Congratulations on your achievements! While many are feeling sus I think it's not too far off. I'm in a similar trajectory with you as well but a year younger and probably around your 2020's pay.

Been chilling alot lately but are also wondering if it's about time to push further and penetrate beyond function head into C-levels of technology. I myself is also "rojak IT" as you were.

Any tips sifu?  notworthy.gif

Congrats cuddlybubblyteddy, those are fantastic prospects you have there! I hear about more people jumping into this space even despite the down market smile.gif

I myself would like to consider opportunities in this space, but I'm concerned since crypto/blockchain is considered a risky industry here from what I've read. I have a couple of questions on this, if you don't mind helping to answer them I would be most grateful:

1. Since you are paid in crypto, I presume at some point you have to convert it to fiat to spend it. How do you do this, do you convert crypto > USD > MYR?
2. Since BNM / SC have marked crypto industry as risky and your annual income is high, your bank would have noticed when you transferred money in. Did they call you up to ask where the funds came from and if so, what sort of docs should one have from their foreign employer for this?
3. Is there chance of bank freezing your MYR account since its from crypto?
4. If you work with crypto/blockchain companies, but they pay you in USD/EUR/GBP instead of crypto, would you still be flagged by the banks for working in the industry?
5. Can you recommend banks in Malaysia that are crypto friendly?
6. Can you use the earnings from crypto to build / improve your credit rating with the banks so you can get higher CC limit, car loan, housing loan etc?
7. How would one start to join the crypto community in Malaysia? Any telegram groups, forums, meetups in KL that you can recommend?

Hi, may I know have you successfully change to a new job or change your career path? Do you think you are underpaid since with your current years of experience, you should be at least an Assistant Manager with salary more than 6k. Im not sure whether you are underpaid or the company you are staying is paying you lower than market price.

I am in the same field with you with 2+ years experience and my company is already paying the similar amount as yours so Im trying to research on the pay before considering a job change since Im mainly doing tendering only

Let me tell you a story.

1. When people getting RM3k salary, they don't believe other people can get RM5k.
2. For those people who get RM5k, they doubt people who told them get RM8k.
3.  Rm8k people will doubt those who get RM15k, and the story
4. Continue....

Most people think their salaries are good enough or very hard to go up anymore, so when they hear someone give them a number they think they can't achieve, they will have doubts.

yeah this is unbelievable actually

How did you get from 18k to a big jump to 47k ya? Any tips and tricks? I think in IT especially in banks and insurance line, getting 18k is not that unbelievable, in fact I am getting around there as well. But I am not sure what is the next big jump that I can go to..perhaps becoming Architect or going to full senior management role?

2004-2009: Project Engineer - Automotive: From RM1.8k~RM2.8K/month
2009–2010: Sabbatical, quit job and did MSc abroad in UK: RM 0K (used up all my life savings and work 3 odd-jobs daily after class to survive, i.e. academic fees + room rental + food)
2011-2012: Supply Chain – O&G: From RM5.3K~ RM6.3K/month
2013–2014: Assignment abroad– O&G: RM ~40K/month (Salary + Expat Allowance)
2014–2021: Supply Chain (Back in Msia) – O&G: From RM8.5K~RM19.5K/month
2022–Today: Assignment abroad – O&G: RM ~80K/month (Salary + Expat Allowance)

*all are before tax (except the assignment base)
*Same O&G company from 2011 until today

Hope to maintain and continue working on assignment for as long as I can, to save up for retirement. 17 years to go until retirement age (yes, old guy oledi compared to most of you here).

do you mind sharing what MSc you did and how you apply into O&G, i.e. via their online website using overseas address etc.

Both, jump into the system architecture in your company, understand every integration and purposes (best if you could understand the purposes of every fields), this is important especially when you step into management board meetings, you will be the one that has a SAY besides director.

You need to understand that you are currently in a very good position, have the chance to meet and speak with management people which others don't, please make use of this chance and impression is very important. You doesn't need to be fluent in specific language but you must be committed to what you have agreed and presented.

For me, I started from investment banking, after get used to the investment platform, I extend my knowledge to core banking which I would have exposure on CASA, FD, Cards etc products (including insurance), and there's where I started to take bigger responsibility and important role wink.gif Maintain good relationship with my GMD, MD, C levels and ground level staff, I have been so many taichi experience with these fella. Find your way to overcome this. Project management isn't rocket science, main issue is people biggrin.gif

With above effort and opportunity, I managed to get such hike in terms of salary, position, and exposure.

Hope it helps

Anyone know to whom do we report if an employer hasn't paid your salary after resigning? Jabatan Buruh? IRD? as im at a loss now.

Also the dept we report to must be local to where the company is located or can be reported to any other district/state ones?
