. never tried that place, maybe can try later.
if you go with tour, you can always sneak out of the tour. go other places by yourself. better go on your own lah, find someone that can take you around. clemong can do that tokyo - osaka night bus is like 10 hours (3-4 times toilet breaks), 3-4 hours by bullet train, 12 hours by normal train. |

Hello, newbie here. I just want to ask something. I'm planning to go to Kyoto this October to learn Japanese there. There are quite a few intensive course that I'm interested in there. Sure I could learn Japanese here but my friend told me the experience will do me much good. My question is, is there any good halal restaurant there? Probably my only problem there is gonna be food.
And one more thing, do yo have to be free hair to enter the amusement park there? I went once before last year to LaQua next to Tokyo Dome City and the person there told me that I cannot wear 'tudung' to go in. But they allow it at Disenyland though. So does that mean there are certain amusement park with dress code and there are others that do not? |

Even the big Disneyland have no problem, I've seen many Malaysians with tudung there lots of time. Where exactly are you going in Kyoto & how long? Maybe then we can know of the halal shop location. |

Ermm, I'll be staying there for 3 months probably. From October til December but I'm planning to go back to Malaysia in the first week of January. I want to see how Japanese celebrate the new year
supernothing, you're welcome to join me if you want. Is fast-food considered halal there? Cause I don't think we can really eat chicken or beef there, other than seafood. The last time I went I only survive with takoyaki, sushi, maggi (that I brought) and salmon onigiri. Where exactly in Kyoto? Ermm I'm still looking for a place, but the school is around the Shiju station subway so I'll probably try to find a place near there. I'm also considering to buy a second hand bicycle, to save on subway fare. A dorm or shared room is quite ok I guess, around 4 people per room. If too many then probably would be uncomfortable. I'm open to any suggestions. Oh duringthe time that I went to LaQua, the woman who sold me the ticket said something about for something measures, in case my tudung got stuck during the ride or something. Ooo firedauz, are you in tokyo? I'm planning to drop by during weekends there by night bus (save money), maybe you could show me around? This post has been edited by amylia: Apr 30 2008, 12:02 PM |
