I was expecting to hate on this film, but surprisingly I really liked it. Very well-executed movie despite some minor flaws (hey Hollywood, I don't think video cameras with SD cards 'overwrite' video the same way as cameras that use tapes ). We're so used to seeing these sort of story-lines being told from an epic sky-high viewpoint, so this a fresh from-the-ground perspective. I had no problems with the shakey-cam after the first 15 minutes, but then I'm an FPS player. I tend to enjoy movies more when they have an 'unresolved' plot, as long as it's done properly, so I might be in the minority.

QUOTE(funnyTONE @ Jan 23 2008, 04:03 AM) A tip of advice to JJ Abrams (if he's reading this). If you wanna make Cloverfield a memorable, household name, you must have a score - the music for the monster. You know JAWS was such a success not only because of the story, but because just by listening to its score, you know straight away, its JAWS. More legendary score examples - Star Wars, Rambo, Superman, Matrix, Titanic, Jurrasic Park. Your mention about a movie score reminded me about the music that played over the end credits of Cloverfield, which sounded like exactly like a soundtrack from a classic 1960s monster movie. It was a subtle touch that I enjoyed; the filmmakers stuck with a non-traditional route for the movie itself but for the end credits score they went back to traditional monster movie roots.
