Hi all,
I bought my first gunpla yesterday. It's a HG of scale 1/144 and i thought of 'decorating' it but not to the level for displaying I read thru the pinned thread and the corresponding tutorials for newbies, but thought it might be better to ask for confimation before i buy the required materials. Basically i plan just to do lining and some painting to replace the stickers and also certain parts that come in 1 color (mostly the weaponry and some parts of the limbs .... maybe some slight paint to cover up the left-over nubs (if got) ). So the items i'll need are : gundam markers, topcoat, primer(?), thinner for cleaning up. As for the paint i'm intending to use Acrylic type, and handpaint it. Process will be line-> paint -> assemble and finally topcoat? Hope my question isn't weird, and fellow forumers out there can answer. Many thanks in advance. QUOTE(noob4life @ Mar 14 2008, 09:09 PM) Its easier to classify paints by their cap... i assume u guys are using Gunze Sangyo's line of paints ... at last. thanks man.. i already know about their cap BUT always confius with their name..hehePlease note that the names are all based on the LABELS on the product... not on the description written in XL Shop !!!!! Mr. Color ( lacquer based ) paint = Mohawk-shaped cap 1. Thinner that can be used : Mr. Color Thinner 110 ml/250 ml/400 ml Mr. Color Leveling Thinner 110 ml/400 ml Hobby Color ( water based ) paint = FLAT shaped cap 1. Thinner that can be used : Hobby Color Thinner 110 ml/400 ml See the difference in the names ? hope this clears up some confusion. so now about retarder thingy.. it for acrylic or laquer paint? cos in the xl-shop it state for laquer (Mr.Retarder Mild use to slow down the speed of dry of Thinners & Mr. Colors) or retarder can be use bot for acrylic n laquer |

XL dun bring in air-canister... they only have those liquid form of surfacer and color in small bottles.
which means u need to use AB to spray them or, use brush to do hand brush. |

If u prime, the paint won't peel off so easily coz there's a layer to hold the paint... get wat i mean? i've tried b4 priming and without it... the paint easily cracks and peels off.. so now i prime all my kits... QUOTE(darklancer @ Mar 15 2008, 01:09 PM) yes.... same answer as above |

Other than Mr. Color series and Tamiya color, are there any kinda paints that can be used? I stumbled upon this Pelikan Plaka(?) today and the staff said that it can be used for gunpla painting as well. @_@ Also, which topcoat should i get? I don't really know the major difference between all 3 types other than they're ... glossy and non glossy. |
