Public IP is used for hosting something and able to port forward outside your network. Most home users will not need it, and mainly use for CCTV.
I personally use it for my NAS file server and sync as fail-safe between my 2 houses. Although it is not a big deal, as i used private IP with mobile network, for the past 10years, maxis biz 68, digi infinite, and maxis prime together with zerotier.
But problem is i hate allo their reply way, they rejected my request with non sense TNC, worst which I saw at least 2 or 3 users here get the public IP, just in this thread.

City Broadband which among the few available ISPs available on Allo open network is still a smaller based ISP with fewer IP blocks assigned to them so dynamic public IP is very precious resource for them not to run out of it.

If you really need public/static IP can always consider Maxis/Celcom/DiGi/Astro or upcoming ViewQwest for residential plans. They should be able to provide without much issues.

No choice already signed.
Not which which ISP will be running with allo backbone other than Astro Broadband, which i suspect they are using CBB too.

Maybe Maxis, Celcom or DiGi Home Fibre Broadband?

Celcom Fibre, Digi Fibre

I don't see any ads or flyers in my area other than CBB & ABB.
Anyway if CBB insist not to give me public IP, no choice i will keep using it with zerotier for the next 2 years.

Any ISP, if you want to get at least 90% speed from your subscription package, must use a LAN connection instead of WIFI.
If you want to get highspeed internet on WIFI network, please buy your own router.
*
Actually I don't really agree.
AX router is not that expensive, and probably cheaper when they purchase with bulk quantities.

They should provide better router or subsidize for 1gbps plan.

If full speed must benchmark with LAN only, then i suppose they should provide network switch instead instead of wifi router.

For plan below 500mbps, i have no comment as wifi AC1200 should be reaching 866m, and technically able to reach 600m+.
If you want better router then that is your own business.

Weird, i think it not the router fault. Cos from my understanding, ppl using Tp-link C6 can hit 500Mbps. I am curious on some thing.

1.Do you know the reading of your fiber line?
2.Do you mind to share the speedtest screen shot?
3.Other than testing with your Intel AC9560, have you test with hp like Samsung S20 and above or Iphone 12 and above?
*
AC1200 can hit up to 600m from my test, but it had to just beside the router. I can say AC1200 can be stable below 400m.
400m+ basically you have to very near to the router, not practical way.

So far so good. Didn't have any slowdown or disconnected. It also has a better routing than TM.

Connection is ok for me.
But China routing for Allo is worst than TM.

Used 2 weeks, so far so good too.
Never feel disconnection.

Besides responds from the other thread, I've called their support line before (yeah, I am that desperate to have symmetry speed), and I've been told a subscriber need to have good reason to get public IP. I told him I have CCTV that requires port-forwarding, and I also have several other ports that required the same thing, and the guy said, those reasons are acceptable to get public IP.
*
CCTV will not be a good reason to request public IP from CBB.
If public IP is a must for you, try to apply business plan. I suspect CBB will allow public IP for certain plan, maybe 500m or 1gbps.

It is a joke.
I know peoples are getting Public IP earlier than this.
Now Allo only provide by subject to approval.

Allo will provide 2 devices (separate onu and router) or 1 device (all in 1)  to new customer? If customer want to use own router have to ask allo customer service to change the device to bridge function? The installer (who on-site to lay the fiber) able to change the device to bridge mode?  Thank you
*
2 devices.
But no need allo to set anything.
All settings are set into ONU.
Just turn on router as dynamic IP to ONU is done.

That means the pppoe dial up connection still done in onu? The “wan connection type”  in owned router just select “automatic IP”? By the way, I owned asus router, thanks again
*
There is no PPPOE in the router or ONU.
Inside the ONU, there is a 10 digit alphanumeric use to authenticate only.

That means they will not provide us the login credentials to dial up the internet connection? Like what unifi and time did….

Actually if you plug in PC directly to the ONU, you can online.

your PPPoe login credential can be found in ALLO website under your account > Profile but won't show the password.. Assuming ALLO holds it, doesn't want customer to fiddle with the ONU setting.
*
The PPPOE password only work if Allo provide you Public IP.
Public IP need get thru this method.
There is no PPPOE inside the ONU, as I have the password, I already checked all the setting.

Guys what should I tell them about my problem. I had called the CS also and they seem like not understand my question. I tell them when my internet connection is lost, the default gateway on the WAN port is unable to ping. But somehow they keep on asking me it's I want the username and password for the router or not. The 1st picture is when the internet is lost and the second one is after the connection is back. How can I tell them about my problem?  bangwall.gif

Update: I got a call from Allo and they told me that the IP address that I show above is wrong. They want me to configure it to 192.168.3.254. They told me that IP is the standard IP address from Allo. But did I misunderstand something or what? I have to configure the IP to where? This is how I explain to them before got the call.

Try another Lan cable for router and onu.

Hi to all you otaimers. Newbie here. I'm hoping to get help to decide which fibre provider to choose for my home.

Recently Allo was ready at my housing area in Ipoh and this is the first high speed broadband after more than 10 years using Streamyx. Before I manage to submit my application, I heard the news Unifi also just launched at my area and it's up to 500mbps.

If you were me, which one would you choose?
*
Normal browsing choose the cheapest one.
If need use public IP then unifi.

No public IP from ALLO ?  shocking.gif

Yes no public IP.
I know there are some persons got it in beginning, but now it is no longer provided.
You can subscribe business plan to get public IP which i think that is much cheaper solution than TM.

QUOTE(afif92 @ Oct 13 2021, 01:10 AM)
now unifi also not give public ip anymore to lower package (30,50 and 100) based on this post in the pdf (CGNAT_faq_community.pdf)
*
I noticed that news yesterday.
There is no more doubt to choose which plan, the cheapest one.

No problem with private IP, but will be much slower than public IP.
Old resources might no seed.
New resources usually fine,

Some older torrent for test.
Same torrent added the same time.
Public IP (unifi) vs private IP (cbb)

Top.
CCB will eventually finish the torrent. But much slower for older torrent because Nat'ed, so there will be lesser seed than public IP.
