why free vpn? free doesn't always mean good. something like mullvad is better. u don't pay much more ontop of ur internet subscription ;_:

or if u want to cheap out more there some other cheaper alternatives. maybe nordvpn or surfshark?

mullvad caps it to 5 devices. other vpn may allow no limit devices, or not. depends on their policy

fyi mullvad isn't for netflix geo unblock. it doesn't work well for that purpose. so you need to look at a different vpn if you are using for that. i think expressvpn supports that for netflix last time? not sure now.

some vpn depending on your broadband subscription speed, may reduce your dl and ul speed. but using mullvad for 100-300 mbps dl, works fine. You don't see the reduced speed to throttle your max dl/ul.

Another issue with using vpn, you are more prone to get cloudflare bot challenges. So that is an annoyance

best saver of the day. Everything running and working well. even has adguard filter list built into the dns.

Just registered an account with them, link the IP with my account and whole network has inbuilt ad filtering as well..no need private dns.

By the way, just out of curiosity, do you use external "device" to filter like how EVERY SIFU does in here?? Because according to one wizard here, EVERY SIFU MUST HAVE pihole.

did try pihole, it's ok.

then add filter lists like stevenblack. more so cauz chrome is gonna kill off ublocker origin soon. recommend switching to firefox if you haven't already.

I think you must be way above the sifu level already then. Sifu of the Sifu, if follow the jokers word that when you use pihole must be sifu level.

Guess I'm way out of every sifu in here. need to learn how to climb to those rankings in the online forum.

for people using opnsense instead of pfsense, they don't have pfblocker, so they do things a bit different to get a similar functionality for it

if you follow the guides out there on google and youtube, just follow the sifu's step by step. should be able to setup just fine.


the way i learned was go computer class early age. after that is just self thought. some people build careers around IT, but you don't have to, but still be IT literate.

With so many malware, phishing attacks, and now dns poisoning, it doesn't hurt to learn about IT to be able to manage it.

According to one user here, linux+pihole is the bestest. and every sifu level must be using it!!!

But then again, my Deco X50's is LOWER Tier than a crappy Asus Gen5...perhaps I need to start looking for AC rated ASUS router at the used market. So that I can finally reach sifu level, if not , at the very least reaching sifu journey on how to be a master of DNS on the online forums.

Jokes aside, are you using that sset up, on a home network or work network?, or you are using it because you are running/operating more sophisticated services/work at home?

still needs a bit of experience to set it up, pfsense is the same range of hardware as mikrotik...enterprise grade of routers. I'll stick with the consumer grade of crappy products then

Don't want too overcomplicated and requires another piece of hardware and electric consumption. the decos is serving me well , don't want to go through hassle of buying and selling unused hardware again. Having to entertain people like 'sifus' with narcissistic behaviour on the marketplace is truly a pain in the butt

I use Adguard Home running on my Mikrotik ax3. Just started last year when Mikrotik added container support. Nothing prior to that because didn't want to setup another device just for Adguard Home or Pihole.

I know almost zero about dnscrypt but yes, if using dnscrypt with e.g. opendns then it'll be blocked unless the dnscrypt resolver is on a different IP address that's not the usual opendns IPs.

That sucks, there's ways around it but I'm guessing tm/mcmc targeting the general population

If you already have that hardware setup, then yes of course it makes sense to use that full capacity of mikrotik. I don't think you are using any of those consumer grade router with fancy GUI Pairing to your mikrotik right ?

I prefer a more straightforward approach by using home consumer grade gui , don't want manual coding

if it's NXDOMAIN/ no IP Addresses, then it means the network has requested Firefox to disable Auto DoH

it only affects those who have never touched DoH settings before
if you manually adjusted DoH settings then firefox ignores this
