Now at Hakodate, tbh not much to do. Already went to all the famous places in 2 days, still left 3 days to go lol. The road here is even harder to walk than Sapporo with all the ice melting. Lucky Pierrot was delicious though, and very big portion. One meal can last one day biggrin.gif

For some reason all the people decided to stand on the centre of the road to take pictures, really smh. Cars honking but nobody give af.

Hi fellow travelers,

Next mid March, planning to drop by at Utsunomiya, then sight seeing at Yamagata.
Will be using either Scoot or Batik Air, landing at Narita airport.

Need some update on the data plan, preferable using esim or sim card from Malaysia or Japan?

Thank you

I took batik air early this month, and the service was pretty good. Plenty of legroom too, but need to prepared something to get past the boredom onboard lol.

What provider you with? I’m using digi roaming, everyday 3gb internet and will refreshed daily. I believe celcom and maxis have the same roaming plan also.

Good to hear about your flight experience with Batik Air.
Will consider it.

I have Maxis and Celcom, later will check it out.

Thanks for your update.

depends on where u are going.

Central Hokkaido still ok to rely on public transport

Going Northern Hokkaido especially to Asahikawa, Furano, Biei is recommended to self-drive because public transport timing is less frequent

just got back from 3 weeks trip to Japan.
went to Tokyo, Hakuba for snow sports and then Kansai region and then Oita and Fukuoka before flying back to Malaysia.

Weather in Japan was crazy, snowing to much where it usually snows, and snowing at places where normally doesnt snow.

Hey man, I will be travelling to Tokyo this weekend for 2 weeks and I'm planning to travel to Hakone, Kyoto & Osaka. Is the weather in Japan that crazy? Freezing cold? Big wind? Any rainy day you encountered? Got any advice for first time traveller?

if you are going in September shouldn't be an issue, i think there's only one thing where you must stop at the junction when there's that triangle sign. Stop for 3 seconds before you start going again. Please don't ignore the sign.

I think the parking fees will be cheaper compare to Sapporo. Parking in Sapporo per day is like 2500 yen, especially near Odori Park cause i stayed near there last time.

i stayed in Japan for 6 years, and this was around 20plus years ago.
when i went there on the recent trip, even on the news mentioned how crazy the weather for this winter.

when i was in Hakuba there was even a snowstorm warning. i still remember that night.
its almost march but even weather in big cities are still cold.

Because you are also travelling to Osaka, i checked some data for you.
in february 2024, the temperature was around 3 or 4 degrees lowest. with high being 16, 17 even 20 degrees.
same time this year, lowest is -2, with high being 7 or 8 degrees.

when i was in Osaka for a week, highest temperature was 6, and thats noon time.

Rainy day yeah, but rainy day in winter is just drizzles.... not like rain in summer or rain in Malaysia.

if u coming to Japan for the Hanami/Sakura, then all the days are off a bit this year. because the weather are still cold, most probably bloom later than initially expected.

tip for you, what can i say? im not sure when you going, but do check previous 2024 weather on the dates you are coming. then minus 4 to 5 degrees to estimate for this year. Expect the unexpected.
Winter is almost over so i cant say much without knowing exactly when you are going, but bring some extra layers or just buy at second hand shops there if u dont mind and wanna save luggage space.

I just went to all these places 3 weeks ago, car is preferable than public transport. If without car a lot of places will be very headache to go to. Parking and gas are not cheap though so better prepare some budget for both.

Japanese prefer public transport because they can walk, Malaysian can't. 5km radius from Station for Japanese = Walkable.
From Sapporo Station they will walk until Susukino Zone
From Tokyo Station walk until Tsukiji
From Shinjuku walk to Harajuku.
