I have watch dogs legion on PS4, from the disc cover it stated “free upgrade to PS5”.

Does it means i can play watch dogs game on PS5 if i insert the PS4 game disc?

No, you download the PS5 version. If you just put the disc in, you'll still be playing the PS4 version.

The free upgrade to ps5 means this particular ps4 game will have its own ps5 version. Once you get your ps5 disc version, insert your dogs legion disc into it, the system will ask you to update the game. It will give your free dogs legion ps5 digital copy to download.

I got a reply too. I'm on the waiting list whatever that means. Order was placed 12pm sharp.

The waiting list means you will secure a unit automatically once 2nd round pre-order starts (in January some said).

I hope that 'free PS5 upgrade/version' means that it downloads PS5 specific files and updates the installed game. Like a smaller delta update.

But what you mentioned sounds like it's downloading a completely new version of a game just for PS5. If this is true then my plans to preload cyberpunk on PS4 > transfer to PS5 is pointless then

Yes. It's a full download. That's why I hold on the schedule on playing those games that will get free upgrade to PS5 version. For example, witcher 3. I don't want to play on half way, and then I need to download the PS5 version again, and then I need to start all over again since the PS4 version save files may not work with PS5 version (depends on game developers). So better wait for PS5 arrives then only start to play those "free upgrade to PS5 version" games.

It's pretty straight forward. The only downside is you need to waste couple of hours to download again if you have already downloaded the PS4 version.

IINM they retracted the update here due to 4K/120 blurring/eARC issues that came with the update. Another update is coming, no ETA. But according to one Italian forum that has the ‘internal’ info, if it’s to be believed, the new update would come in 2 weeks time.
