Does anyone know, if I choose 1TB + 256GB option, where will they install the OS?

I'm looking a new Lenovo laptop for student use + web browsing + Ms Office work
If you're only going to use it for those purposes, I would suggest you get the ThinkBook instead of the IdeaPad Gaming

Some ThinkBook can still fit your RM3K budget

I'm looking a new Lenovo laptop for student use + web browsing + Ms Office work in the range of RM3k

What is the main difference between IdeaPad Gaming 3(i) and IdeaPad 5 if I'm choosing the same spec?
*
Look at Yoga7 which been posted numerous times before. Keyword is to use “FRONTLINER” code upon checkout. Though the waiting time can be quite long.

Ryzen 4600u ultrabook with 16GB RAM, genuine office H&S and proper 300nits display for under RM3k. I don’t think you can find anything better already.

Alternatively, if you don’t mind the sucky display on Ideapad Gaming 3 I listed above, that’s currently the best value laptop Lenovo is offering.

All in all, it backs down to whether you prefer gaming laptop (better performance, bulkier and suckier display) or ultrabook (better mobility, better display, can charge with USB PD powerbank).

Thanks. They won't install it on the HDD right? Since it is the First Storage to be selected.

anyone has experience with buying the laptop that ships more than 8 weeks, but in the end they cancel your order because no more units available?
*
Last time, one of the CS did tell me about that. Yes, in case of they cant find parts or out of stocks, etc, they will cancel your order.

Reason why they install to SSD not HDD because of Window boot speed, software/apps load faster, read & write data faster.

ThinkBook has many options to choose from. Which one should I start with?

I randomly played around and got this:
ThinkBook 14 Gen 2 (RM2,723.85 - after eCoupon FRONTLINER)

Which Yoga7? Something like this?
Yoga Slim 7 Pro 14ARH5 (RM3,244.85 after eCoupon:FRONTLINER)

In short with a 3k+ budget, I should avoid IdeaPad and go for Yoga or ThinkBook. Is that right?

I'm currently using ThinkPad X1 Yoga as my company laptop. This new purchase is for my Primary 1 kid + wife use.

If you don't need fully speced laptop, Yoga (especially Yoga Slim Pro / Slim Carbon / Slim 7 AMD) and Thinkbook (13s/14s/14s Yoga) are the way to go for around RM3k budget

For Ideapad 5 you can spec it fully with RM3k budget

This is the lowest price config YogaSlim7 (Ryzen5) with 16GB RAM (which I think is quite essential as 8GB can start to choke for heavy browsings, also you can’t upgrade LPDD4X RAM aftermart) and 3 years carry-in warranty.

If you still have budget, can consider upgrading the Ryzen7, 512GB SSD and glass bezel display. Those upgrades don’t cost much extra under FRONTLINER discount.

Thinkbook 14 looks decent too. But the price premium when going Intel can hardly be justified. This path, you end up paying a lot extra just for going i5, 16GB RAM (3200DDR4), 300nits display (default display only 250nits) and didn’t come bundled with free Office Home&Student. just configured it myself, i5 one go for 2.9k as you configured.

For me personally, I will consider intel’s ultrabook ONLY when it came with Thunderbolt4 (AMD laptops didn’t offer this yet), and these type of ultrabooks easily starting at over RM4k all the way up to 6k as you configure more. Intel without TB4 offer nothing more than AMD, while costing a whole lot higher.

P/S: Jusf noticed you actually configured the Yoga7Pro instead of slim. It came with H (high wattage) CPU instead of U (low wattage). Though having access to 1440P or 1800P display at 16:10 ratio is a huge perks though. Both Slim and Pro have its own value, depend on what’s your requirements/preference. The pro have a much shorter waiting period than slim though (2 vs 6-8 weeks).

Around 3.5k can get you a yoga slim 7i carbon, lightest lenovo ultrabook at 0.96kg. Can even play AAA games at low settings, and Quad HD screen.

for carry-in warranty, how do we do shipment to "Lenovo Depot"? As of now, I'm opting for Onsite Support (not Premium).

I'm still playing around with Yoga 7 Slim specs. Looks promising so far!

What kind of question is that?
The longer the warranty, the better. So you know within 3 years, your laptop is covered against any hardware failure
Some functions like BitLocker requires Windows 10 Pro, you can't use BitLocker on Windows 10 Home
*
Do you know that warranty is just a extra selling point for the co to earn more money?
Usually 1 year warranty is sufficient, any other problem (hardware failure) is easy to fix on your own. With tech advancement nowadays, board and chips wont get spoiled so easily.

So everyone in the world knows how to replace the LCD panel, they know how to replace the motherboard by themselves is it?
Spending RM300 for the 3 year onsite warranty is worth it in case the motherboard dies within that 3 year warranty period. You think motherboard replacement costs only RM300?
