True but I tend to operate the baby on the lower side of the permissible range. Talking about the cooler, anybody has the temperature statistics - with and without cooler?

FYI: Just to update on my tx1316au missing wifi problem.

Went to HP service center @2pm.

Told the person who serviced my notebook what I tried.
Ie. reset software to factory settings, update latest wifi driver from HP site, update latest nforce chipset driver from HP site, update to generic nvidia chipset driver. All to no avail. Wifi still intermittently/frequently missing.

The guy din't talk much. He says he take it back to check. Comes back maybe 15mins later and it's fixed.
He only says that he removed all drivers and installed again.

I tested maybe 1 hour plus there. Playing CS to heat it up then switch off a few minutes let it cool down. Done a few cycles. And sure enuf the wifi dont go missing anymore.

I'm starting to wonder if he only just update driver.
On closer examination. The harddisk, ram screws were looser than I remember. removing the battery I notice a new warranty sticker. Which means he opened up the unit.
Going to the BIOS the S/N and UUID no longer there. All zeros now.
So to conclude he either flashed the Rom or changed motherboard altogether.

I'm just curious why he just tell me he update driver everything ok.

Anyhow am glad that they fixed it there and then. Hopefully it remains fixed this time. no doubt I'll have to add additional fans for better cooling to make it last.

i think if u do it often enuf 15 mins is more than enuf to change mobo. It takes time coz they normally work on other equipment in queue.

I nearly joined the queue again except that i ask to see the person who fix my unit and showed my previous service sheet.

Service personnel are good. They can 'talk' and are helpful. Either way I'm hoping by a miracle I will not face any further problems.....

While I was there...chatted with another guy with Compaq notebook Intel based also notebook blackout would not start.
Saw 2 other tx1000 series for service there. If I were not busy with heat cycling my unit would have chatted with them to know what problem they had.

I think they have their procedures to go through. Just send in your unit for repair. You might try and wait for a technician to service you or just leave your notebook there.

The first time I went I just went to the fast drop off coz it was about closing already. If you maybe go there lunchtime or earlier and are prepared to wait. There might be a chance that they might be able to fix it for you there and then... I still am not certain what they did. Either flash bios or totally changed mobo. I think they changed my mobo. So it's running fine now. But like I said...they don't say much of what they did to my unit.

First time I send it in. They say have to wait for new mobo to arrive. so it took sometime. Today... was instant !!! :-)

Good Luck....

Oh... ya it's the Bukit Damansara Service Center.

P/S it's quite packed during lunchtime so go earlier

think they open 10am to 6pm... maybe open earlier.
Procedure??? well, go there park at their free car park. on entrance click submit equipment on terminal to get a number. Choose a nice seat with table then wait. Maybe get some free coffee(i think). Think they'll be a staff roaming around checking on customers. Depending on how busy their technicians are he'll probably ask you to leaf your notebook at fast drop off counter. Or you can go to the fast drop off counter yourself if u dun want to wait. Best if you can see a technician and explain things. There's a chance he just fix it there and then ....maybe.....

Quite a comfy place to wait if you got nowhere else to be.....

can sum1 pls help the menu path in vista to check the mic volume? I am oversea now and my own laptop is running XP. its hard for me to imagine the Vista menu path to check the mic volume.

1 thing is hope is better, HP service. they should have a service center that open 7 days in popular IT center like Digital Mall or Low Yat plaza. just to do collection and delivery. I gotta go all the way to Pusat Bandar Damansara and its Mon - Fri office hour....!!!

Q1: Is your built-in mic working?
Q2: Is your jack-in mic working?
Q3: Which version of SkyPe you are using?

For SkyPe, I think it works for most versions:

1. From menu option, select Tools->Options->Audio Settings
2. Uncheck automatic adjust microphone settings option
3. Slide the microphone sensitivity bar to your comfort level
4. Advisable if you use headset with microphone option for this

dun know where u enter from.but the car park is just outside the service center. as u turn into the buildings u see the open air pay car park barriers. don go there follow the signs slowly. u turn right. then dont go down to basement. take the road a bit to the right of road down to basement. its like u trying to go behind the building at road level. follow road slightly further and you should see car parks there. which is right in front of service center entrance. as u enter the fast drop off is the first counter u see.

.
Other news on my audio. Plug in to microphone jack. it works. but the onboard microphone dont work at all... must have forgot to plug that in.

Think i wont bother as mic jack work. is okay with me.... at the moment.... When really nothing better to do I'll pop down and get them to plug onboard mic in.

So Its better to check everything is still working...webcam. infrared control, touchscreen, etc etc.... u never know what else they might forget.

one of those thing i hate abt sending things for warranty claim or repair. one thing get repaired another goes bad. Also the HP service center operating hour dont help either.

that's why... get the extended warranty.

actually I have reservations about buying warranty next time.coz if the design is faulty its not gonna last long even after being fixed. Which makes the notebook useless to me at least. I'll probably shift back to doing stuff on my desktop or buy another notebook/brand. the amount of HP/Compaq notebook sent in for warranty scares me.

currently enjoying the form factor of eeepc901 runs cool, light, >4hrs on batteries. SLightly slower but good enuf to take over the Virtual Machine I run on the tx1316au.
I think for portability wise I'll stick to netbooks. No wonder they're so popular.

i think that extended is important. when u buy anything, u are not sure of the quality. the extended warraty will be able to take care of any surprise later.

this HP service level is pretty bad la... i buy that extended warranty. I was told i will get a letter from HP to confirm. I got nothing. I go to HP MY website to put in a complaint but nothing happen. I gotta go to HP Golbal website, write a nasty complaint and sum1 fr India call to confirm my extended warranty.

sori to say this la but wif the service center opening hour, the extended serivce confirmation, my TX prob... its safe to say my TX will be my first and only HP product.

To me, extended or not - depends on you? Is the extended warranty transferrable if you decided to sell the unit while it is still under coverage?

For me, when I buy or invest on an equipment, I will set the duration for its useful life span. Mind you, nothing will go on forever. Once it has passed its "useful" or "estimated" lifespan, I don't feel much if it started to breakdown or not. Nevertheless, I'll still maintain it for longevity. My main concern is the data.. backup as much as possible externally.

If you use and maintain it diligently, 12 months warranty should suffice unless you got one from the "bad" batch.. That's our bad luck..
