Hiring for programmers is always ongoing.
RPG is a niche market. And in Silverlake, for sure you won't be doing just RPG.

Unless banks / manufacturing companies decide to move out of RPG for good, there will always be a demand for RPG-related programmers. To be honest, I was told that RPG is a dying language back in college (7-8 years ago), so far - I am still waiting for it to die.

The demands for RPG still high regardless local market or foreign country.

Basically what you learn is not only the technologies (RPG/AS 400),
the business knowledge you gained from the products are more valuable.

It's not just about that the number of jobs. You also have to take into consideration that when a company is moving from RPG to newer systems, the integration/migration part still need RPG skills. That is where your knowledge comes in handy. It will be your selling point.

Plus, what fuzzylogic said is true, you also get the business knowledge for (mainly) banking sector which makes you valuable to that sector.

Haha, the guys from S'lake I know barely know enough to keep their jobs / handlers running, let alone the business knowledge... Then again, it might differs from one to another.

You won't find AS400 or RPG job ads on those sites too easily, most of these people know where they can go and apply for without relying on the general job hunter sites. Not forgetting, there are quite a few specialized head hunters that cater for AS400/RPG/CLE/etc programmers, and as said - those who gained sufficient business knowledge can also move on to positions within banks directly. Banks won't really need to put ads for these people in most cases thus making it scarce on sites like JobStreet/DB.

You can park in 1U or outdoor parking. Silverlake located in Lvl 2A KPMG Tower which is next to 1World Hotel which is also next to 1Utama. All of them r linked.

Where u heard them from? Its not an easy task to migrate a system to another. There is many risk involved. Money aside, the biggest risk is data loss while migration in which a financial company couldn't afford for it to happen.

Who was your interviewer? Bunny Khoo? If someone from BI, then you'll probably end up in Data warehouse (where I was tongue.gif). For oversea projects, it depends. My friend need to go after one week he joined. It's a good life experience, if you never travel before.

Thanks for your reply. So have you got the chance to touch the .net programming coding or other coding? They offer you what position? Is it all is programmer inside? Is that interesting dealing with Data Warehouse? I never experience traveling before....

Yes, best case scenario is you spend whole month (30 days) at oversea.
So if your per diem claim is RM90 daily then comes to RM2700 per month.
Then you can claim for telephone call and transportation as well where applicable and airport taxi.
Not to mention Air Asia meal allowance during flight even you didn't buy anything.
Certain countries like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have extra allowance called Hardship allowance which give extra RM30 or RM50 per day as addition to your per diem.
