The limiter is so amazing, works very well with my passive bass, now slap pops are so much more sweeter than ever smile.gif. The low end is amazing also, very deep lows, and very crisp highs. The EQ is very sensitive and easy to fine tune the right EQ settings. Thanks a lot man smile.gif.

U're still in singapore ar? Wanna buy the hartke bass attack eh, hehe smile.gif.

davidgary, is dipping the entire string into methylated spirit a better idea than boiling? Gets rid of most dead skin, daki, and all those gross stuffs.

Anyone here tried before?

QUOTE(lordie @ Feb 27 2009, 12:40 PM)
well its hard to cut thru the mix with a V or a smiley. for me i do the sad.gif . a reverse smiley at worse case on the amp or set flat.

especially with cardiac necropsy, 2 heavily scooped guitard, i got lost in the mix all the time. so a reverse smiley on my eq pedals works well for the mid growl
*
Haha, lordie, i noticed that reverse smiley on ur amp when i went to pick it up the other time.

i do boost both the low 80Hz and the 120 Hz, cut a lot of 160Hz, boost a lot of those mid frequencies, up to near the max (coz i play with loud drummers all the time!) , cut a lot of high mids, and boost 10KHz quite a lot for more percussive slap pops smile.gif

ritters suck, can get from bentley.

CnB is a much better choice than ritters imo.

as good as Bently (service, prices, customer service)???!!!!!!
*
Chris, i used to have the same opinion as urs, being that bentley offer ridiculous customer service and prices, etc. Well, it's still about the same condition at the bukit bintang branch although they're slowly improving.

What surprised me the most was how warm and helpful the salespeople @ the mutiara damansara branch, when i went bass shopping a few weeks back. Very patient and understanding even though i took like almost an hour testing lots of their basses but ended up not buying anything, tongue.gif.

Prices were not bad too, vintage modified fretless jazz @ rm1250, amazing tone and feel, very good value. Too bad a bit out of my budget sad.gif.

RIP tonezone definitely, such a cozy place to try anything out, was at their clearance sale, too bad only had 1 bass left that time..

That bass's very tempting indeed, why only 1.3k?

The jazz 5 sounds good ar? Really curious, specs wise very tempting though..
Haha, i was soo looking forward to try your OLP out that day, but when i went there, it was missing! sad! sad.gif, was so close to getting that orange tony levin beauty tongue.gif.

Guys, wanna ask some question la

Would you guys recommend me a good 6 string bass for recording session? Actually I've been started to record n produce some stuff for some nasyeed project, so I really need a 6 string bass for my session work...prefer below RM4500..
*
Yeah i agree, TRBs rock sial, the tone can make me faint, still thinks TRBs like JP2 totally owns a stingray (only the ones that i tried la), now, don't make fun of me or call me names tongue.gif. Just an opinion, hehe.

chris! why?? do la, trujillo style tongue.gif. nah jk.

thalmes: Try a few more extreme positions, either, way up at the chest level (quite a lot of bassists do dat) or way down below your crotch. For your case, i think u would find it more comfortable putting it way low, coz putting it up only helps if u have problems with ur right hand technique, for most cases.

i think when practicing any material, always try both standing and sitting, if not, quite pointless if u can play slap pop like god sitting down but cant pop dat D string standing up..
now im having serious problems playing slap pop sitting down, too much stand up comedy i guess... sad.gif.

P.S, I saw a GnL tribute l2000 retail at around rm1800, worth it?

I have problems with upper frets all the time with my current bass position although it helps a lot with slap pop (same as your current setup), wat i do to fix that during the occasional higher octave grooves is put my right leg on an amp or monitor so that the bass can be elevated, helps a lot.

bend ur body as in bending forward/backward? I just realized dat sometimes I do bend backwards and lift my right leg a bit to reach those high notes.

haha, thanks for the replies, am in indonesia nw, i dun really mind the thick neck, but like u said, the tone is really thin compared to wat i heard from urs during the switchfoot concert, lacking of that growling awesomeness (I was standing right in front of the bass amp, hehe). For a moment i thought all that growl was from a sansamp tho, a good excuse for the plainness of the indonesian 1...

Btw, wat do u guys think of cort basses? Tried one of their swamp ash ones yesterday, wasn't too impressed with it, maybe it's just the action set too low, lots of buzzing, but cant set since the shop ppl are nt very nice ppl la..

Oh yea, tried a sr300, the tone is pure awesomeness for slap pop, but the fingerstyle tone is a bit so so, typical problem i have with active basses, and the neck is too thin fr my liking.. Which bass would be awesome fr harmonics and slap pop style yea?

thalmes: I do like fenders but the prices are too high for me, except if i can find a cheap second handed cij or mij fender jazz or smth, i will never ever settle for a mexican jazz tongue.gif..

btw guys, aguilar preamps including the tonehammer and obp 1, 2 and 3 are gonna be available in js music in april, but no idea exactly when, when ar?

If like that, wicks owner can have my service as well!  hmm.gif

Meanwhile, anybody here familiar with Sterling by Ernie Ball series? I only recently knew that OLP series also ceased production ( blush.gif ) and the Sterling series kinda like replace it.
*
The Ray series are very tempting... but SB series is just okok la.. Apparently Bentley is the main dealer for sterlings in malaysia, would love to check it out, but the US prices are very steep so far, the Ray series cost around 800USD, certainly way more expensive than OLPs..

btw, i find string conditioning tiring enough, how to wax the bass neck anyway? do you do it for maple neck as well?
