I just built a feker ik75. Great for the price.
1. Dont expect it flexi soft typing experience. Although, with the included PC plate and no standoffs, theres a very slight improvement there.
2. North facing led. Using oem profile now, and I confirm that I still prefer cherry.
3. Very muted with all the foam, but thats fine for me cause I use silent switches.
4. Biggest problem with this kit is the software. Cant change any layer 1 keys. Cant even add printscreen as its not in the options. Ended up using winaltS. If you want macros, you have to sacrifice a key on layer 0. I requested a json or hex file to see if i can sideload that into via. No reply yet.
5. Happy to report that fps gaming on 2.4kHz is feasible. So far experienced 2 split second lag in game. If wired is 100, on 2.4 this is a 98.

I think its good for the price only if you use it as is without changing the layout too much.

Any good budget mkb? my niece is looking.

i don't think she will mind a tenkeyless. any recommendations?

i also haven't kept up with the latest news. whats the best switches to recommend. cherry mx brown?

Keychron K4 v2 or RK100 or RK98. Tenkeyless size but still have ten key.

Recently bought RK98 since I want something compact but still have F and ten key.
Initially was considering Keychron K4 but heard it doesn't have software for customization. Connector at left side, board is higher than most other and doesn't have 2.4Ghz dongle makes me cross it off. It have better switch and keycaps than Royal Kludge I think. RK98 wins me over as it have small gap for arrow and ten keys, which I feel help to locate the key without looking down. But that also means it doesn't look as compact as others though.
The keycaps feel gritty to touch and single color looks bland, something that I will definitely change in future. I got the brown switch and it works okay for me, I'm not really particular for switch. They use their own switch and I feel comparable to Outemu brown that I have. The stabilizer does rattle but I see it is prelube, need some mod to be done for the stabilizer. North facing RGB and can be custom map either from software or directly from the keyboard.

maybe you can check out cherry g80-3000 s tkl non-backlit also. it's a minimalist soldered plateless prebuilt with 5-pin cherry mx hg (nylon housing), full-nkro, winkey lock, and double-shot key caps.

The only keychron i have is a q1 which is fine for the money. The K series is known to be on the high side, so you might need a wrist rest.
Also bluetooth wont be usable for fps gaming, otherwise should be fine.
If you can wait, they will launch a metal version of the k10.
Also maybe you can consider the k4 which has almost all the keys of a full size but less width.

Thanks. Yeah, this one I might use for travelling. K4 looks like it gets the job done for me.

Any other options for full size? Like the ones with wireless dongle.

I see an RK100 with 2.4. No idea, never tried the brand but is pretty standard entry level stuff.
There's a Feker 940 v3 barebones kit.
I have a Feker ik75 and its fine for the price, but my biggest problem is the lack of keymap customization. You wont need much since its almost a full size, but you have to sacrifice keys if you want to add any macros. The 2.4 works just fine for fps games. Cheap (cheaper on Taobao) and you can pick any switch and keycap you want (hotswap).
I'm guessing you need the numpad right?

this is an old news: simpler6x is officially supported by via, https://github.com/the-via/keyboards/tree/master/src/iLumkb

fully foamed gasket mount kits like simpler64 are forgiving. it's hard to find out short comings of switches with them.

currently i use stock giantv6 with it, a relatively louder switch (due to long its stem pole). typing feel wise, it's comfortable for me.

this is my first reference build in 2022, with tuned jwick c-black v1, stock 58.5g linear rated spring.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

edit: with linear switches that have relatively less stem wobbles as base switches (e.g., those from sp-star, jwick, jwk), i can use linear-rated springs that have lower spring weights, without causing mistyping.

this is not the case with gateron ks-3 for me.

asus getting in on the mkb action with their rog brand heh ph34r.gif

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/03/fla...imate-keyboard/

looks nice, but in terms of bang for buck, you can get a decent enuff mkb for half the price and spend that money else where on your pc components, maybe like increased budget for a better monitor, graphics card or cpu.

but if you can afford it, and you want something nice, this looks good, but maybe you can get something for the same price or less perhaps hmm.gif

their mkbs have features for those who like them. however, like you said, it's better to get something that are more practical for lower price, and invest the extras in other parts.

as for layouts, i just stick to 64-key 60/65/75%. tkl, full-size and anything in between are bulky for me; and the more keys in the layout, the more untouched keys for me.

good for you haha

good mkbs can last for a long time in general, so yes just get what you are comfortable with. my filco tkl is almost 10 years old, and it's still going strong, with nothing broken until now smile.gif

Still looking for full size modular keyboard. Don't have enough knowledge. Reading here and there. Wireless option is a plus.
