How bad is Allo / City broadband right now ?

The customer service executive just actively discouraged me from taking Allo, telling me that there's latency, difficulty reaching international websites... how bad is  it, if you just want to use it for Netflix and Googling ?
*
Allo is not bad, except the CS.
For normal condition, allo is good enough.
No problem for surfing, youtube, google, fb.... even p2p downloading.
But if you are looking for something more advance, like asking public IP, changing DNS to 1.1.1.1, ipv6, lower ping for some services, you should find some other ISPs or VPN which can provide better and closer routing to your specific server.

I would rate them 7.5/10.

Do some research before you proceed buying one

I've seen lots of people buying RM100 ~ RM300 routers thinking it would solve their issue
Later, they blame the brand instead of themselves for not doing proper research whistling.gif

From my experience, any cheap router (RM100+) will do better than the ISP and especially TM one.
But, if you are expecting better speed, function and coverage, you shouldn't get the cheap one.

I never use ISP bundled router. The allo given one already throw aside since first day.

My friend installed the 500mbps package last week, they provide him with a Dlink DVG-F2452 router
He can easily reach full speed on 5ghz download, but upload speed stuck at around 30mbps
No problem hitting symmetric 500mbps on LAN
Changed to his own router, no idea what model as he hasn't replied yet (should be AX55/X20)
Full speed on everything

Either defect or change channel.
Anyway if already get AX router then just leave it.

I subscribe another maxis fibre thru allo backbone, which is giving 6 months free, which i found very worthy to sign.

Hi guys, no wonder....do you think it's worth to pay the RM100 for the public IP? (only for CCTV, been using it for 2 years). Or I just switch to Maxis broadband as I saw someone using Maxis still managed to get free public IP recently, but I'm not sure, seems the networking infrastructure around my area belongs to Allo.

One time payment, quite worth.
If you want free solution, get zerotier or some free vpn/cloud service.

Hey guys, I need some input from experienced ALLOWIFI/CITYBROADBAND users who have replaced the stock router
I spoke with their helpline and they mentioned that I have 2 options to use my own router

1. Let the BTU (modem) do the dialup (PPPoE) and manage DHCP (this is the stock configuration) - less favorable to me as I would prefer the router to do the heavy lifting because the new router is much better hardware (2 x ASUS RT-AX56U)
2. Let the router do the dialup (PPPoE) and manage DHCP so the BTU (modem) only does the fiber termination (translates the pulses of light that carry data over the fibre optic cables into electrical signals)

Is what the helpline agent saying true? I can pick between these 2?
*
I just changed the router by dynamic ip connect into BTU. No PPPOE involved.
I dont see any PPPOE option inside the BTU as well. The login use some 10-12 digit alphanumeric for authentication.

Or maybe we have different BTU.

The red box marks the BTU that they supplied. Quite small I say
The broadband is installed at my in-laws house in Ipoh on Monday 1st August 2022, driving there tonight so that's the best picture I can supply to you right now

wc_how is it the same as yours?

No idea. Never restart since public IP. But should be dynamic as the registration form is mentioned.

Nice thumbsup.gif

I was dilemma to apply this public IP.
Back to 1 year ago, i requested but rejected.
So i setup my NAS thru cloud so public IP is no longer needed.

After few consideration, i better take this offer fast as i afraid Allo CBB will retrieve this service.

Since i "paid" this, they cannot simply retrieve my service like TM unifi is doing, unless i am willing to terminate it.

My installation was done on 1st August 2022, spoke to their helpline am I eligible for the promotion of 100Mb/s @ RM89, they said no because I submitted my registration for 100Mb/s @ RM99

Felt unfair because my contract started on 1 August 2022 sweat.gif
*
yup. allo after-sales are terrible.
my friend signed 2nd day want upgrade also hard. cannot go thru the sign up agent, and need wait from CS.

if they allow existing customer to upgrade with promo, i don't mind reset my contract.
