yeah~~~ asked him last time and since I dun have internet I can't tell u... -.-"
hand feeding?? I never hand feeding him XD
just put the food in the bowl.. n every morning when I put his food he knows food coming and fast fast wait there lol
mine... normally will kiss him sometimes when i played wif him... and i think he likes it? cuz till now he never bite me.. hehe

btw.. u give Demon fruit to eat? is it ok? if okay.. wanna try give him some fruit like apple.. hehe
why ppl like the name Gie Gie? cuz till now my housmate kept on called him Gie Gie  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
*
You can feed fruits. In the wild they would take berries and any ripe fruit that falls to the ground. Just no seeds.... seeds are toxic.

QUOTE(Cimredopyh @ Dec 6 2007, 04:42 PM)
some fruit is ok and good for fiber but you must remove seeds

Theres a good list here of what fruits/veg are safe and not safe to feed them
Hedgie Food List

Just want to ask tho, how come he rushes to the food blink.gif do you wait till he empty the bowl then only feed again? or perhaps you do not give enough each serving?
hedgehogs should be free fed, especially when they are young and growing, meaning they should always have food available in their bowl 24-7.

Edit=added link
*
Young hedgehogs would need more food.... but once they reach 4 months, you can stop putting a full bowl and give 2 tablespoons a day. I normally let my hedgehogs finish before refilling the bowl. Less wastage.

QUOTE(alvinz @ Dec 6 2007, 06:41 PM)
LOL .. i will be trading my yum cha and part of my food money for it ... haha ..can go on diet.. LOL

btw i found this site which shows alot of colour of hedgehogs... they use special wired cage for their hedgie but too bad they r in chicago..

Hedgies Colour(Platinum very nice)
*
The wire cages are bad. Coz hedgehogs can climb.... so if there is a way to climb, they would but they got no sense of proper balance when climbing so once they fall, there is a risk of injuries lah.

Anyway, the colours there are not 100% correct. I would refer to hedgehogcentral on colour morph.

QUOTE(Lil'Maine @ Dec 6 2007, 08:07 PM)
i have a question...is it normal for Gie Gie to be still quilling? she 2months plus only....i saw so many quills in her bedding juz now...i'm scared is mites...but i dun c her scratching though...she's always sleeping....
*
LOL... quilling won't stop lah. 2 months will start to quill... and it would go on for a month or 2. So you need not worry lah. Go and Google up on quilling and look back, we got discuss about this in previous post.

Hedgehogs can cuddle... but got only when it is tame. Mine can heheheh.... actually, out of my 3 adult hedgehogs, only Sparky and Crinkles can handle and hug hug a bit.... Donut can't.... but this little baby hoglet can hahahaha.... very tame. Gosh, the lucky owner gonna take before 18 Dec... I'm gonna miss this sweet little girl.

Today she is 63g.... fast fast put on weight.

Research more on hedgehogs, they eat cat food and insects, lifespan about 5 years to 8 years.... overall they are easy to keep lah but we must do research to understand their behaviour, what can be use for bedding and so on....

Oh, u are going to give your hoglet away? unsure.gif hmmm... sayang... so cute... blush.gif

hmm... can eat cat food eh? hehehe, great... can share with my cats d... tongue.gif

Is best you refill up the bowl once it is empty.... but if it doesn't go empty in 48 hours, throw away and refill....

Yah..... coz I breed to gain tame hedgies for people, also to breed out a different colour. Too bad the different coloured one got eaten, so left this one which someone has booked before I bred my hedgehogs eeheheh.....

Yes, can eat catfood.... but best not those cheap brands and not IAMS.... other high quality brands are ok.

I don't think so coz you need the pinto gene to make it bicolour.... just like the spotted gene with rodents..... 1 parent can give out some pinto offspring coz I think the pinto gene is dominant..... Without at least 1 pinto, you won't get any pintos here.

We are able to get cinnamons, apricots, cinnacots because of mixed genetics through the importation of them into the pet trade..... but some of these animals are imported from thailand or indonesia..... pintos are only available in US I think coz there they do colour breeding....

LOL.... looks like you do not know, hedgehogs are not easy to breed like ABC.... there are pros and cons, risk of hoglets getting eaten.... that's why I said before, breed only after you have done tones of research. You must be prepared to do handfeeding..... not many people know about this. I know a few breeders who quit breeding hedgehogs coz they make loses since the females mostly eat up all their young and only leave 1 or 2 alive.... but this depends on the female lah.

Indonesia got.... you just have to know where to look for.... normally the underground pet trade.... gliders and hedgehogs go for like RM50 only.... but if you do not know anyone who can guide you to the pet trading area, then you won't be able to find lah.

yeah I know that but.. my cousin want to buy it but can't find a place to buy... and also I told him before that if he really want to buy hedgie ask him to do some homework... and I ask him not to buy around this... wait till I go back home then accompany him to go... cuz' I'm not sure whether the pet shop there n here is the same.. cuz' I found one pet shop who sell the hedgie... but still I asked him to do homework first....

You check carefully. Only use frontline when you are sure there are mites. You look carefully. We must not simply use frontline on hedgehogs coz it is after all poison.

If sheimi is not scratching, not producing dandruff, then it has no mites lah. Just give him a normal bath. Quills will grow back. It is afterall their hair... like ours lah, we also sometimes drop hair.

Added on November 28, 2007, 8:26 pmHere is the little hoglet that is 29 days old today.

The quarantine for 3 weeks is actually long for a hedgie... and yah, price damn high.

LOL.... my hoglet bites for play. Like tug of war.... this came about coz due to handfeeding as I had to separate her early and handfeed with syringe. Playfulness, not really aggression..... so far she is not scared of fingers or hands, which is good. If you hold a tissue paper in front of her, she would hold it in her mouth and tug at it like a little dog.

Actually 2 tablespoons is exactly what i give now rclxms.gif
( I said they should always have food in the bowl, i didnt say they should always have a FULL bowl....im crazy, but im not THAT crazy)

1 tbsp at night, by next morning is usually at least 95% finished
then i add roughly another tbsp in the morning before i go to work depending on how much is left in the bowl
the amount he eats in the daytime can vary quite alot from 60% to 90%
then at night the bowl is washed and any leftovers thrown away before again adding food

Altho just putting in 2 tbsp at once is easier, i find going by 2 servings is handy for me to keep an eye on his food intake. There is very little wastage since i add on depending on how much is leftover.
Also as im using a water bowl and not a bottle i need to change the water, so putting 2 tbsp all at once does not save me much time laugh.gif

Coz new animals would always have a risk of carrying something contagious that could endanger local wild life. The quarantine is to monitor and make sure no disease or sickness spread openly. If it does have a sickness or disease, it would only affect the quarantine area, then it won't be so bad. Imagine if it brings a deadly virus? Then we mix with our hedgehogs, all later die.... then the virus also infects rabbits, chickens and so on..... so quarantine is basically monitoring their health before completely allowing it to come into our country. All countries got different length of quarantine.
