aiya a cable is a cable. So expensive for what?

I play with my china cable and with my guitarists monster cable totally no difference.
Totally agree with you. If i wanna buy expensive cable also, i look for the gaya gaya ones only... well not really, i look for ropes tongue.gif. Are ropes generally more durable than normal cables? My cables spoil so often, i need to look for really durable ones, not really good sounding ones, coz all that signal preservation watever nonsense really makes no sense to me whatsoever. So are ropes generally better? or u guys have any other Economical alternatives? smile.gif.

if you mean me, i only have planet waves cables ... been busy selling basses smile.gif ... sold off 3 basses already in the past 10 days, another 2 or 3 more to go ..

QUOTE(Bassraptor @ Dec 16 2007, 03:17 PM)

Well, I've been using Season 4 String bass guitar (a indonesia replica for Musicman SUB) for 6 years and I think its time for me to get a better one. Any suggestions?
Greetings! welcome welcome, smile.gif. We're all pretty adorable ppl, so u should enjoy ur time here. tongue.gif
Do look at Warwick Corvette Std, too bad the swee lee sale had just ended 2 weeks ago.. sad.gif. Don't worry, i missed it too.
Should be a great buy if u're getting it from singapore smile.gif.
Another alternative would be a typical fender P-bass, maybe a japanese made one. I'm not good at giving suggestions, but i tried my best tongue.gif, assuming u were once a musicman dude trying to look at the world in a different perspective smile.gif. Other threaders should have better suggestions, definitely, i'm absolutely inferior to all of them here smile.gif.

Ibanez BTB205? should fit pretty nicely in your budget and still have quite a few extra cash left tongue.gif. But for me, if i have rm2000, i wud wait to see if anyone is selling a second handed fender precision or a fender jazz smile.gif. do look at OLP also, they're really good, erm, well, some of them. I've tried one that is really really bad, one dat is OK, and one dat is really really good (so good, i almost accidentally took it back from the jam studio) tongue.gif. So make sure u try first. Do drop by @ JS music jalan imbi. The nicest music storepeople u will ever come across. smile.gif. I'm sure crazychris would testify to dat.

P.S. back to my question, are rope cables like fender rope generally better in terms of durability? Or do they make it just for show? tongue.gif.

Happy 2008 indeed, my fellow low end assasins tongue.gif.

May 2008 be a year where you receive lots of bassing goodies from your parents, loved ones, etc. May it be a year where all of your bass needs are met, especially in the area of tones, lines, techniques and stuffs. May you continue to find new possibilities in your daily GAS for newer and more different sounding stuffs than what you already have, even though you don't really need them. May all your strings stay intact, all your necks in proper bend, and all your fingers in one piece (as in, 5 left fingers, and at least 3 right fingers for obvious reasons). Have a great low end 2008 my dear low end sifus, even though u guys are extremely cruel in the area of intimidation.... I forgive yall, for it drives me to learn, learn, and LEARN! biggrin.gif. So, thanks guys, without u guys, how boring can bassing be? tongue.gif

is that the cheapest range? my bass is a 5 stringer. damn extra strings makes it more expensive to maintain rclxub.gif

anyway, time for me to get new strings already. mine totally sucky sound. other then DR, what else should i try out?
i've tried ernieball, d'addario, fender, goodstring (sweat.gif) .... any other brands?
*
im not sure if that's the cheapest range, but i consider that very cheap for a set of dr. the 5 string version would probably set u back around rm130. but it's definitely worth it. considering that im using a rm75 daddario prism that only sounds bright for a little less than a month. after that, dead strings, brader! if u dun mind dead strings like some of the forummers here, then go for daddario, no offence to bassix, the daddario fan tongue.gif.

dr's brightness would probably last more than 3 months, sometimes 6, reboiling it after that would return the brightness for another month or 2 months.

a lot of shops in malaysia dat don't have dr would recommend rottosound, anyone tried that before? they say it's quite good, rm90 for a 5 string set if im not mistaken.

well i dont mind dead sounding strings as long as they last. if i'm not mistaken, i bought my current strings in dec last year. that means they lasted me for about 10 good months before they started being unplayable. i guess if they last long its good. how long does DR's last? i dont mind trying. coz u never try, u never know right?

and btw, what do u mean by reboiling? really boil it? sweat.gif that sounds scary. i think u better teach me first before i attempt such things. haha.
rm75 for 4strings i assume? where did u buy it btw?
*
Boiling bass strings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st9i_0SVzHQ

well, if u dont mind dead strings, get a d'addario, lasts quite long, my previous prism lasted more than a year of constant playing until the A string gave way a day before a band competition, haha. And don't boil your strings, it only brings back the brightness at the cost of the strings' durability.

