For the price I would agree cannot complain much. Don't know about 12R, but with my 12Q I'm getting quite good bass. There's quite a bit of slam and impact. I believe EQ'ing helps and I've run the auto-EQ on the 12Q plus Audyssey on my receiver too and it has flattened out the response.

Of course I've not heard the SVS so I am very curious how much better it is. I do expect the SVS to go deeper and louder. Wondering if it is also cleaner hmm.gif

Aiyo R series don't have auto-EQ-la only used onkyo's audyssey. I think velo plays loud enuf but the bass is kinda loose (i.e. not as 'clean'?) & does not go as low as SVS

How do you find it after the Audyssey?

For me, after built in auto EQ got slight improvement. Run Audyssey some more improvement. Yes, still got some looseness in the bass but I reduced that using my home built 'subdude'. So after 2 rounds of EQ plus the 'subdude' the bass is better. In terms of reducing looseness the most effective is the 'subdude'.

I upgraded my old Onkyo 875 to a 876 last week.

I have to say the implementation of the Onkyo 876 is really great. The new options like ISF night/day/custom, they new Audyssey microphone, some new Audyssey (Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume) options are really great.

I also believe that the Reon bug for the colour space conversion is also fixed now. Really for the price range, the amount of options are really good.

For those who have displays that do not have grayscale adjustments, this is definately something to look seriously at. With the ISF controls you have custom grayscale for each input. I would recommend this amp for anyone with displays that have limited controls.

Also with the 2 HDMI output it is very flexible. You can choose to upscale thru one output and send the signal through in the other.

The new Audyssey microphone gets most of the speaker trims spot on, so further adjustments with the SPL meters are not really necessary. Also the sound seems more accurate post Audyssey.

Will update more as I spend more time with it.

Got time to spare? brows.gif Quite easy to get an idea how SVS sounds if you have auditioned SPL-1200Ultra or SPL-1200R. SVS has more headroom, tighter bass with lower freq. Both has almost identical slam power. Better still, come lah brows.gif

Yup the principles behind the subdude work. If you have the right materials at home, you can DIY your own. Might not be as good as the actual SubDude but at least it gives you a taste.

Selling it off to one of the forumers here. If he declines, then I will put it up, but someone else has asked for it also.

Again, the additional ISF and the improved microphone are really great. But the 875 is no slouch either.

My real surprise is the addition of the ISF features.

So how is the performance 875 vs 876? I meant the AQ.

Haven't really played too much. But I doubt I will hear too much differences. I think the new microphone just improves Audyssey accuracy due to its design. That makes the trims more accurate and the filtering more sound. Main reason for getting it was to get a AVR with 2 HDMI outs. The ISF capability is a bonus. So for those who have displays like the Sharp (no grayscale in the user menu and service menu grayscale adjustments flaky) and other displays (Panny, lower end Sony) this is a good additional. Now grayscale can be calibrated. Also has 6 gamma options!

No my current 876. My 875 has, since it was meant for European market. I believe the 876s only have switched power outlet for US versions.

Another question, what is the maximum temperature you have seen your onkyo go up to? I have see it up to 57C? Is this ok?

Read in some US forums that state that the sum of both temperatures should be below 60C, but I am getting both to be about 57C, 52C.

Just revisiting this issue of the temperature.

For me, running in 6-ohm mode and driving 4 ohm speakers cause the temp to rise to 57/52. Whereas using 4-ohm mode it is 46/44. Looks like I might be getting external fans since I prefer to run in 6-ohm mode since it sounds slightly better.

4ohm mode cuts the power to the speakers by almost half. My 875 and the 876 are not in an air conditioned room but on the top rack. Temperatures are similar almost steady at 57C. No problems so far. I believe with air condition they shd drop to 40C

From what I heard, you need to be careful abt running the amp in 6ohms mode, there is a possibility of damaged drivers, especially if u listen at reference volumes. The other possibility would be the AVR shutting itself off, the current draw might be too high and the AVR will go into protection mode.
