EDIT: Learnt my mistake and I accept it - should've known about AA better.

So I was supposed to board 6:55am flight to Jakarta and I arrived at luggage counter by 5:49am the very least. There were only two staffs managing the counters not just for Jakarta but all flights to Indonesia. I heard no announcements nor anybody came up to me or the queue asking any Jakarta passengers.

When my turn came up to the counter, the lady simply said "we asked /announced last call an hour before the departure time - where were you? We cannot check in the baggage now"

I HAVE PROOF I was at the queue at 5:49 as I sent a photo to a group chat saying I'm coming soon. Can I do anything about it other than whining and spoiling my day? Tweet at mavcom or someone?

international flight please arrive at counter 2 hours ahead.
if you borderline like this case, its your own responsibility to ensure you go to counter and tell them you are on x flight, departing in x hours. they will help.

regardless of airline you take, be it ax or sq, all same.
european airport need to arrive 6 hours ahead to queue

only difference, is subang airport. can arrive 45 minute before departure even for international.

Lesson learnt. Don't be borderline late at all. Coz cibai airlines like aa will gladly fucuk u.

If you want good service then pay premium.

Last time I late but using sg airline they still let me go. But ticket price premium. You get what you paid for.

I kid you not, I have checked in 45mins before departure time for an 8 hour international flights before. No problemo. But as mentioned by others, Air Asia seems to be doing this I think. I'm at KLIA right now and I see people checking in for 9:20am international flights.

It's written black and white that international flights check-in counters close 1 hour before departure. If they let anyone check-in after that, that's their courtesy and good will. But if they deny you, there's nothing you can do.

If you know you are in a long queue and can't make it, you should ask the staff there to assist you immediately.

sometimes can blame airline but sometime also need to swallow the hard pill.

" football game say start 8pm every week yet we have players coming in saying its ok i only play 2nd half no need come early, so if half the team decide they only want to play 2nd half how is it fair for those on time want to play the entire game but not enough players to kick off? "

EVERY WEEK ! this is happening! HUMANS !

Even u q on time but when u had ur turn but its already less than 1 hour before ur flight, u cant check in ur luggage.

This is standard practice kan? Except subang cos small airport with lesser people in which luggage must be drop before 45mins.

Hence why u must come to the airport 2-3 hours earlier to participate the long q; especially AA cos customer service is non existant.

Never take flight before? Reach there at least 2 hours before to avoid matters like this. Don't kbkb if you don't follow suggested time.

stupid own fault .... I never go to the airport less then 2.5 hours before my intl flight. Last time during Covid when I need to fly to Philippines for a business trip I arrive 3 hours ahead of time and the line was so long, by the time I checked in its 30 mins before departure. Always anticipate things might not go smooth

I dont see anything wrong on AA here, if their clause say luggage check in 1hrs before flight, remember is CHECK IN, if u stuck in the queue for being "just on time" then is ur problem, that why they ask u come early in case long queue to avoid this kind of issue.

Always follow the black and white when u purchase the ticket, just because last time they let u check in 30mins before departure does not automatically mean every time u can do so. Luggage need travel thru conveyor belt then transport then to plane, the whole airport not serving only your flight.

The issue is checking in luggage. It takes time to transfer your luggage to the plane. AA is right in this case. Unless you only have carry on luggage then ok.

rule of thumb, always arrive early to check in with baggage 2-3 hours early; dont care which LCC or full fledged.

if you cant arrive at that time, next time book next flight schedule.

Bruhh, U have to take the airport into consideration. Jakarta airport has more flights than a lot of other countries airports. U try heathrow 30 mins before - u wouldn't be allowed to board.

If you're not good at calculating, definitely go early.

For AA you have to follow their rules. MAS will allow you to check in if there is still time for you to get to the departure gate before it closes. For AA it's all about money. They want you to buy another ticket.

AA makes money by having fast turnaround time, so they can fit in as many trips as possible and delay means loss of revenue (or so they say)

That’s why if u r late, it is ur problem. Long queue? Go earlier.

