My recent birthday.....kids bought Yomeishu,........every year....cny, birthday, father day......repeat red wine, Essence of Chicken, Yomeishu, Vitamin C, Sangobion ( I often lack of Iron), fish oil ......

My question is what type of Supplements most uncle level K/ here take ?

Too many supplement will probably make your body forget how to extract it from food you eat or probably your body have excess to certain vitamin or minerals which can be bad. smile.gif

When take supplement, it adds more vit c into the body. This serves as an extra dose of vit c.

Zinc picolinate. Zinc good for men (iykyk), picolinate type bc it has the best absorption rate

I take vit D too

Besides those I try not to take more. Better to get nutrients from your food

The part that body forget how to extract or absorb mineral is more like my imaginative theory laugh.gif

I always believe that when you use external thing to interfere with your body, then probably you interrupt with your body biology. Like when you take medication for high bllod pressure. The doctor will tell you to take once a day but no one ever monitor whether your current pressure requires you to take one or not. It just become routine and you give no time for your body to cure itself. Most modern medication use external stimulation concept without trying to cure root cause. smile.gif This is slightly off topic I guess.

Well, certain vitamin or mineral in excess to body can be bad. How much your body absorb certain mineral whether enough or not depends on the food source. I also take multivitamin but not strictly follow instruction like 1 table each morning whatever. I found a good article to read.

Referring to your high blood pressure story, I thought about that too. Maybe during fever, we shouldn't take panadol? I'm not medic expert, but the reason we take paracetamol is to reduce the temperature, but isn't high temperature also means the body is fighting the illness? I also keliru.

I also got vitamin tablet, I don't take it everyday despite it is labelled 1 tablet each day. My mom don't want to listen though, she's like.. very scared, if one day didn't take, she's scared her body will go zero in vitamins and will be bad for the body.

Like in flu cases, actually there is no medication for it. the medication given is just like Panadol, make you feel better such as reduce mucus in respiratory tract, etc. It is your body ability to produce antibody that fight the virus. The vaccine concept is the same. the vaccine is just stimulating your body to produce antibody to particular an alike virus.

Antibiotic is different story. It help you fight bacteria and prescribed to you if doctors think that your body is weak to fight bacteria.

Myself only Kordel's Vit C, 1 tea spoon "Pau Sheng" powder form and regular sleep hour & timing

Twice a week, bentong ginger powder with hot water before bed

Body never forgets lah manusia mudah lupa.

VitC not added or absorbed into the body too. We use the reaction of vitamin C in the body (invivo). 24hours peed out.
Still the effect of the reaction is long lasting

Just be careful with zinc pico. Transitional metal can increase oxidative stress especially zinc pico lah. I have grayish hair transiently due to zinc pico during covid. Stop and hair color recovers

Bukan kira macam ini. Ur body will recommend for vitamin c is "75 milligrams (mg) a day for women and 90 mg a day for men" upper limit is 2000mg.

Supplement is a easier way to get all nutrition without makan all difference food. Like Zinc, calcium etc. it just make it simpler
Your body is limit on certain dose. Overdose is useless. Supplement is just for u to makan ngam ngam the dose without makan all different food.

Like Protein overdose will convert to uric acid, Carbo overdose will convert to fat and so on

Not true. When old need more supplements and normal food intake cnt provide becos most older ppl eat less not nasi banjir everyday. How much fruits and greens can a person take each day including nuts and grains for minerals?

I take turmeric capsules plus high potency cordyceps capsules (joint inflammation). Adding to this is the usual fish oil and vitamin B complex alternating with Neurobion (multi-B). If I eat a lot of curry in the week, then I take less tumeric capsules. I'm not into boiling turmeric, ginger and pepper soups as it's time consuming, which is good as it also increases body temperature which keeps cancer cells away.

For bad knees as long still have liquid in between the knee caps, I do a lot of stretching exercises which keeps my knees limber and do a lot of walking up the stairs whether at work or home.

