i wanna ask u guys, any idea why whenever i run deluge...everything runs fine...just tat afterr i leave it idle for a few hours (untouched)...and when i return to see the status of my torrent, the entire deluge froze...and i gotta do a force quit and restart it again

btw, i store all my torrents to my windows ntfs partition....can tat be the problem?

thx
*
no problems with where you store the torrents. As long as your ntfs partition is mounted and the torrent client knows where to save files, you're fine... I have heard problems with deluge happen often... I personally recommend kTorrent. It get's past traffic shaping well (>100KBps downloads for all files some times) and is streamline with all necessary functions (RSS, widgets) and there's no bugs in the latest release.

hey, i am interested in using ubuntu (and obviously i am a noob at this sweat.gif)
but looking at the graphical interface, i kinda worried that my system can't do the decent job running it, so can all the sifu here give any guidance?
my system specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512MB PC133 SDRAM
128MB ATI RADEON 9600SE

and i have 2 hdd in my system (WinXP installed on a 20GB HDD, i am planning to do dual-boot by installing Ubuntu on another 40GB HDD)

so can it be done? thanks notworthy.gif

managed to install ubuntu onto my system
but the desktop effect cannot be activated, worse still is that not even the resolution can be changed, stuck with 800x600 resolution
tried to change to 1280x1024 monitor and fglrx driver (both open source and proprietary tried) but after restart everything reset by itself to generic vesa driver and plug and play monitor

Having the same problem here. If I enable the driver, it'll run on low graphics mode after restart. Then after i disabled it, it's ok again. Using nvidia 6600GT with driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.19-pkg1.run

I doing dual in my laptop. You just install as usuall but careful when doing in partition section. Make sure you choose manual. And you need to know which one the partition that windows use. icon_question.gif

sometimes i just dont bother with the drivers from nvidia or ati ... more likely than not your gfx card just need to ENABLE THE RESTRICTED DRIVERS ..
system>admin>restricted driver manager ... enable the driver (maje sure u have internet connection coz it needs to download the driver)
should work .. smile.gif

It's because I enable it, that's why it's running in low graphics mode. I need to disable the driver to get resolutions higher than 800x600. I'm trying to set it up using Envy now. Hope it'll work.

even if i use open source drive, it wud still run at low graphic mode
think ATI sux on Ubuntu, or another way round, whatever

tried some solutions found online, after reboot, voila, 1280x1024 resolution, but stuck at login screen. kept entering the username and password but the screen will go blank for a second and return back to the login screen after awhile, reformatted and using windows now, give up

Problem solved via Envy. Just run the thing and it'll configure everything for you. Should have downloaded that long ago, instead of wasting my time configuring maually.

What driver version did Envy download? Note that you will need ATI fglrx 8.42.3 and later to enable desktop effects without installing Xgl. Also, you will need to modify /usr/bin/compiz to whitelist the ATI fglrx driver. ATI Catalyst 7.11 will also work.

To whitelist the ATI fglrx driver, open /usr/bin/compiz as root, then find the following line:

CODE
WHITELIST="nvidia intel ati radeon i810"

Replace with:

CODE
WHITELIST="fglrx nvidia intel ati radeon i810"

Note that you need to enable to Composite and AIGLX ServerFlag in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Did you download the CCSM? [sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager]? After that go in to Appearance and enable custom visual settings...

I've just installed Gutsy Gibbon after all the delay. I found a problem which never happened in the past versions of Ubuntu. When I press Restart, the screen will just turn black and stop responding. I will have to power down manually and start again. What's the problem?

Edit: Similar problem happened with shutdown command.

1. Backup your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
2. run this command as root (ubuntu please use sudo)
CODE
sudo perl -pi -e "s/(Modes).*/\1 1024x768/" /etc/X11/xorg.conf

*change the value to any resolution you want to use. Make sure your monitor support the resolution you want to use.
* If you got blank screen or some how the resolution not working, just replace xorg.conf with your backup.
* what's wrong with wireless?

question 1:
basically if you are ubuntu, just type this in terminal
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup

actually, it really doesn't matter for you to ends you backup file to .backup, it can be anything, it just to make sure that it got a different name,

which actually answer question 2:
in ubuntu, when need root access, start your command with sudo.
in other, type su <enter>
then type your root password.
then you will see a root shell. which is indicated with #, then just type your command.

as for your wireless, need to which what brand you use, erm fat chance it is not supported, so you probably need ndiswrapper, which might or might not work.

This Gutsy Gibbon is a pure letdown. Everything is bugged on my computer.
Btw, anyone tried Hardy Heron Alpha 1?
