Why would you do that? Dead launch day consoles aren't uncommon. Revised console doesn't mean there won't be another issue.

More importantly I'm skeptical the foam they put around the APU would last years without eroding with all that heat and the humidity in some countries (oh wait, that's us!!).

Once that foam starts eroding, the liquid metal can leak out and if it touches any conductive area, it's gg PS5.

Good, but that's because I use nail polish and electrical tape. There's zero chance of leaking because unlike Sony, I only put 1 drop - the size of half a pearl rice grain.

From all the teardowns I've seen, there's so much LM that has been applied on the PS5 which is a little mind blowing to me. The LM should NOT be sloshing around after removing the heatsink, but on the PS5 it does.

Yeah here's hoping they've gone through the right tests for nothing to happen in the future. With regular thermal paste, the only point of failure is it dries up and the worst that could happen is the PS4 shuts down. LM doesn't dry up especially with heat, there's always going to be a point of failure with it if not insulated properly and the worst that could happen is turning the system into a paperweight.

They work yes, as long as they are officially licensed.

Arcade sticks that uses brook PCBs however are not licensed, so it's up to Brook to issue a firmware update (which I'm sure they will).

Mini, RAP Kai, RAP N and Fighting Edge yes.

Nope. It may work for 15 minutes and then you'll run into the dreaded timeout issue.

RAP 3 runs on a different firmware than the RAP V/Kai/N PCBs.

Only reason why they aren't in trouble is because everyone who bought from them doesn't know their rights nor do they know how consumer law works in malaysia.

I was already in the business of game sales during the time GH just started as a small fry in LYN in 2007. They have learned to twist the law because they know consumers don't know better.

^Pay special attention to the underlined sentence as the seller (Gamers Hideout) did not in any form, time or matter mention the PWP stipulations to the buyer(s) PRIOR to the opening for the PS5 pre-order.

There is also another law they broke with regards to shipping. All forms of shipping must be specified and cannot in any way use the term "Special". So whatever their "special CMCO shipping" is without specification, that is indeed breaking the law.

But of course, who wants to report them and bring them to court? Typical mentality is - aiyah it's just video games, don't think anybody gives 2 fucks about going through all the hassle to deal with bringing them to justice.

No, you download the PS5 version. If you just put the disc in, you'll still be playing the PS4 version.

Seems like digital edition SKUs are getting disc edition models, starting to become common.

Those who got it saved themselves quite a bit of money.

So many speculations on this thread, most of which all based on guessing. Sorry to say, but you guys don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Be in this industry for a while and you'll understand what you see on the surface is the total opposite of what's happening underneath it.

The entire global launch within this year is in the same production cycle, including Malaysia. Don't think Sony has made any revisions to the hardware yet and even if they did, you won't see those units until sometime late in 2021.

Every PlayStation before had a minor hardware revision only after a year of launch. Same goes to pretty much every console ever made. Don't see why or how that's changing, considering there's a pandemic going on.

The difference this time is that if your launch day console were to fail, there are no replacements for you - not immediately at least. Warranty is just a superficial statement.

That may be firmware fixable.

But certain things, like coil whine cannot.
Here's an example of the dumb things Sony didn't contract whoever their PSU OEM was to do:



Not even basic hot glue on the copper coils? They're basically naked and under high loads (which will be common), will vibrate so much and you'll hear that dreaded buzzing/whining. EVERY PS5 will suffer with coil whine, until they do something about it. This can't be fixed with a firmware. Then on to the noise the chokes for the APU which will also whine.

I'm not in panic mode, I read the problems because I like digging into flaws to expose the hardware. Indeed, the people with problems are the people who are the loudest.
As it stands, the issues are of course still a minority but I'm not talking about the number of issues, I'm looking deeper than that.

Let's take an example, the people having forced database rebuilds all stem from one particular game: Call of Duty Cold War. So the question is, why? Not how many is facing the issue. Why is CODCW only causing this issue and not any other PS5 game?

If you actually did read the thread and many of the reddit threads, you'll notice that the complaints are all very similar to one another - they are consistent. This goes the same for other issues as well.