Not only AirAsia, whole world are same rulez. Checked in Luggage counter will be closed 1 hrs before departure & 30 minute for the Gate closing.
That why International flight had to arrived airport 3 hrs earlier from your departure time.

Take it as a lesson.

Exactly, TS thought can board flights according to his own time. When all this while, those airlines were just being courteous & nice to him. They have all the rights to deny passenger late below a certain a time limit & it’s not airline fault for doing it

a few things to point out
1. why is TS playing the minute game like that?
2. many here suggested other airlines as if this rules don't apply to EVERY airlines on earth
3. even if they let your luggage through at that time, there's a very high chance your luggage won't made it to the destination...thn TS will make another post about it

old habits. He probably think international flights are same as domestic flights. This is common mentality with people from small towns with small airports.

It's morning flight. AA has a tendency to take off early for morning flight.

My boss also used to take AA and always got caught out. He only has hand carry bag on top of it. However, he also missed a couple of flight even without the need to check-in baggages because the plane took off earlier.

You're literally lying that you reached the airport 30mins before departure time. Even if you have no check-in luggage, it takes more than 30 mins to go through the whole process to reach your gate.

Just suck it up that you messed up and don't blame the rules.

Yes, with some small or less busy airport or less full flight, you might get away with shorter time. But I wouldn't want to risk it myself.

You prefer to walk or swim? You should take other airlines to destination if you don't like Tony. The reality is, Tony offer the cheaper fare and people want to save money. I am sure there are other airlines.

Tweet at mavcom or someone?

how many AA complain post we are gonna hear.

How government can allow them to keep ripping people off is amazing

But in your case, you should reach 3 hr before. First time flying? Always better to be early than late.

Unless you are agong, pls behave like a pipit (I mean it).

Many here give misleading response

This is not an AA problem

Any airline would tell you the same thing

Youre late.

Come to the airport late, still wanna blame airline. U first time flying eh?

Can't you read on the the massive flight billboard, where the check in check counter is for your flight?

Since when airasia make announcement for every single flight, where to check in? Just look at the billboard, and proceed to the right counter.

It's completely your fault. I don't like Tony, but airasia is not wrong here.

actually they can, but as low cost carrier they cannot.

last time we reached klia 30 minutes before departure, check-in has close, but we talk to the helpdesk, they arrange a counter to check us in. and guide us to the fast luggage drop at the end of the hall. then we practically ran all the way to the gate, with escort.

it was a flight to london anyway.

I already ban kao AA more than 10 years ago. This is one of my wisest choices in life.

Possible remedy:
TS should ask for the next free flight from AA flight manager if you can proof that they have done you wrong immediately after the incident.

I kid you not, I have checked in 45mins before departure time for an 8 hour international flights before. No problemo. But as mentioned by others, Air Asia seems to be doing this I think. I'm at KLIA right now and I see people checking in for 9:20am international flights.

i always check in 3 hours/2.5hours latest for intertnational flights.

i think airasia did mention in their guideline about the check in hour when they first shifted to klia2 last time.

I did this for MAS but not for AA

This was a good 15 years ago and my bag was last on plane , first out on luggage in Melbourne and I skip all the queue

its international flight and TS is arriving late for check-in

I also banned AA since many yrs ago, as well as any code sharing with AA
so far, no amount of cheap ticket managed to entice me to use AA

Yeah, why not?

Even better if you don't have check in luggage, just do online check in. Can straight go in there.

If you are luggage check in, its your fault

Without luggage, you check in earlier 1 hour will do.

As this is serious kopitiam, i hope you learn your lesson, u can quit using AA, but if apply same attitude on others airlines, you might facing same issue. just try to make it 2h or 2.5h earlier especially after border open.

Checking in 1-1.5 hours is alright.
But you have to cut the queue. Go straight to the front of the counter or those priority counter.

That’s technically the “last call”.

As long as is international 2H before with or without baggage because custom side sure jam. If the airport we are not familiar better go 3hours earlier.

if domestic 1-2H earlier.. I very scare to miss my flight..
