Fellas, is the LG 32LC7R a nice LCD tv to buy? It'll be my 1st LCD tv purchase. I might buy the PS3 at the same time as well ( latest Gran Turismo coming soon mah! ), so will this LCD tv work well for PS3? What about local tv? I saw the ad here : eWarehouse LG 32LC7R advertisement. The pricing is extremely attractive!

I need to buy really good HDMI cables, and other cables to connect Astro set to TV too right? Any good brands to consider? And where is this Legend SS2 shop you guys are talking about? Must be hell of a big electrical shop eh?

Aiyoyoyo...cool down fellas. No need to get angry and worked up over small things like that. I don't think any sellers would want the customers to know the base price mah right? So chill, everybody shake each toehr's hand mah, CNY coming mah.

Anyway, anyone can recommend me nice 32inch LCD tv? I am really a noob. Some ppl say 100hz LCDs is good, some ppl say no need. I've went thru plenty of large shops selling LCDs like Harvey Norman and Best Denki, but they all just show DVDs and not Astro...haihs.

Is Toshiba Regza 32WL68E a good purchase too ( I'm not really that good in electrical items, like everyone else, I always think Sony is the best. Stupid me, looks like for the top end LCD / Plasma, it's always Pioneer and Sharp. )?

What about Sharp Aquos LC32A53M, and LC32BX5M?

Like others, I use for all : Astro, DVD / CD and gaming ( now PS2, later go PS3....GT5 is coming mah!!!!! ).

So is the Sharp LC32A53M a good purchase for me then? I don't know the actual contrast ratio, and response time for this LCD. Do I really have to spring out for a 100hz LCD to get the best out of the LCD when watching auto racing ( Like MotoGP, WTCC and F1 @ Astro ) and playing games like GT? Does the Sharp LC32BX5M offers 100hz too, but what about the actual contrast and response time?

What about LG 32LC7R, Sharp Aquos LC32A53M, and LC32BX5M, and Toshiba Regza 32A3500E?

Anyone else can chime in?

QUOTE(jasjas @ Feb 4 2008, 06:48 PM)
astro : plasma for good choice but if 32" plasma, i wouldnt recommend for 32" plasma as it's panel only SD standard (aint HD) so since u r getting 32" it would not be so obvious to see the different when it comes to astro and since u are going gaming for ps3 especially GT5, to avoid any problem with time response or blur image, i would recommend u any lcd with 100hz, mostly Sharp Aquos since they are the cheapest for 100hz of all brand
(i did read that they were one of the bunch of the 100hz lcd founder, maybe that's one of the reason -correct me if i m wrong because i m not sure)

edit :

but still 32" is still way to sense all the problems, unless u plan for 37" and above, it will be more obvious - so depends on your budget, toshiba is good when it comes to the colour, more natural and less colour glaring comparing to samsung/philip/etc - good for your eye especially if u r a hardcore gamer, and apparently both sharp and toshi comes with additional warranty and risk insurance as their promotion, and a free s-video+audio cable from toshi which u can find inside their box.....

so the choice is urs and good luck

If you want to check out difference between the Sharp models, you're in luck.  smile.gif  Went to Midvalley Harvey at lower ground floor and they use blu-ray player to play same BD video on three different Sharp lcds models (via HDMI video splitter). They've got 100Mhz lah vs hd ready vs full hd.

I got this from the Best HDMI DVD Player, page 99 :

QUOTE(KCv3 @ Jan 22 2008, 11:52 PM )
I heard that A53M is really good on Astro compare to the rest. But when on DVD & Blu-Ray, I discovered this model is really bad in terms of PQ and colour. Watching it side by side with others like Philip 9432, Sony D300 and Panny 700MK, these 3 models are great . My personal view is that the Sony model is the most well balanced when comes to PQ and colour. Some say it look cartoon, not sure what it means tho. Now contemplating whether to change since my initial thought was A53M. Will be using it mostly on DVD and console games. Any of you guys got any inputs or comparisons on these models?

Don't tell me what he says is true ( that the A53M series from Sharp, the LC32A53M is in my list, not nice enough for DVDs and Blu Ray )?

Ok, just got back from Midvalley.

Went to both Best Denki and Harvey Norman just now.

I feel that Sharp Aquos LC32A53M might be the right choice. Very2 nice movement in the screen, cheerleaders holding pom - poms oso very nice, only extremely minimal ghosting, which I presume is due the LCD is not tuned to it's utmost potential. Although the Sharp's price is over RM 3k, but I feel that it's worth it. Plus plenty of reviews here saying Sharp Aquos LCDs are also nice for Astro ( got one S Video input too ), presume should be nice for DVD as well ( the promo was from DVD, plugging into HDMI slot ).

But haven't got the chance to check out Panasonic TX32LX700MK. Saw one Panasonic both at Best Denki and Harvey Norman, both the model name was missing the K alphabet, so I'm not sure lah. Of course, will only buy later ( when my pockets are finally able to pay one of 'em cash ) at smaller shops for better pricing lah. I hope before the end of June can buy one.

But will keep my eyes open since there's about 4 - 5 months away, so prices of current choices should go lower, or maybe newer, better models with similar current pricing! smile.gif

i think go to shop and look for yourself is better. like me been looking every shop for about a month and finally decide that all panels looks the same to me and settle on the Sony 32S310A which is on promotion.

Hi!

Just brought Sharp 32 A53M... so far ok the quality.. but due to my old dvd player.. i can't attached the HDMI cable.. so PQ is abit down.. got noise.. colour still ok.. the sales person advice me to buy component cable... (RGB) to have better vision...

