Guys, just tested contactless at 7-11 in IPC. It works!

When I tried it like over a year ago somewhere else, it didn't work.

I am wondering is it because of balance in card? Last time I have less than RM100. Today I have over RM250. Please test with a higher balance.

I am going to some other shops later to try.

Update:
Tried 2 food shop, failed Wave. PIN ok.

What i can observe:
1. Failed contactless shops use those Android full touch screen payment terminal. One is a White color one...i think it' the older SunMi model..last time i was involved in some projects using this. Another one looks strangely like an Android phone slapped onto an add on but i can't be sure, basically also full touch screen device.

2. The one at 7-11 (which works with contactless) was those old school type keypad with small lcd screen display terminal.

Next time when you try, take note of the payment terminals and share here.

711 ones are supplied by HLB hence it should work fine

Iinm the last time I use it as months backs in McDonald’s is the black ones by Maybank

Probably is the gateway setting on their terminal itself which causes this issue or only the bank supplied machines are configured to accept it

Wise is supposed to charge only 1% fee for ATM withdrawal starting 3 Jan 2023, but I am still charged 1.75% on a 5th Jan withdrawal.

Has they reversed the fee reduction plan below?

Yeah, I did receive email from them saying there will be new fee structure at 1% starting 3 Jan 2023, but on 21 December 2022, they send another email to mention they remain fee structure as per previous style.

"From January 3rd, 2023, we had planned to move to a 1% fee for additional cash withdrawals above 1000 MYR. However, we have decided not to go ahead and will not be making any changes to your cash withdrawal fees.

This means you can still make 2 cash withdrawals up to 1000 MYR each month for free. We charge 1.75 MYR per additional withdrawal, and there’s a 5% fee on any amount you withdraw above 1000 MYR."

I have one question, is the MYR account can't receive wire transfer in foreign currency? I always transfer into USD then convert to MYR, then spend on Wise card or wire back to local bank if I need it, not sure is this the cheapest way of doing.

The USD to MYR conversion is competitive within the Wise app, and spending your MYR using the Wise card sounds fine to me.

What I do is receive the foreign currency in the corresponding Wise currency account, e.g. Euro to Wise Euro account. Then , from Wise Euro transfer to a local Malaysia bank. So conversion fee is only 1 time, using Wise's fee. And no ATM withdrawal charges with local banks.

White or Silver machine?

If that the case must the machine is not being enabled for foreign issued payWave card transactions 🤦‍♀️

Seems like it is the local banks are the culprits not enabling it

Suspect so because the big multi outlets stores like FamilyMart, 711 and McDonald’s no issue on payWave

Probably local banks so called Fraud Protection guise policies in place 🤦‍♀️

Yeah, I think they just scared and don't want to accept contactless foreign cards.
