Ok, just got back from Midvalley.

Went to both Best Denki and Harvey Norman just now.

I feel that Sharp Aquos LC32A53M might be the right choice. Very2 nice movement in the screen, cheerleaders holding pom - poms oso very nice, only extremely minimal ghosting, which I presume is due the LCD is not tuned to it's utmost potential. Although the Sharp's price is over RM 3k, but I feel that it's worth it. Plus plenty of reviews here saying Sharp Aquos LCDs are also nice for Astro ( got one S Video input too ), presume should be nice for DVD as well ( the promo was from DVD, plugging into HDMI slot ).

But haven't got the chance to check out Panasonic TX32LX700MK. Saw one Panasonic both at Best Denki and Harvey Norman, both the model name was missing the K alphabet, so I'm not sure lah. Of course, will only buy later ( when my pockets are finally able to pay one of 'em cash ) at smaller shops for better pricing lah. I hope before the end of June can buy one.

But will keep my eyes open since there's about 4 - 5 months away, so prices of current choices should go lower, or maybe newer, better models with similar current pricing! smile.gif

i think go to shop and look for yourself is better. like me been looking every shop for about a month and finally decide that all panels looks the same to me and settle on the Sony 32S310A which is on promotion.

LOL then u will have a bigger problem and regret when u purchased the LCD then, u might have to stick back with crt -

Since u mentioned monster cable, most probably u purchased from harvey norman, but which outlet u have purchased from, u might wan to get some help from someone may concern? And afterall have u done any setting and colour adjustment, for ur most watchable and favor of all time channel in astro? And remember to off all the Mpeg-NR or something to do with NR stuff (NR = noise reduction)

haha.... quite pro ar u.... yeah.. i bought from harvey norman.... at Aeon jusco bukit tinggi klang....
bought for rm5k.... yeah.. quite expensive.. but that was a month ago... n with interest free 12 months...
comes along with free monster cleaning kit.... free pioneer hdmi cable
along with the tv... i also bought the monster s-video cable n pioneer dvd player... both i got for very very SPECIAL price.... hehe tongue.gif

but then again... on astro, nothing beats the CRT la... my dad complaining to me alrd cos the CRT cheaper but clearer for astro... i also got nothing to say cos i promise him that plasma plays astro nicely.... blush.gif

so.... again... i would say that buying monster s-video cable does help compared to normal s-video cable.. but then.... not worth the price cos no matter wat.... it will not be as clear as CRT.... smile.gif

i contacted harvey norman alrd... they asked me to return the s-video cable n they will give me a new one... (excellent service-worth paying extra for sometimes)... n if the problem still persist, they will come to the house n check for me...

thanks for the tip jasjas, i will try with the NR thing... see how it goes... thumbup.gif

DO some colour adjustment as well, try this setting at 60-75 for contrast, 40-45 brightness and 40-55 colour, put cool for colour temp, sharpness remain for the same ( u cant put default as u seen at display due to the lighting in there and ur house are different especially the higher contrast/brightness, the more obvious u can see the astro's pixel ) and remember to off the all the NR stuff, It is just my suggestion only as afterall the colour setting is based on ur room's ligthing condition and types of the astro channel you r viewing but still that's what i typically tune for my customers and even for myself......hope it helps...

If u dont plan to get monster cable - as long as well known branded cable will do (around rm 50 - rm 120, monster is at rm 160 and above) , dont buy china brand even u see gold plated (rm20 - rm 60 ).... It make a lot different as i have compared them.....

just for anyone - u might want to hit some small shop for good budget but make sure they are well known with their services... I have seen a shop in pudu resisted to help when his customer's panny plasma got "shadow image" (deflection), the shop's technician claimed to be astro faulty doh.gif

For decent performance, I will recommend PHILIPS component cable, around RM 150-200..

Maybe if you can add another RM100, you can get a HDMI DVD player and a HDMI cable. icon_idea.gif

Go get any cheap component cable first. Im sure the picture is much2 better.
The rule of thumb is RM10 S-Video is better than RM1000 composite, RM10 component is better than RM1000 S-Video, and RM10 HDMI is better than RM1000 component.

Wacko, where did you purchase your Sharp LCD? How much, cash or CC? What about warranty? I don't know much, but what I read here for Astro, try to use S - Video cable for better picture.

Maybe you can ask you Astro installer to retune the dish, and get the reading ( sorry I forgot what it is called, it's the graph that shows signal strength ) to above 90. What a friend of mine who works at Astro told me, normally most installers only try to get between 70 - 78 signal strength only ( my personal experience, saw three installers, and they all do the same, the most I've seen is 78 ), which is barely enough to get the best reception.

He also recommended me to look for an Astro installer who can align the dish so that the reception strength is at least 85, if can get more than that, much better, especially during windy days ( a problem for high - rise homes ) and rain.

Have you tried to tune the LCD tv yourself? Check this link out : Cnet Asia LCD TV Tuning Tips and try it out. Don't forget to "tune" the room where the LCD tv is placed, like lighting, shades for the windows ( if any ) etc.

After I read some many articles and forum posted by various users, mostly said it is the Astro signal (source) of non-HD that causing the 'unclear' picture in LCD, not because of the signal strength itself. There is no way to have good Astro PQ like in CRT currently whatever we do. Correct me if I am wrong.

Btw, does signal strength affect a lot on the PQ?

Just a newbie in this area. Please correct and enlighten me.
Thanks.

Oh, I think the tone in my previous reply is wrong. I was talking about Astro's reception problem ( especially when windy days and rain ) only. Sorry again. Astro signal is non - HD, even SG not going full HD signal yet.