So is it true if i add in component cable it will improve the PQ? How much it cost ar...?

Wacko, where did you purchase your Sharp LCD? How much, cash or CC? What about warranty? I don't know much, but what I read here for Astro, try to use S - Video cable for better picture.

Maybe you can ask you Astro installer to retune the dish, and get the reading ( sorry I forgot what it is called, it's the graph that shows signal strength ) to above 90. What a friend of mine who works at Astro told me, normally most installers only try to get between 70 - 78 signal strength only ( my personal experience, saw three installers, and they all do the same, the most I've seen is 78 ), which is barely enough to get the best reception.

He also recommended me to look for an Astro installer who can align the dish so that the reception strength is at least 85, if can get more than that, much better, especially during windy days ( a problem for high - rise homes ) and rain.

Have you tried to tune the LCD tv yourself? Check this link out : Cnet Asia LCD TV Tuning Tips and try it out. Don't forget to "tune" the room where the LCD tv is placed, like lighting, shades for the windows ( if any ) etc.

Oh, I think the tone in my previous reply is wrong. I was talking about Astro's reception problem ( especially when windy days and rain ) only. Sorry again. Astro signal is non - HD, even SG not going full HD signal yet.

QUOTE(cherroy @ Feb 6 2008, 08:09 PM)
After I read some many articles and forum posted by various users, mostly said it is the Astro signal (source) of non-HD that causing the 'unclear' picture in LCD, not because of the signal strength itself. There is no way to have good Astro PQ like in CRT currently whatever we do. Correct me if I am wrong.

Btw, does signal strength affect a lot on the PQ?

Just a newbie in this area. Please correct and enlighten me.
Thanks.

Well, you have to understand, now there's too many Astro installers in Central KL alone ( we're not even talking about Wilayah Persekutuan yet! ). Some installers even do installs until 10pm! Maybe it's due to now, the commission they get is very low. Previously it'll cost over RM 300, not including of install charges ( last time between RM 100 - 150 for apartments / condos ), nowadays it alot cheaper, hence the commission is lower perhaps?

So what they do is come by your house, take everything off, drill the hole for the dish mounting 1st, and install the dish ( the initial hard work ), then plug in the decoder to both the dish and TV, then the hardest job is to get the signal. Some installers use some sort of oscilloscope to get the strongest signal location. My 1st Astro install back in 2001, fella used this osciloscope and the signal strength was a nice 78, even during very windy days and light rains, signal is not affected.

After get the best dish location, only then they'll fix the dish 100%. Sadly, most Astro installers nowadays do not use this oscilloscope, hence signal loss during windy days and rain ( a real problem for high - rise homes ). To gain the best signal strength, installer must use an oscilloscope and need plenty of time setting the dish right, so that's why nowadays a lot of Astro installers don't use this tool : takes time and is costly. They just simply adjust until get around high 60's to low 70's, then done.

No, signal strength do not affect quality of the broadcast I think.

Still on the topic of Astro installers, those ads we see at road sides, at your apartment's lift etc, are those 100% genuine Astro installer? Today read int he newspaper, Astro placed a notice that those installers are not authorised ( then how la they get those dish, decoder, smart card and you get your bill the next month la? ), so if you get your Astro thru them, Astro will not honour damage claims etc. Haihs.

i seriously didnt know about this... n i just checked my signal n i only got a 65!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stupid astro ppl... so lazy... so wat do i do now? can i call them n tell them i am not satisfied with the reception? they will send their men to check on my house for free rite?  tongue.gif

all this while i was thinking it was my tv sommo....

u sure the signal plays an important role in terms of the quality of the broadcast??  blush.gif

Thanks Wacko_joy, seems like the L shop very popular wan. That's a good price for a nice Sharp Aquos 100hz LCD, since shops like Best Denki etc put RM 3600.00. Maybe by May price will go to RM 2600.00? Hehehe. Didn't get any freebies ke?

QUOTE(wacko_joy @ Feb 7 2008, 01:30 PM)
L shop... RM29XX-Cash. Warranty 1year only.

Added on February 7, 2008, 2:10 pmDo try and see prices from ewarehouse, adrian and htkaki, see if they can counter. Since you're buying such a large plasma, are you upgrading your DVD player to those upscaling units too? Shops like the L shop may be able to offer you a much better price if you bundle stuffs together. If not, try and see prices from the three fellas. Htkaki I know will deliver by hand ( if you're in KL ), adrian not sure. ewarehouse I think deliver by courier ( I could be wrong here, only stating info from what I read around Lowyat ).

Wah, RM 2399.00, that is pretty cheap. Looks like prices for LCD tv's are dropping fast!

Errr. I am surprised because I don't know how much smaller shops are selling the same LCD tv. I'm not doing HT for a business, so I dunno. Forgive my noobiness la.

If it's really RM 2399.00, that way too fast for the price to drop, wacko_joy bought the same LCD over at L shop for almost RM3k earlier this month.

Yah bro, I am shocked as well. Right after two weeks perios ( or maybe less than that ), price drop from RM 29++ to RM 2399, that's about RM600+- difference, way too much. But dunno, maybe this Trinitron fella goes to L shop on a weekly basis kot.

QUOTE(radiohead @ Feb 15 2008, 04:08 PM)
wat???!! sharp 32 AX53M RM2399!?? in just 1 week?
sure kah?

Seriously if it's that cheap, must be a good reason why. But I think only Sharp and Panny offer 100Hz LCDs, no toher competitors, no? And I don't recall Sharp coming with newer 32" LCD models right?

Anyhow, I could be wrong, so forgive me in advance for I am a noobie.
