How hot is it? The temps might still be sustainable by your graphics card. If it doesnt pass 75 on load and you dont face any random reboots during gaming sessions.

If you want to replace the stock heatsink with another silent cooling solution, you might want to look up on Arctic Cooling S1. I think i read somewhere that it can fit on 8600s.

Take a look at this. You might wanna ask ShawTy to confirm this though.

Sorry if i missed anything, but is the 65nm 8800GTS 320MB or 640MB? And in what terms it would beat the old 8800GTX?

Better. Performance. That pretty much sums it up.

Then again, it depends on your budget and resolution. No point getting 8800 for a puny 1024 x 768.

Lotsa people used to say 8800GTS 320MB suits gaming at 22" monitors (or 1680 x 1050 resolution, whichever you prefer), but i beg to differ. 320MB might just be fine for current games like MOH:A and Bioshock (both are on UE3, by the way), but World In Conflict totally smokes the 8800GTS 320MB at this reso. At High settings on Dx9 (which is not the highest settings), the game lags during high intensity battles (e.g. carpet bombing, napalm strikes etc). Now, im not so sure about the game mechanics, and the lags could be due to poor coding or some tech thingamajiggy. But the performance needed to run this game on its highest settings is well worth it.. Explosions are stunning, and the sun, clouds and water have this realistic look that really adds to the overall ambience.

Crysis is a weird game w/lots of bugs still... maybe it's a bug, but... why can't  you use your own gun in the vehicle ? why can't you use binoculars in the driver's seat ? why isn't there a crouch toggle ? and worst of all. why can't you use a weapon when you're in water ? I mean, you don't need your hands to tread water smile.gif  and even if you did, how come you can use your binocs in water but you can't use your weapons ? smile.gif  8600GT/E2140/2GB RAM runs fairly well in 1280x1024 (optimal resolution for this monitor) but the silly ridiculous interface and things you can't do are spoiling the game for me.  You can shoot birds out of the sky, but you can't draw your weapon in the water. Graphics-wise it looks like far cry (which is YEARS old. The game cuts to a cutscene after you trigger something. The cutscenes are typical ATI-optimized ones (flat shading. garish oversaturated colors) which is why they run slow on NVidia's cards. Bet they run well on ATIs though, but then they're only cutscenes, and who wants oversaturation anyway.

I cant disagree with you about the amount of bugs in the game, but certain issues you raised is rather illogical. Handling a weapon a la drive-by style might not be hard, but when trying to negotiate forest terrain while under fire by trained soldiers, shooting back is not a priority, surviving is. Then again, you can play the game on easy/medium difficulty and gain access to the mounted .50 cal MG. Again, driving and using the binocs at the same time is not the smartest thing to do. Sure, you can say, "When i stop the car, i should be able to use the binocs." But wont it be too complicated? Its just a game, not some military sim. And no, you cant fire certain weapons underwater, let alone submerge it.

But one still has to take in account the juice required to power up a SLI rig, which would translate into rm 400-500 worth of PSU upgrade?

Btw uncle ian, what does your 2400Pro function as in your rig?

Your temps are indeed pretty high. I have a 8800GTS 320MB too and my idle temps are 56C (54C at best) with the fan speed dialed down to 80% with RivaTuner. Hottest temp i ever noticed was slightly over 70C during gaming, with fanspeed at 100%.

I have 2 extra 80mm's salvaged from my old Icute casing blowing at my card tho, but i've checked, only 2~3C difference without it.

What casing are you using?
