great movie - standing ovation to the camera crew! It is not easy to create such 'near realistic' impression with camera movement! Also, i think this is the first full length action movie using such creative approach. and lastly, AMAZINGLY beautiful set of cast tongue.gif

Did Rob killed Hud and Marlena so that he can get to Beth and tell her that he loved her? I mean seriously, he was going to be the vice president of an international corporation? Yeah, we all can claim that it was Hud's (the camera man) choice to follow Rob to look for Beth. But then again, was Hud given the choice? He was the best friend of the brothers. Watching Jason got killed just minutes earlier, what kind of 'best friend' will let Rob going alone to look for the Beth?

Just came back from the movie, and I'm still in the moment. sweat.gif

Bloody hell. Definitely an experience worth experiencing in the cinema. The acting is meh, but goddammit I was sucked into the nightmare. It was pretty damn intense at parts, beginning with the subway tunnel scene ("Turn on the night-vision!"), and I still can't stop thinking about the movie.

I don't know. It definitely has its flaws, but man... what a movie! The whole in-your-face hand-held camera shooting was pretty incredible, and this is my first time watching something like this (I never watched Blair Witch, and I don't think I'll bother). It felt like a documentary rather than a film, and Matt Reeves went above and beyond to make sure it FEELS like a video recording found while the US Military were excavating around what used to be Central Park.

I wonder if we'll ever get to see what the other guy was recording.

P.S: Oh, check this link out. It's IMDb's FAQ of Cloverfield. They have a lot of answers for your questions regarding this movie, for example:

My respect for the whole production team just went through the roof after reading it.

I think it was more of a realization that this might be his last night alive, and he didn't want to end it by thinking of all the "What if"s that might have happened differently. Beth was the one thing that he could change at that time, and maybe what his brother said spurred him on. The three of them (Lily, Hud and Rob) were sticking together more from desperation than actual friendship, me thinks.

Pity about Marlena, though. That was pretty f***ed up. They should have turned on night-vision earlier. :sigh:

I was expecting to hate on this film, but surprisingly I really liked it. Very well-executed movie despite some minor flaws (hey Hollywood, I don't think video cameras with SD cards 'overwrite' video the same way as cameras that use tapes tongue.gif).

We're so used to seeing these sort of story-lines being told from an epic sky-high viewpoint, so this a fresh from-the-ground perspective. I had no problems with the shakey-cam after the first 15 minutes, but then I'm an FPS player.

I tend to enjoy movies more when they have an 'unresolved' plot, as long as it's done properly, so I might be in the minority.

I would say adjust your mental and be mentally ready, you need to know this is documentary flim. Put yourself in it if you were the one who hold the handycam. Get yourself the backseat. Don't talk to your friend while watching, saying, "neh, neh, neh... sure like this one...." or "diuz lo, wtf movie is this... regret lan jor..." Your mindset already think like this, sure the movie not nice lo. If the female character inside was your super japanese pornstar you like, I tell you, no matter what she did, you will say nice...

One thing really work here, sit properly, adjust your head so you "stick" or "lie down" to the seat. Don't face here and there. Simple.

Okay i have to say this movie shows a different approach and totally gave a different appeal towards mainstream movies

The camera shaking part was acceptable for the first 20 minutes? after that, it just brings the mood down. Story line was pretty much very blunt. Not typical, good start, but bad conclusion of the ending?
Kudos for a good try , trying to be more creative in a different expect, but the shaking part? doesn't appeal much to me

Just one question, i just wonder .. which camcorder could last from all the fall from a helicopter, earthquakes, attacks.. and which camcorder battery would hold that long ? giving it 10/10 for rating.. i don't think so.

Revamped it first.

its been discuss over and over again, kindly check previous page icon_idea.gif

Is the crash really survivable?
Certainly. The helicopter didn't just lose power and drop out of the air in free-fall. You can tell from the background footage that it is spinning uncontrollably and descending rapidly, which implies that the monster crippled its tail rotor. However, the main rotor, still spinning, would slow the descent. It definitely landed hard, apparently killing the pilot and injuring Rob's leg, but it didn't just drop to the ground like a stone.
QUOTE
How does the camera's battery last for seven hours or more?
It doesn't. The camera is turned on and off many times throughout the night (a seven-hour period), which preserves the battery life for a cumulative recording time of about 74 minutes.

The entire movie is (within the fictional realm of the story) nothing but raw footage from digital video card(s) recorded on a single video camera (the camera used, a Panasonic HVX200, uses 1 to 2 digital P2 cards for recording). No one has edited the footage we're seeing. The cuts occur when Hud turns off the camera. We see pieces of "old footage" whenever Hud checks the recording, rewinds or fast-forwards it.

The battery only needs to last for as long as the movie does without credits--again, 74 minutes. A fully-charged camcorder battery will last longer than that.

I wonder why everyone cannot believe a dv cam can survive a heli crash
dun u guys think that human are more fragile than a dv cam?
if human can survive, why nt dv cam... tongue.gif
and maybe hud protect the dv cam during the crash(just guessing) laugh.gif

sudd remember something...does the heli crash on a field? i remember seeing many grass? nt sure though rclxub.gif
if it's true...then it would probably absorb some impact too

Just check IMDB faq for cloverfield or watch the movie carefully.

How many times we must stress that the helicopter DID NOT DROP DOWN TO THE GROUND LIKE A STONE AND CRASHED LIKE A METEOR.
IT JUST SWIRL AROUND AND DESCENT VIOLENTLY ALA BLACK HAWK DOWN STYLE?

How many times we must stress that the CAMCORDER IS SWITCH ON AND OFF IN INTERVALS OF THE EVENT? The event duration is around 7 hours and he only filmed like 80m of it.

I do agree that the film has some flaws though. Tell me which movie doesnt have any?

Edit: lolz someone posted 1m earlier than me