I'm not sure how long does a DR last though, but apparently they are known to be able to withstand very high amount of tension.

prism discontinued model already, if i'm not mistaken, but you can still find them in quite a number of music stores in malaysia.

they are wat d'addario call as the brightest strings on the market. well, after a week of usage it's definitely not tongue.gif.

btw, nimrod, have u sent ur bass to tham before? smile.gif wat bass are u using?

sent to tham? whats that? sorry ah abit noob.
me poor man. only got yamaha rbx 5stringer.

whats yours?
how come we dont have a picture collection for basses vmad.gif
*
walaueh, rbx 5 tali called poor, i lagi poor la, hehe. mine is a sx jazz bass, i think u can check out the flash us thread somewhere on the musician forum for some cuci mata or to generate some GAS.

tham is a guitar specialist (is he a luthier?), specializes mostly in fret leveling and refreting and all those bass/guitar setup stuff, coz i heard u wanna setup your bass? send to him, he's the preferred guy to do the job, search for his contact, should be able to find it somewhere in the forum.

Found a bass that looks like Fender ... Craftmens ... Around 600 bucks with a bag ~.~ ... Consider cheap ?
Sr300 ( Ibanez ) is quite good right ? Comes with D'Addario strings
*
Craftsmans are really good, tested 2 of the basses on sale at CK music, altho it lacks much of the fender traditional tone IMO, i find its tone a rather unique modern-tone like sound, wont compare it to my sx coz they both sound very different, but it sounds.. i can tell u.... awesome, easily better than my friend's ltd f5e (hehe, cannot compare passive and active eh?). i'm also planning to get one of these craftsman in 2 weeks' time, crazy promo nw in CK music, line6 lowdown studio 110 (75watts amp), the craftsman FJB105, korg tuner, gig bag, strap and cable, all for just rm1190.

SR300 is quite good, just a bit expensive tongue.gif

hey guyz,

reporting in for a quick question....a big fan of stingray but no dough to get it....so i'm asking about the OLP MM2?
how much is it?
how is it?
and where do i get it?

thx in advance
*
olp mm2 ar, shud be a bit pass rm1000 if i'm not mistaken, used to be can get from js music, nw dunno where to get, i dun think they carry olp anymore. some mm2s are good tho, but the one i tried, really disappointing... but im sure most of them sounds awesome, just i a bit unlucky

QUOTE(dlwl @ Nov 24 2008, 09:16 PM)
hi,
just curious, what does a bass effect pedal do? change the tone/sound of the bass?
*
a normal bass effect would just colorize the tone, not change it, but outboard or onboard preamps like audere, aguilar or sansamp do change the tone drastically, especially if u're using a passive bass, since they technically converts ur passive bass to an active one tongue.gif.

QUOTE(crazychris @ Nov 25 2008, 12:38 AM)

foogie: i tod u oredi hav a sansamp?

*
haha, made a mistake of researching too much until js music stopped carrying them the last time i went there to get it tongue.gif. was seriously thinking of an onboard preamp though, but to put on my sx? i was like, sigh.. maybe an outboard one wud be better, nw eyeing the aguilar biggrin.gif

QUOTE(dlwl @ Nov 26 2008, 12:26 AM)
wanna ask, what's the recommended bass that i can get for RM700-RM800? any cheaper than that also can. are 2nd hand bass buitars recommended?
*
craftsman jazz basses from ck music, too bad u missed out on their recent sale, u can get a very very good line6 75 watts amp along with the bass + gig bag+korg tuner+ cable and strap for just rm1050, i got it and, let me just say, the amp and the bass pair would easily beat a 100watter behringer or ibanez bass amp + sx bass.

for the bass itself would be around rm6xx smile.gif. the amp's original price is rm1050 though, but u can find online for rm850 around there.

i wud highly recommend the craftsman way more than the sx, although sx has much better build quality, the craftsman's sound pawns it easily.
