Hi all - i'm looking for a folding bike as well, plan to pick up cycling to keep fit smile.gif, my budget around RM 3k.

After google around, seems like Brompton is high recommended. However when i ask around, seems like it is out of stock and the waiting list is very long. So want to get this also hard, i need to move to next option.

So i need some advice, since Brompton is the best #1, what is the #2 or #3 brand to consider? The most important criteria for me is easy to fold and not too heavy, i'm just a small girl with 48kg.

I tried to read most of the recent posts as well, Tern, Dahon and Pikes was mentioned alot - any specific model that u can recommend me?

thanks so much!

There's no such thing as best #1, #2 & so on. When it comes to bicycle, it's always a balance between your budget & what you want. 3K will definitely not land you any Brompton but then again, if you're cycling to keep fit, I don't see how Brompton can be any better than the rest.

Wow the price for Brompton really double the price of Tern. What makes it so special?

Wow how many bikes you have la?

By the way I wanna ask ah, when I change gear, some gear doesn’t seem to ‘latch”’, like I can pedal one cycle two cycle and the third cycle it’s like the gear doesn’t catch (no resistance) or that it skips? I don’t know how to explain but I have to adjust the gear either up or down. Or is it stuck in like half gear (like 3.5 instead of 3) that’s why it works like this? I don’t know. I don’t think its supposed to work like this?

From what I have read, the bicycles use premium parts eg. Brooks saddle, Schwalbe Marathon Racer and the bikes are hand-made in the UK itself. Seems like Brompton wants to be for folding bicycles like how BMW is for cars, Leica for cameras and Apple for computers.

if ur using normal gearing, then u need to tune ur rd. maybe the cable a bit stretch out.

if ur using internal hub gearing, need to adjust the clutch chain

both need some tuning only

Most likely the RD requires some tuning to the H & L screws. Easier to just send it back to the shop for tuning since it's still new.

Hey guys, for the default tern pedals. Do they lock the cycling shoes or I need to change them? Thinking to invest in one so that I can ride better also

They don't. If you want to invest in clipless pedals, you can choose either roadbike or mountain bike type.

if ur planning on easy walking, its good to used mtb cleat pedal. buy dual platform (some said dua alam). both cleat shoe and normal shoe can be used.

also, easy to walk with mtb shoe compare to slippery road shoe

i had this bike before (v brake version).

it's comfortable to ride, but downside is heavy, it's still using freewheel instead of using freehub wheelset.

i would suggest rifle r8 in 1.5k+ range
