I believe that many long-time ASNB unitholders would have already been aware of the potential impact of Prosperity Tax from Budget 2022, over ASNB dividends.

Sigh, it is possible that we are indirectly "paying" for Prosperity Tax, through possible reduction in ASNB dividends. We just have to brace for "impact".

The following article is from The Star.

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...-are-inevitable

QUOTE
The move to introduce a one-off Prosperity Tax of 33% or nine percentage points more than the current corporate tax rate of 24% to boost the government’s coffers appears to punish all large companies with chargeable income above RM100mil. This move is targeted towards some 234 companies that are presently enjoying profits above the threshold amount and are expected to generate some RM5bil in additional revenue to the government.

Another point of contention is that although it is a one-off tax, it will have an impact on the amount of dividends these corporates pay to their shareholders, especially towards institutional shareholders like the Employees Provident Fund, the various funds under Permodalan Nasional Berhad, and other unit trust funds. This in turn reduces the asset managers’ ability to pay a good dividend, especially for the 2022/2023 financial period.

Now you directly own the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang expressway (SUKE). I suspect "national service" given the series of bad incidents happening with different segments of the SUKE project. Some contractors might need capital injection, so you pay instead. tongue.gif

Not only that, there is a chance that your ASNB and EPF dividends paid will also be taxed, unless exemptions are given.

The following article is from The Star.

The many stages in a person's perspective of Time.
Extreme Trauma - time is measured in seconds.
War, Disaster - ...in minutes/hours?
Famine, Poverty -... in days?
Poor - ... in week?
As we gone down the list...asnb investors, time measured in months or year (depending if invested in single/multiple asnb fund)
Lastly, the super wealthy - ...generational timeframe?

Personally, i planned my retirement based on a historical 6% asnb, kwsp, dividend. Evidently, experiencing a $80k annual shortfall.
Hence, continue working, while working on a financial vehicle able to generate additional $2mil personal wealth (@4% dividends) and/or significantly increase annual dividends.

More importantly, we r considered the lucky ones...our Time perspective allows us to respond, ability to correct this $ shortfall.
Bottomline, dont stay idle, use Time to your advantage.

I don't see the ASNB dividends being taxed but I can see the dividend rate becoming affected by tax paid higher up the financial food chain.

As previously posted, I think there is a possibility of the declared dividends becoming affected by the prosperity tax but I can't see the (lower than would otherwise be the case) declared dividends then being taxed. That would be very unfair.

On the subject of prosperity tax, it has been called a 'one off' tax. Does that mean it will only apply for a single tax year and then be discontinued??

Ya true for single tier system, what I said earlier would have been "double-taxation". We will know the scope of taxation soon, during second reading of Finance bill this December. Unfair indeed, but if they can grant tax relief for foreign dividends, then maybe important sources of income like EPF/ASNB would likely to be spared from the rout. EPF especially so since it serves as retirement fund (401k/IRA account in the US also tax-free until you withdraw at retirement age).

For prosperity tax based on budget 2022 yes it is one-off, industry observers are watching if this so called one-off tax will become the "new normal", given the government's failure to control its spending and desperate to find new source of revenue.

To validate your bank account to see if it is genuine ... they will deposit RM0.01 to your bank account to test your bank account if it is valid or not. If valid, then it will mark as "Passed"

My bank account is still active, I'm using it everyday.

I can see ASNB credited RM 0.01 to my bank account a month ago. Just that the status always shown "Sedang disahkan." as of today.

I will contact ASNB cs later to check what's going on. Thanks.
