Anyone getting constant high latency on multiple SG servers? eg. Valorant, Pathofexile, etc...
Heck, even my google & hotmail is loading very slow past few days
*
Valorant recovered for me on Thursday night. I noticed PoE has been on a higher 50ms with occasional spikes.

I wish to know too. Considering they have a valid service provider license, I guess by law they should comply.

But perhaps big brother will look the other way if the user base is small.

True on the former. Latter is prob true too since the entry cost for a setup like this is quite steep last time I heard.

I will share with you a little known secret since this is getting out of control.
Try getting a sim card in Singapore and roam here.
Home network will encrypt everything between you and this should allow bypass of everything.
This is assuming they don't shut down the cell tower and everything in between.
The way kill switch is implemented in India is at the internet gateway, this roaming method will allow bypass.

Like the others said, it's just that: a kill switch. If at any time government deems online spread of information is disadvantageous to them or can 'threaten national security', they can simply switch off the internet.

Granted, there are 2 versions of this kill switch that we've heard of: some outlets report it as a 'social media killswitch' and some report it as 'internet kill switch.'

Both are obviously extremely damaging to the entire country. No situation justifies turning off access to information or the internet as a whole in 2024.
*
Cheers.

I suppose they're building the legal framework to legalize their future actions?

No apply SM lesen. No cooperation to delete "detrimental" content.
Then we reserve the right to block MYians access to their site/app?

With all of this going on, gonna ask a quick question here...

Will things like starlink mitigate interruptions like this? Or legislation will get over this?
*
When we asked if Starlink is required to have local ground stations where traffic is rerouted domestically, MCMC said Starlink currently has ground stations in Malaysia.

So, with Starlink's ?reliance? on ground stations, they can sort of control Starlink?

If the aim is to cut off comms, the cell towers would prob the first thing to be turned off since that's the obvious one to flip the switch, isn't it?

They cannot because they still need to route emergency call. Plus they don't want to upset business traveller.
I'm sure TM One customer won't be affected as well

Possibly. All we can do right now is speculate but it's surely yet another way to control internet access.

Their target, again, are scammers, pedos, etc..

This kill switch is being worked on by 3 ministers including Gobind and advisors from EU, I believe. But I don't have high hopes for it to come out favorably la.

you can maintain the landline still if you do not wish to move to Unifi

You can opt for the Wireless Home Phone option, with a 12 month contract and they will give you a "Nanominds WHP-S20"
https://www.nanominds.cc/whp-s20.html

they put a Unifi Mobile SIM into it and your old landline connects up to the VOIP port of it
and it works just like the landline

Appears to be a rebranded ZLT S20 4G LTE Router
http://www.sztozed.com/en/contents/58/85.html

However, all the wifi stuff seems to have been removed/disabled, so it can only be used for VOIP
No internet connection either if you connect up to the LAN port at the back

It's not super great, it likes to randomly lose connection / reboot at times
*
Interesting. Maybe this piece of info is not so well communicated as they rather push to subscribe internet. If house with elderly parent who doesn't really use the net, means they buta buta pay just to get landline.

I’ll still be talking to MCMC since they did help me in the past (Minister Fahmi filed a legal request on my behalf to Meta to remove someone who was yapping too much about his so called ethnic privilege) and I would like to meet them personally.

I think that this is a continuation of that help, but I think maybe it’s too arrogant to say that that’s the case - I want to understand why they did this, though, so I will talk to them tomorrow.

Please ask if they even thought of how blocks like these will affect the planned google & aws datacenters, probably will scare off any future DC investments too.

True, these decisions come around the same time of the planned DCs, may affect these projects coming here since Internet might become non-standard (that's the word?) here I guess?

Yes. For sure they would not want to affect businesses and travelers.

I think the second situation I mentioned is more likely where it is a kill switch for non compliant social media platforms.

Social media or not, the tech scene in Malaysia is officially dead. Tech is borderless and money is made borderless too. How do you expect startup to survive without social media?

Malaysia market is way too small and with all the restrictions, it won't be a surprised if we see Shopee or Grab get "quarantined" regularly.

Plus all the Malaysian remote tech worker will looks like pariah now.

That's why need to see the public's and businesses' response to that as well, not just this DNS thing.

Just imagine how regularly Youtube alone would have to be quarantined.