* Plus running on tarmac after 50 is bad for joints. Try brisk walking uphill and less downhill. Unker stopped marathons at 55, so run in gym for cardio now.

I'm using tumeric powder, ginger power and crushed black pepper.
All I need to do is to just heat up the milk ( not too boil).
And mix the 3 ingredients into the warm milk
Add a bit of honey.

3 years no rest ah? i realised i got it before the hm.. just not obvious.. after hm direct cant walk. been like this 2 3 months. weekly i go for foot masat ask him hantam the heel part.. now i think at 80%.. have not run since then tongue.gif

3 years no rest.
still continue do sports, and even climbed mount kk (i took pain killers during this climb). biggrin.gif

tried once to rest for 1 month, not much help. Plantar still pain.
after that, didn't care. still do my usual exercise and sports. after that, will ice that area to reduce imflammatory.

suffer the most when i wake up the the morning, the first few minutes after i get down from the bed will feet the tapak kaki like jabbing pain. once loosen then OK, not too bad. but once the foot relax, like after sitting long time, pain again.

Sorry. What i meant is not that zinc pico is bad. Its just that the absorption is better than zinc oxide. Trace element better take from food. Hence i prefer to take more red meat. Probably during early illness or flu prevention can take higher dose.

Dr. Nir Barzilai says supplements definitely, unequivocally improve the health of one thing.
"Supplements are really good for the economy," the director of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine told Business Insider.
"They're supporting a lot of companies, a lot of workers," he said of the roughly $39 billion global-supplement market. But whether they're supporting our health is a murkier, more challenging question to answer.

When it comes to aging, Barzilai and other leading longevity experts say the supplement regimen you should choose to live a long, healthy life won't be one single, straightforward routine. It should be unique to each person and each moment in time.
"It should be driven by the biology of your body," Dr. Andrea Maier, who codirects the Centre for Healthy Longevity at the National University of Singapore, told BI. "Do not just take things."

Maier's own research has shown her that many supplements are not living up to their label claims and that everyone reacts a little differently to each pill they pop. Though she does recommend supplements to some of her patients at private and public longevity clinics in Singapore, she also takes a very personal and scientific approach to the task of prescribing them.

Because our body's ability to absorb nutrients diminishes as we age, it's true that supplements may help some people improve their longevity in certain ways if taken judiciously.

Here are five of the buzziest science-backed supplements around and what they may do for aging bodies:
Vitamin D
The supplement is taken by a long list of aging and longevity experts, including the immunologist Anthony Fauci and the biohacker Bryan Johnson, who wants to live forever. Vitamin D is essential for our bone density, helping us convert calcium into strength.

Generally, we absorb most of our vitamin D from the sun, so many people choose to supplement their vitamin D intake in the wintertime when they aren't getting as many rays outside. But you can also get vitamin D from a diet rich in fatty fish such as salmon, as well as fortified milk and egg yolks.

Barzilai says that even though his vitamin D levels are low, he doesn't supplement this nutrient.
"The only thing that vitamin D helps is for osteoporosis," he said.

And, he says bone scans suggest "my bones are really thick," so he doesn't think he needs to supplement.

Fish oil
Fish oil is a great heart-health protector, providing plenty of omega-3 fatty acids to help improve cholesterol. There's some evidence it's also good for preventing and improving the swelling and pain of arthritis through some anti-inflammatory properties.

But you can also get plenty of omega-3s from eating walnuts, salmon, or tuna. Eating your omega-3s in fish and nuts makes it easier to pack in a whole host of other nutrients too. Nuts, for example, are a great source of fiber, magnesium, and vitamin B6, while salmon is great for improving vitamin D stores and vitamin B12.

NAD+ boosters, such as NR
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a key enzyme that our body uses to create energy. It can help maintain tissue health, keep DNA repaired, and improve immune function and metabolism.

