The problem is at the front...
And the common problem of nobody wana pull and those who pull try to blow their own lungs...

Yeah I extended my elbow few times too many to make sure ppl beside n behind know they are getting in my comfort zone...

Meanwhile I think I brought the wrong bike πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Hello, are there any group road rides around the Bangsar-area? I've been abroad for the past 8-years and will be home with my road bike for 45 days this Feb for CNY and am looking to get some riding in.

Here's my Strava summary and feel free to follow me for a follow back! https://www.strava.com/athletes/29486558

Thank you all and looking forward to meeting some fellow cyclists.

stiffer = less flex = less power transfer lost (from leg to crank to frame)
and also it requires to more energy (power) to drive the bike

imagine riding a bike with suspension, and a bike without. which is faster? which is more comfort?
faster = without
comfort = with suspension

i would not say it s better for climbing.
it is all depends on the rider itself whether can handle a stiff bike.

of cos we much consider the carbon lay up of the manufacturer, with the right stiffness at the right place, the bike will have better power transfer which makes the rider go faster.
*
too stiff can lose abit of traction cos bouncing around, but can be remedied abit using wider tyres at low pressures. I think british hill climb challenge past few months won by riders on wider heavier tyres than superlight tyres, cos it was abit wet needed more traction, winner bike was 200-500g heavier than the lightest bikes on the course.

speaking of which, there was 1 year of SEAR, i actually stopped and sit by the roadside 7km away from the finish line almost fainted.
nasib got volunteer saw me n gv me water and teman me until i can get back on my bike.

those were the days
*
fuh, this is what we call dengelut. Saturday didnt know which roads werent affected by flood/landslide, so rode from KL to evian batang kali serendah and back through serendah bypass and templer. damn hot, almost fainted, heart rate was 175-180bpm puke.gif puke.gif puke.gif

Rode last night at PNR...
The group was soo dangerous...
Single file to multiple files across 2 or even 3 lanes...
Speed up n down not smooth sailing...

A few close calls for me...

End up I just ride behind and chicken loop cos I sked I might get into a crash...
*
I hate rides with many surges, thats why since last year most of my rides are with the same group, all steady. 2 rides with PCC, 1 ride with rojak group, with PCC usually steady pace, the rojak group ride start ride already split into 2 groups, some were audax fellas used to riding own pace and not drafting I think lol

Some quick pointers
- always ride near the front (+-10 riders or more if all are experienced riders), gives u a good workout and u stay out of trouble. those mini accelerations only happen midpack and below due to inexperienced riders braking instead of feathering their brakes like a clutch.
- always be spatially aware, you are responsible for you own front wheel, dont overlap wheels but try to ride to slightly 1 side of their wheel.
- your front wheel and your handlebar are your most important "square", if your "square" is ahead of another riders "square" in a peloton, u have better control over them if u get bumped.
- be at ease if u get bumped, extend your shoulder on the side u gonna get bumped. Elbows can too but will effect your bike handling
- if u hear freewheeling coming from the front, they are slowing down. good time to move up if u are stuck behind
- feather your brakes when slowing down and soft pedal into it like a clutch
- be predictable, hand signals and be vocal on your intentions
hope it helps

thanks for the tips sifu podium climb while drafting KOM challenges

i have some friends staying around bangsar, maybe I'll ask them to contact you if got any rides from there. one option is to ride into KL and do the hills there, 50k can get up to 800m elevation, or ride federal highway to shah alam or go further into guthrie highway up to kuala selangor/sekinchan if you need more mileage.
