I was reading some stuff on the SSD for Macbook and seem there is a life span of only 5 years or SSD worn from swapping/copying huge data (250GB - 150TDW / 500GB - 300TDW). Whichever come first. As my understanding, once the SSD fails, the MacBook is bricked since no external bootable device able to boot it up with apple security lock down.

Which got me concern, since the SSD chip is soldered on the mainboard and is proprietary. This also will make me think twice to backup my iPhone to this MacBook. Is there any third party can fix and replace the M1 ssd? If yes, any idea how much it cost?

Found a source in Lowyat Plaza KL. Good news is possible to replace the soldered SSD for the M1. Bad new is the price will cost you about RM1.4k. moneyflies.gif

no issue so far for me. i think the "lifespan" concern is just over-worries.

I agree. Actually it takes a daily more than normal usage to hit the MTBF. either you using your mba as server or you daily doing disk benchmark.

So for me if your mba more than 5 years, you actually pay off the investment of using mba. time to tech refresh cool2.gif

Only the demo models are not covered by any warranty. The warranty for this model still intact since its unactivated. AppleCare+ for this model is bloody expensive. Still considering to purchase.

Anyway im letting go my MBA M1 16/256 Gold for rm3k if anyone came across this post. Will update in garage sales soon.

negotiable? may i know more details?

Hi. Getting a M1 MBA soon.

Planning to buy the Ugreen 100W GaN charger with 100W cable, and a 7in1 USB-C Hub from Ugreen as well with the PD100W.

If I am to charge it via the PD100W, without using the original charger and cable, should be ok, right?

No problem, I occasionally charge my MBA M1 with Baseus 100W charger and any cable within reach.

Can reach out to iboff mat on fb, this price as ot march 2024:

8TB / 4TB / 2TB / 1TB SSD Storage Upgrade for M3 / M2 / M1 / Ultra / Max / Pro
.....
.....
M1 / M2 / M3 :
500GB RM950
1TB RM1050 (retail RM1600)
2TB RM1599 (retail RM3200)
.....
M1 Pro/Max, M2 Pro/Max, M3 Pro/Max / Ultra:
1TB RM1599
2TB RM1899 (retail RM2400)
4TB need to inquire
8TB need to inquire
.....
SSD lama kita akan buat KEYCHAIN(while stock last - gambar)
....
FAQ:
Ini ikut pengalaman kita for the past 6 months. Kalau guna 4 NAND atau 8 NAND, lagi banyak NAND guna & nak solder, lagi mahal lah harga.
....
Tiada flux residue, loose components etc.
.....
.....
9. Boleh tanya untuk kita tambah.

sent my mac to the service centre, let them diagnose and fix it.
just changed my battery and the mac randomly bootup, every single time after you have shut it down completely, and then it started draining battery, so something wrong somewhere.
*
Just to update, got my macbook back after leaving in the service centre for about 3 to 4 weeks.
parts replaced:
1) Logic board
2) Touch ID
3) Audio board
4) Display assembly
5) Battery pack

they informed me that the parts replaced close to 6k, even more expensive than a new M1 Macbook.

If you can get it new for RM3000 or less, I think it's worth it. I'm still using mine from 2021.

Just got one for my neighbour a few days ago.