Both nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) are precursors that may help us produce more NAD+, and they have become popular antiaging supplements. But last year, the US Food and Drug Administration said that because NMN is being investigated as a drug, it "may not be marketed as or in a dietary supplement." NR is still allowed to be sold as a supplement, and some studies have suggested that it has decent anti-inflammatory properties that can help support healthy aging. More NR studies are needed targeting populations with NAD+ deficiencies to know for sure what benefits the supplement might provide to those who could use it the most.

Fisetin
This chemical compound, naturally occurring in brightly hued strawberries, persimmons, onions, and apples, is a great inflammation fighter that may help clear out old, toxic cells that build up as we age.

The longevity researcher Paul Robbins says he takes it every two weeks, and his "cranky" knee always feels better afterward. Other aging researchers are excited about the potential of fisetin to improve conditions as varied as arthritis and Alzheimer's. But many experts caution people to wait a few years until more is known about the benefits and risks of popping it at home.

Magnesium
Magnesium is a kind of wonder mineral for the body — great for maintaining healthy muscles, bones, nerves, blood pressure, and cellular health.

The longevity doctor Peter Attia pops several different kinds of magnesium every day to promote healthy aging. But you can already get a lot of magnesium just from eating a healthy plant-based diet full of dark leafy greens such as spinach, bananas, avocados, nuts, and beans.

Fine-tune your diet and exercise routine before you try supplements, experts say
There is no single supplement protocol all aging experts endorse. Instead, they universally agree that a healthy, plant-heavy diet rich in nuts, legumes, fruits, and vegetables will serve aging bodies very well.

And yet, in the US, more than half of American adults still take some supplements. Maier believes that's, in large part, to help ease anxiety. By buying a pill, we can feel as if we're taking charge of our health in a country where there's no drug that's ever been FDA approved for antiaging and no supplement recommended to prevent some of the most common age-related diseases and causes of premature death, such as cancer and heart disease.

Maier doesn't take any supplements, saying that her healthy vegan diet seems to get her what she needs. Barzilai takes only a homocysteine supplement "that has folic acid and vitamin B, or something like that." He said that's due to a specific genetic imbalance he has.

frm my understanding :

1. body doesn't create Vit C. So we gotta get it from either food or supplement. If excess Vit C, will flush out through urine.

More than that, & toxicity happens. However, I've read that cancer patients need as high as 23000mg/day.

2. Yes, cod fish oil is DEFINITELY better than fish oil.

No, it can't. Your body is getting fat because you're eating food that tells it to get fat. No amount of supplements can overcome that.

If you don't want to be over weight, stop eating

Get your vitamins from whole foods, not pills because of "bioavailability", just because it comes in a pill form doesn't you can absorb it.

Sleep is very important for old ppl...REM sleep (a stage of Deep sleep which often comes with Dreams) that will fully rest our brain and body... as we grow older we will need atleast 7-8 hours of solid sleep and a few minutes of REM sleep....
I wake up 5 times a night to wee-wee (when u grow older u will understand)...sleep gets disturbed. Next morning wake up groggy...never seems to have a solid rest.

Recently i took Magnesium Glycinate/Citrate and Magnesium Threonate. i still wake up 5 times a night BUT i wake up fresh in the morning...mind clear as a baby...google to learn more or just go any Pharmacy...give it a try.

Me mane ada pesal, I go supplement that part a bit. And see how the general blood test goes.

But one advice for sure is, buy supplement ah... Check their origin. If you eat loads of supplement one, better shift them to better product aka least laboratory made supplement, and opt for more naturally obtained or processed supplements.

Even the Folic Acid my wife taking cost us 200++ Quid for 30 tablets that's just enough for a month, compared to some 9.90 for 28days from local lanjiau pharmacy. Effect might be similar, as we all know, but knowing my wife taking nature folic acid is better than korangs eating human made stuff.

Its like you wanna be healthy, but your healthy is eating aspartame or xylitol or whatever instead of control yourself from eating too much cane sugar lel. End of day, escape diabetes, mati coz other matter like cancer or this that shit.
