Cutthroat Island (1995) BD

PQ Good
AQ Excellent. Impressive really

What can I say about this movie that had NOT been said?

Well let's start with the bad

1) Geena Davis as a lady Pirate!? What were Carolco Bosses thinking (Director Rene Harlin was married to Geena, so I know what he was THINKING!! tongue.gif)

2) Frank Langella is a KAYU bad pirate *Sigh*

3) This movie was SO expensive (they built two life size pirate ships for the movie and the cost was ONLY surpassed by Pirates of the Caribbean) that when it TANKED at the box office, it brought down it's production company Carolco, which also produced hits like Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

The Good

1) Matthew Modine did a GREAT damsel in distress tongue.gif

2) The storyline is actually a bit better then the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean!

3) So many things about this movie were copied by the writers of the Pirates of the Caribbean (down to the monkey, SERIOUS)!!

So if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and is in the mood for a pirate movie, give this a swill!!

Okay, let the criticism come!! smile.gif

Dodgeball - An alright comedy. But I have never seen anyone look as bored as vince vaughn is in this movie. Everyone else is having so much fun and he's wallowing in self-pity.

Transformers 2 - Watched this piece of shit halfway before turning it off. Probably will watch the remaining half later with my brother who is watching it right now. Shit story, shit characters, shit bots, shit music, shit dialogue. I'm very hard pressed to find anything that isnt shit in this.

A Perfect getaway, boring, story line is not good enough and the action scene was too little

The Princess Bride (1987)

What a BLAST!

I never saw this in the cinema.

I first saw this on TV and had since bought it's DVD, which was great.

And now, it is available on BD and what a glorious BD it is!!

Please note that this is a 1987 movie and the transfer is great.

There are a few (VERY few) scene where the characters looked a little soft (after the "baddies" finished climbing the Cliff of Insanity) but overall the transfer is great.

No scratches or dust specks. There are grain, but that only adds to the film like quality of the movie.

I've read the book after I got the DVD (couple of years ago) and I can tell you that it is a very FAITHFUL adaption of the said book.

Each and everyone of the actors did a FANTASTIC job and direction from the director (the great Rob Reiner) and dialogue are SHARP!

I highly recommend this movie to lovers of Adventure, Romance and Comedy!

Oh just go get it!! tongue.gif

Transformers 2 :Revenge of the Fallen..
DVDRip quality..

the movie is way too long, dragged.. add too many unnecessary scene like the parents comedy.. overall, Im not satisfied with this movie, Id say this movie scores 3 0ut of 5 .

IMO, the first movie is better than this one

Just rewatched Kill Bill volume 1.
I remember watching this show like so many years back. Just had to watch it again smile.gif
Awesome story line. Pretty violent. But blood is a tad bit exaggerated, but nonetheless, it makes it pretty violent.

Lucy Liu in her younger days. Oh my gawd. So pretty! But she died sad.gif With her top part of her head kinda ... gone.. sad.gif

It's deliberate. Vol. 1 and 2, both damn fine movies.

GI Joe - This was supposed to suck! Everyone I trust who has seen it says its worse than Transformers 2! The trailers looked did the opposite of whetting my appetite! I really wanted this to suck so bad so that I could proclaim to my friends who liked it "how can you call this turd a good movie?!". Oh boy. I enjoyed it. It's not miles better than Transformers 2. It's immeasurably better. It gave me a slight Spy Kids vibe, a good sense of fun and some obviously bad and cheesy CGI (which I think was deliberate). You miss nothing by not watching it, but it's harmless fun.

Plus that Rachel Nichols girl is hot! So that's another reason to see this instead of TF2.

Added on October 5, 2009, 2:07 pmSuperman Returns (2006)

Perplexing!!

I find myself perplexed. I like this movie alot and supposedly, alot of people do not.

Firstly, many people had stated that the movie video transfer is NOT up to par, but it is. I've watched this in the cinema and this BD surpasses that. There are some scenes where Superman looks "fake" but that is because in those scenes he is CGIed (or I perceives him as CGIed, it look like that in the cinema) !!

I think that Bryan Singer actually put a lot of effort into making this movie unique and I'm doubly perplex why lover of comics hate this movie as well, seeing how much homage is paid to the media (eg when Superman gently put down Kitty's car, that is the cover to the first Action Comic Superman appeared in). He also anchored the movie as much as he could into the real world (when Superman first attempted to save the plane Lois was on, he tried to grab on the fuselage of the plane but it broke off because it could not take the stress)

I like this movie and am bump that Bryan Singer would not get to direct Brandon Routh in another Superman movie *Sigh*

I think it's intentional. Like Speed Racer, the cartoonish visuals make it work. Not that I'm implying GI Joe is as good as Speed racer. It's mindless fluff, enjoyable while it lasts and forgettable thereafter.

I think it's an alright movie. But superman and his lore have never been one of my favourites anyway. Neither is Bryan Singer.

It's definitely not intentional. Speed Racer is, but G.I Joe isn't. You could see that they wanted to make it good but failed. And even if they "intentional" made it look cheesy, it turned out to be lame.

Superman Returns is a great movie, I totally agree.
