It hasn't been released yet so probably not. Both the Akko Mod 003 and 004 are still in the preorder phase. They release later this month. I'm like 70% favoring this over the others.
Looking hard at Keychron Q1 as well but I need the knob lol. GMMK would have been a sure buy if it wasn't for the recent QC issues.
*
Keychron has their fair share of QC complaints as well.
But I have good experience with their products (K8 and K4) so I'm putting a good bet on the Q1.

Kinda disappointed with their marketing on the rotary encoder on the q1. Supposed to be an add on and such a big deal was made out of it. Now, seems like in order to add the encoder, it has to be a different board.

Most of their first promotional pictures was with the encoder, but at least now can see how does it perform before committing.

If everything goes well and still have enough leftover budget, i'll get the e-white version with a rotary encoder. Might even try their phantom yellows as it's cheap when in a bundle.

can't find any videos on Akko MOD 003 but there are plenty videos of their first aluminum keyboard the MOD 001 -> https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV11f4y1t7aY...708237724131405

Sounds pretty good for a tray mount. Courtesy of the top and bottom foams I guess.

So now doing pre-order of CP/1800 form factor. 003 is gasket mount. 004 is tray mount for USD20 cheaper.

Honestly I kind of need the numpad so I'm leaning towards the Mod 003. It's a lot harder to run some numbers when I have to look at the keyboard to type them in.

Go read the IC on geekhack. It was supposed to be presoldered on the board.

And you can take a look at the q1 product page. Small hidden statement that says you need to change the whole pcb to use the encoder

Hey guys. I have a few switches (gateron yellow) that's just scratchy no matter how much i lube it. It's just like 3-4 switches out of the whole keyboard, but no matter how i lube them they're just still scratchy. Any way to solve this apart from replacing the switch?

Oh right, the change the PCB thing to fit the knob. I mean even if you stopped to think about it, from a technical standpoint it makes no sense that the current slot for a switch would be compatible with a knob. It's why people were waiting for the Knob version. The GMMK Pro looks good primarily because of it.

For custom kits that have encoders, it's actually fairly common for the encoder spot on the PCB to support either encoder or switch. That means it has both sets of holes at the same spot.

The personal aesthetic issue I have is that the top of the case can look ugly if a round encoder is coming out of a square hole. Which is one of of reasons I designed and made my own custom case.

Between those 3 to 4 switches, swap the top shell, spring, and stem between them. You'll be able able to save some.

Lube shell, stems and springs.

Actually it looks like the current versions are still compatible with the Knob. Someone just modded their current gen Q1 to use it. Randomly just opened facebook to see this on my timeline. Goddamn corporations are spying on me shocking.gif

That makes sense. So 1 switch will get all the worst parts. Guess I'll use that for the least used key. Thanks!

you will have to solder a knob on top which you can do to almost all keybs. You'll have to forgo your warranty for it though. And the empty square hole on the bottom is ugly AF.

I mean yeah but it's still doable. Who are you going to show it off to even if it was round, other nerds online? I bet most people don't know anyone irl who uses an ordinary mech that isn't "gaming" branded let alone customs. laugh.gif

might be because i'm OCD, but square peg round holes just don't go well together.

I understand. I know that feel bro. console.gif Also in other news, just saw how backlogged one of the less popular keycap makers, Signature Plastics is right now. SA Vilebloom Ultimate's estimated shipping date is Q1 2023. shocking.gif

Had some free time today so I decided to swap out my Akko Matcha Greens & gang for the Feker Pandas that arrived last week.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Decided to do every switch this time instead of mixing and matching. So far I'm in love with these. The solid thocky sound and the feedback from typing are just amazing. It feels just right after trying out linears where I had a tendency to make more mistakes due to the smoothness. I was worried 67g was going to be too heavy after reading the reviews on similarly heavy switches but they're perfect for me. Actually thought I was linear gang for sure but these made me wonder if I'm secretly gay tactile-gang after all unsure.gif I don't have Holy Pandas or Glorious Pandas (yet) so I can't compare them. But these are amazingly good. I was satisfied with the Akko Matcha Greens and was considering going down to my endgame Tangerines for the full linear experience. Now that I know that 67g is fine I might try out T1s next.

Did a type test. About 20% faster than with the Matcha Greens with fewer errors.
