how much did u paid?

my experience it's not gonna cancel or reschedule because it's gonna always be a full flight(that's before covid) because there's only 1 flight per day
*
from kl to hnd around rm650, from hnd to kl around rm720 but exclude luggage upgrade meal and all that. Total dmg around 1.7k per pax.

That's good to know, the only thing i afraid of is cancel or reschedule.

Hi everyone, I would be travelling with my mom in Tokyo for 34 days this coming oct to nov. I have booked sotetsu fresa inn through agoda and it costs roughly around rm8k but can cancel last min. I have saw ppl online recommending services like oakhouse apartment for a better deal if stay for a month. Can anyone tell me what the best bang for buck for 2 persons stay? I don't mind if the apart or room is small cause we will be going out all day long anyway. My budget is around 7k - 8k.

Hotel got room service.
Since you going with your mother, Service apartment will be the best. Everyday 6 / 7pm go those mall and buy 20 30% discount meat / vege / fruit / sushi / side dishes and self cooking + services apartment got washing machine.
*
Got any good recommendation for the service apartment? I saw oakhouse reviews quite good.

QUOTE(michaelchang @ Jan 13 2023, 11:56 AM)
for Rm$8K, you could get 2 rooms at long stay rate at Hotel Mystay for 34 days but need to throw own garbage, pay for housekeeping (2000 yen each time) and towels change.(200 yen/towel change)
*
Just searched it but for my date only got 2 hotels which are located in Kanagawa but the price also almost the same as the one that i booked sweat.gif

Just do research on short term apartment renting cause I will be staying in more than a month

Sakura house - so far this one has the fairest price as it includes everything such as utility bills and cleaning fees. If additional person is staying in the apartment will need to add on another 20k yen. The only con is that some of the apartments are quite small and may not be comfortable for 2 people. Luckily the one that I found has a single bed and a loft which can use futon to sleep. Otherwise, one person may need to sleep on the bed and another on the floor. This one need to pay 15% of the price and the rest will need to pay when you arrive there since you will need to take the house key from their office. Also, some of their apartment has a bit of walking distance from the station so there's that. Just beware that the 15% is not refundable, but if there's any flight delay, cancellation or rescheduled that 15% deposit can be used on other apartments and they can hold the apartment for you as well.

Oakhouse - not really sure about this one but if im not mistaken, may need to pay utility bills and maintenance fees. Did not email the company since not a lot of apartments left from them.

sumyca - For this one, a lot of the apartment sure look nice but the fees on the website are a bit misleading. According to the staff which i emailed, the price stated on the website does not include cleaning fees, utility bills and some other things. Also, this one will need to make a one time payment when you want to confirm the apartment. The refund policy is not that great as well. I don't really find a lot of reviews for the company as well so I'm a little bit skeptical. This one use automatic check in which the staff will provide you the password 2 days before your arrival. Another thing about some of the apartments of this company is that the apartment use pocket wifi so beware if someone before you use large data consumption you will practically ends up with no wifi at the house.

There are a few more which I have researched but so far most are a miss.

Hi Sufu,

We plan to stay in Japan for 3 weeks - 2 adults 2 kids - to save cost, we plan to rent a budgeted airbnb. We plan to stay far from tokyo, kyoto, or osaka because this place are rather expensive.

Can share your suggest?
*
If you plan to stay far from these 3 places, where are you planning to stay? Yokohama, Itabashi these kind of places? Because one more thing you will need to keep in mind is the train fares. Train fares will get exceptionally expensive if you stay far far away as you will need to count depart from one place and arrival from one place and vice versa. Unless you stay within in tokyo 23 ku then you can take the tokyo subway ticket 24, 48, 72 hours. But these only work with tokyo metro and toei. JR are not included. Essentially you will be trading time with money and vice versa as well.

As Airbnb, I research for a few months, and I found it is even more expensive compared to hotels on agoda. In your case, I will try to look for monthly apartments. But I'm not sure if they take 3 weeks. You may try and ask. These are some of the options: https://www.sumyca.com/en, https://www.sakura-house.com/, https://www.oakhouse.jp/eng

For myself, I take sakura house for the cost of around rm6k which I will stay in more than a month. Rm6k is not exactly cheap either and to be honest it is more expensive than some other local options but im lazy to tinker with japanese people. The hotel that I book on agoda is around Rm8k for the same duration of time and as you can see i save around rm2k.

Which area are you plan to visit?

Side note: Yokohama not in tokyo means you cannot use the one day subway ticket. Also, there are risks of taking Airbnb as the host may cancel at any time which is what happens to me. Hotel is the best guaranteed for you as you don't want to be headache when you reach there, and the host cancel on you.

Thanks for your valuable comments.

My objective is for my kids to explore Japan during winter (actually no choice, only Feb - Mar has the long school holiday) .

My original plan is visit Tokyo and places nearby of it, but afraid of hotel fare if staying in the city. Therefore, Kamakura or takasaki is under my Radar now (i am also thinking whether to switch hotel whenever i visit the place & overnight - but i will be one man show to carry all the luggage since my kid is just only 7 and 4 years old - i scare leh).

I did plan to buy JR pass which will travel to Kyoto and osaka - i actually been there b4, just my kids is not.  And to be honest, kids dun care about nature view, they want shopping mall or theme park only. I will heard a lot of complain - Dad, i feel tired and hot when you force kid to go nature place, if you experience bring kids for outstation b4 haha. But my wife insist want to train them.
*
JR pass will up price this oct, so better to check on that. But I believe the normal regional Jr pass like tokyo wide pass will stay the same price if im not wrong.

Kamakura still ok far but takasaki really a bit too far sweat.gif I don't really recommend switching hotel as you go unless you are packing really light, otherwise like you said one man show to carry all the luggage will be a very big burden and trouble unless you rent a car and drive otherwise yeah going through the train stations and all that. But if you are not switching hotels and are staying in kamakura or takasaki, are you ok with travelling 1-2 hours sometimes even more everyday just to get to the places you want? Just like I mentioned earlier, need to take account of the train fares as well unless you buy jr pass which again will up around 70% prices this oct.

My honest opinion is if you are on a budget, just stay within in these tokyo 23ku and maybe try to look for a monthly apartment. There are a lot of nature view beside tokyo as well, no need to go so far until kyoto or osaka sweat.gif

Which month are you travelling to Japan?

The thing is, our local changers wont change their selling price accordingly.
Btw, you can only withdraw cash provided you have the wise atm card, correct?
*
October
I change last 2 week's which is around 0.322/321 but money changer charge me 0.330
Yeah, but I plan to use it digitally instead of withdrawing cash there since most of tokyo accept card anyway. I only change a bit of cash since I feel not worth the exchange rate.
