Any brands to recommend that have those motor cross look?

These are an acquired taste.

Been a long-time fan of modular helmets, having had two LS2 FF324 before but I find the visor release latch to be bloody fragile and it's a royal pain in the arse to remove the visor without breaking the flimsy latches. I've broken them in both my helmets, and the drop down sun visors have become stiuck -- they're due to be sent back to LS2 in Penang next week for repairs when I make a run back to USM to get my graduation gown for my convo.

So when I moved up to an adv touring bike with a big windshield, I got a Scorpion ADX1 and an HJC C80, both dual-sport modulars with a peak & elongated chin bar.

Bought them because they use simple metal screws that hold the visor in place, a far simpler & better mechanism coz they won't break like the silly latches of my LS2 FF324s. Not exactly of the quick-release nature, but I never had the need to remove my visors in a hurry anyway so it doesn't matter.

These are fine when u have a big windscreen coz the peaks won't catch in the slipstream. The original purpose of the peak on off-road oriented bikes is that if you tilt your head down a bit they can keep the muck from the rooster tail left by the bike in front off your visor. I don't ride like that, but I do find the peak to be useful keeping the worst off your visor in heavy rain.

I like the elongated chin bar as it leaves plenty of breathing room between your mouth and the chin bar, allowing my Cardo mic to slip under pretty easily when I close it down. They also tend to have a bigger viewing port, so together with the additional room behind the chin bar they make the helmet less stuffy when you have to ride in slow traffic at noon. Just opening the visor is often enough to let in plenty of air, instead of having to lift up the entire chin bar.

Between the C80 and the ADX-1, the ADX-1 is clearly my favourite of the two. The only drawback is it isn't P/J rated unlike the C80, although the new ADX-2 addresses this issue. Not much a problem to me coz I have hardly had the need to ride with the chin bar up anyway coz the viewing port is so damn big.

Flip-back modulars that allow the chin bar to go all the way to the rear of the helmet require additional gear mechanisms that add even more weight & complexity. And they tend to be very round in shape too.

If the simple drop down sun visor could get stuck in my LS2, then I tend to distrust more complicated mechanisms in a helmet. Just more shit to get knocked out of alignment, slip, jam etc.

thats weird. What size do you wear? I wear an M and the ADX doesn't look that odd. It certainly looks smaller than the MT Atom that I have (M is the larger of the 2 shell sizes, shared with 2XL..lol)

Take note on the shell sizes. typically a good helmet will have at least 3 shell sizes. XS + S, M+L and XL and up. Cheaper helmets tend to make do with 2 shell sizes, typically XS + S and M and larger. If you have an M head, you get stuck with a huge shell for 2XL making you look like a bobblehead.

Currently, I am happy with my RPHA70, but waiting for Hodaka to bring in the 22.06 rated ADX2. Miss the convenience of a modular for city/low speed trail riding.

Hello guys, I'm planning to get CB250R around end of year and am looking at HJC helmet. Should I go for IS17/C70/I70 (same shell just old and new version) or save my wallet with CS15?

Looking to get a HJC-CS15 and perhaps some riding jacket, anyone has a shop to recommend in KL/Selangor?
*
HJC FB just announced a new dealer in PJ, opposite Honda Big Wing PJ.
GoBikeToday, Jalan PJS 1/28, Taman Petaling Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
https://gobiketoday.my/

For jackets, maybe Bikeworld Old Klang Road and hope you can find some offers.
If you're planning to import then target something below 500 to avoid SST and duty, xlmoto or fc moto maybe. Shipping is around RM100-160 so your jacket better be around 70/80usd max.

If you don't mind old model. Get the IS17

It has a high rating in the sharp test. Not bad for mid level helmet. Most higher end brands and models don't even get this rating.

hello and welcome

for most ppl, the first helmet is a mistake
list down a few brand and models that are within your budget, and some at the borderline breaking budget, and then go test helmet
helmet fitting is very important

good luck

Thanks. Yea initially I was looking at Bell Qualifier but saw a lot of comment about the noise and I had done research on Sharp rating as well and Qualifier got just 3*. Direct competition would be CS15 with sharp 4* which is better and slightly cheaper. The most I can stretch is IS17/C70 with the 1k price tag but kena save up a bit more. Itchy for IS17/C70 coz it's in Fortnine's best helmet list as well (bcoz of the 5* sharp rating). The only thing is I don't see much hi viz colorway from HJC but not dealbreaker la, I can still get something white or bright.

For most people the first bike is also a mistake . hahahaha. What more a helmet.

As for fitment, most people buy one that is too big. Because any new properly fitting helmet would be uncomfortably tight when new. Testing helmets for fitment is crucial, even helmets from the same manufacturer may not fit the same. I tested the HJC F70 and the RHPA 70 both in size M, the F70 just didnt fit me.

For daily riders such as myself.
Sunvisor is a must
Not only shading from the sun, but during slow ride I can lift up the main visor to get more ventilation, at the same time get eye protection as well. But never do this when riding at high speed.

hey guys, I am currently riding a sport touring bike with a decent windscreen. I am considering changing my helmet to LS2 Pioneer Evo.

Has anyone here tried it before? Any review?

My main concern will be its wind noise. I am not sure with a decent windscreen will the wind noise still be loud.
