my latest builds GMMK Pro + Double Gaskets Durock + GOAT frankenstabs + Bandaid Ink Blacks + Lubed + filmed + 65G Sprit Supremes Akko Cherry Neons Full metal knob GMMK Pro Durock + GOAT frankenstabs + Bandaid Boba U4T + Lubed + Filmed + 62G Long TX Springs Akko ASA Carbon Retro Full metal knob Currently building Feker Glaze 98, Kiwi switches, Durock plate mounts. Sounds horrible, so trying out different acoustic mods. Testing out masking tape on PCB as there is not space in case for foams. Just preordered my next next next build, KBD Odin. Still considering whether to get the keychron end of this month as it's too similar to the gmmk pros and keychron's build quality is quite shoddy.

QUOTE(niakulah @ Aug 15 2021, 01:45 PM) If I'm looking at the same thing, it's probably because the PCB is mostly resting on the bottom acrylic sheet. There needs to be some room there for nice sound IMO. But I think it is necessary to do it like that since it's a sandwich mount with hotswap PCB. If it was soldered, the PCB would be firmly attached to the plate and there would be no problem to add another layer or 2 between the plate and bottom sheet. i was actually thinking of using latex glue as a layer at the bottom case but now testing with masking tape first. The problem is actually with the case design, its too soft. bottom part is actually alright, just the middle frame is too soft and flimsy. Maybe double sided tape on each layer with a soft thin cushion on the bottom of the PCB. Was thinking foam between the top shell and pcb, but it beats the point of the glaze as LEDs will be blocked. Worst off i'll just use some silent linears with this keyb. The kiwi's are just too loud.

I think a piece of knitted TShirt fabric would also do very well.

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 1 2021, 08:46 PM) It hasn't been released yet so probably not. Both the Akko Mod 003 and 004 are still in the preorder phase. They release later this month. I'm like 70% favoring this over the others. Looking hard at Keychron Q1 as well but I need the knob lol. GMMK would have been a sure buy if it wasn't for the recent QC issues. you keep mentioning on the gmmk pro qc issues. What exact issue are you referring to?

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 1 2021, 10:17 PM) Do you not browse reddit bro? They drowned their current batch in lube. People have been having to take theirs apart just to dry or swap out the stabilizers and pads out. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboard..._pro_the_final/I think that should be the first thing you should be doing to any DIY keyb. For the gmmk pros, is to take out the stabs, clean and lube them, if you have durocks and don't fit in the al plate, just keep the GOAT housing and frakenstab it after doing the holee mod. you can also add in a piece of plaster on the pcb before screwing the stabs on. Amongst my gmmk pro's, what i'm having problems are not so much QC, but design flaws. gasket implementation is bad, GOAT stabs are not GOAT, could have used a smoother rotary encoder, QMK/VIA implementation not working as intended. if you're looking for prebuilts and non DIY keybs, go with keychrons, slightly better QC than the cheaper china clones.

QUOTE(zorbyss. @ Sep 3 2021, 12:45 AM) Keychron has their fair share of QC complaints as well. But I have good experience with their products (K8 and K4) so I'm putting a good bet on the Q1. Kinda disappointed with their marketing on the rotary encoder on the q1. Supposed to be an add on and such a big deal was made out of it. Now, seems like in order to add the encoder, it has to be a different board.

QUOTE(andrewtho @ Sep 3 2021, 12:55 PM) Yeah pretty bummed about this too - not very transparent about this from the get go. Most of their first promotional pictures was with the encoder, but at least now can see how does it perform before committing. If everything goes well and still have enough leftover budget, i'll get the e-white version with a rotary encoder. Might even try their phantom yellows as it's cheap when in a bundle.

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 3 2021, 07:49 PM) Wait for real? Got a sos? Honestly I kind of need the numpad so I'm leaning towards the Mod 003. It's a lot harder to run some numbers when I have to look at the keyboard to type them in. Go read the IC on geekhack. It was supposed to be presoldered on the board. And you can take a look at the q1 product page. Small hidden statement that says you need to change the whole pcb to use the encoder

QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Sep 3 2021, 11:51 PM) Hey guys. I have a few switches (gateron yellow) that's just scratchy no matter how much i lube it. It's just like 3-4 switches out of the whole keyboard, but no matter how i lube them they're just still scratchy. Any way to solve this apart from replacing the switch? Between those 3 to 4 switches, swap the top shell, spring, and stem between them. You'll be able able to save some. Lube shell, stems and springs.

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 4 2021, 08:13 AM) you will have to solder a knob on top which you can do to almost all keybs. You'll have to forgo your warranty for it though. And the empty square hole on the bottom is ugly AF.

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 4 2021, 03:47 PM) I mean yeah but it's still doable. Who are you going to show it off to even if it was round, other nerds online? I bet most people don't know anyone irl who uses an ordinary mech that isn't "gaming" branded let alone customs. might be because i'm OCD, but square peg round holes just don't go well together.

QUOTE(red streak @ Sep 4 2021, 04:28 PM) I understand. I know that feel bro. Also in other news, just saw how backlogged one of the less popular keycap makers, Signature Plastics is right now. SA Vilebloom Ultimate's estimated shipping date is Q1 2023. http://www.mechsupply.co.uk/product/sa-vilebloomslightly longer than usual, normal wait is about a year.

QUOTE(zorbyss. @ Sep 6 2021, 09:01 AM) how does the 50g switches (Matcha Green) weight feels after going trying out 67g, vice versa? I'm having ergo clears (clear stem, gateron housing, 62g gold plated springs from KBDFans), I was fine with 62g but sometimes it felt a tad too light where I get accidental press while resting on fingers on some keys (not that I have super fat fingers). I swapped them out for 67g and they feel like a rock to type on. I swapped back to 67g rightafter and now it feels like cotton to me. Anyway, I order 70g Aliaz and 67g Zealios (some said the 62g is comparable to browns) to build 2 new boards. Kinda wonder if I need to swap them out for slightly lighter springs, maybe 65g. i use sprit slow extremes 63.5 in my T1. not sure if its still too light for you, but for me it's just right with no fatigue and no accidental presses. I mainly use sprits, so not sure if there are any equivalent from others.

QUOTE(zorbyss. @ Sep 6 2021, 10:02 AM) I'm always confused about Sprit springs I'm planning to buy a bunch of TX springs sample packs from 60-70g and try them all out then decide which one to go out. I have a gut feeling the 65g zealios would be perfect but ppl are saying the 67g are slightly more tactile. Lets see. you would be right on the 65g zealios. weight would be right on the dot. my only issue with the zealios are they are way overpriced and overhyped. i already found my perfect switches, springs, acoustic profile combo. Gat ink blacks v2, filmed with deskeys (for sound), lubed with 205g0 both housing and springs, sprit supreme 65G. buttery smooth. and not as tiring compared to original springs.

QUOTE(KcX35 @ Sep 7 2021, 01:38 PM) $169-199 for a lightweight polycarb case keyboard? seems expensive to me. but they are most likely targeting the aesthetics base market. bass enhanced sound test video is a no go for me.
