QUOTE(jackbanner @ Oct 27 2021, 10:56 AM) What do you mean by "2018 mac mini is much more suitable to be your daily 24/7 computer" compared to your 2017 macbook pro? MBP if u connect to AC power 24x7, less than a year the battery will be bloated even it is a brand new replacement battery. my 2017 MBP batter bloated for 3 times and i replaced it at apple orchard for 3 times (free though). after the most recent replacement early this year, i no longer use it (it is on standby for on the go usage only) as i bought my mac mini 2018. since mac mini has no battery, i can on it for 24x7 without worrying battery bloated issue. jackbanner liked this post

QUOTE(dikae @ Oct 27 2021, 01:19 PM) Wow that's hell of a mac journey you had within the past decade yeah. next mac i buy certainly will be on M1 since it is not going to have intel mac for all line-up soon. Back in Intel days, a laptop is always a laptop with lots of limitations but they provide mobility.. Mac mini can withstand with the hardcore long hours that the Intel mbp can't... Hope the M1 Pro and max will have the best of both worlds now i only worry that that soon apple will not have new macOS upgrade for intel based macs like what they did when they transitted from powerPC to intel mac. although i dun use macOS now. there is no much new features on intel based macs even for the latest macOS 12 Monterey. my macOS on my mac mini is still on macOS 10.15 Catalina while my 2017 MBP is still on macOS 10.13 High Sierra. QUOTE(dikae @ Oct 27 2021, 03:14 PM) yeah. dota 2 is not very high demanding game, even my friend can play it smoothly on his 2015 MBP also. This post has been edited by westlife: Oct 27 2021, 10:19 PM |

it is a no-brainer to get the base 14-inch instead of similar storage and ram 13-inch. This post has been edited by westlife: Oct 27 2021, 11:15 PM ye0073 liked this post

QUOTE(iman_210 @ Oct 27 2021, 11:45 PM) 1.4kg vs 1.6kgit will be noticeable heavier but no-brainer given the little extra u pay u can get significantly more things out of it. better display, speakers, webcam, faster SoC/SSD and more ports. really no brainer. now it is either one can live with lowest spec m1 macbook air by paying the minimum or go with the base 14-inch. no point to get 13-inch MBP at all. kevinpss liked this post

Demo unit in Apple Store from yesterday night
16" with M1 Pro The design is unlike the previous MacBook with a tapered edge. And the MacBook Pro engraving on the bottom is beautiful, but forget to take a photo of it. A closer look at the Magsafe port. 14" base model. This post has been edited by ckeong89: Oct 28 2021, 08:04 AM |

Also, the one thing I would hope Apple transfer to the 2022 13" Mbp if there is one is the magnetic charger...I really don't care about the rest....1) flat design instead of tapered-wedge on air (pesonally i prefer this) 2) longer battery life of 20 3) better mic 4) better speaker 5) touchbar 6) fan design instead of fanless on air which gives slightly better sustainable performance based on the rumours, it is good to wait till the next m1 macbook air upgrade. it may have mini-LED which is going to be a game changer. https://www.macrumors.com/2021/10/22/2022-m...-display-rumor/ |

Also, the one thing I would hope Apple transfer to the 2022 13" Mbp if there is one is the magnetic charger...I really don't care about the rest.... yes, fanless design. but given that it is M1 chip that is so power efficent and most ppl are doing normal tasks on macbook air, so it is ok actually. for weight i actually love the 2015 to 2016 macbook 12-inch. it is only 0.92kg but too bad the screen is a bit too small. magsafe is something 'may' not come to macbook air given its slimmer design. the 2016 to 2020 MBP has no magsafe is due to the slimmer design that they ditched all the ports. now 14-inch/16-inch has it back it is due to the thicker design also. |

Unless one could get a real bargain, else it is no point to consider 13 MBP M1 anymore IMO.M1 Air or base 14" MBP is the more sensible choice now. Well, this is easier said than done, budget come first after all. |

QUOTE(engseng @ Oct 19 2021, 06:57 PM) Which 4K monitor are you using? I’m using LG 32un880.These new MacBook Pros have that Liquid Retina XDR display which use mini-LED with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. That's a lot better than most of the 4K LCD monitors out there that only have 1,000:1 contrast ratio. Unless you guys are using LG C1 for your monitor which has near infinite contrast ratio |

Agree, they made it easier to decide now with mba 13” at 4k vs mbp 14” at 8.8k, mbp 13” is like neither here nor there M1 Air or base 14" MBP is the more sensible choice now. Well, this is easier said than done, budget come first after all. |

QUOTE(westlife @ Oct 27 2021, 11:51 PM) 1.4kg vs 1.6kg This is so true… apparently the performance of the Air M1 is not that far off from the base 13” Pro M1 according to most reviewers. That price gap between the base 13” Pro and the base 14” Pro though it will be noticeable heavier but no-brainer given the little extra u pay u can get significantly more things out of it. better display, speakers, webcam, faster SoC/SSD and more ports. really no brainer. now it is either one can live with lowest spec m1 macbook air by paying the minimum or go with the base 14-inch. no point to get 13-inch MBP at all. |
