It's genetic.... also it is not really black, it is actually a dark ruby eye, the other is a pink eye. I think sangels's Syrian has bi-coloured eyes.
*
Err... not mine. My Jack Jack is dark ruby eye. One of jack Jack's sibling - Shakira is having bicolor eye.

Also just got back from PD. There is an aquarium shop selling hamsters. Mostly all are golden and cream banded but there is 2 female sable banded about 2 months old from Johor. The owner of the shop is new to hamsters is breeding the 2 sables with a pure white syrian in the same small cage. All the hamster are fed with fish pellets shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

The 2 sables look like they are pregnant but not sure. Wanted to rescue the sable as their fur is nice and pure but the owner insist on selling both together. In the end just left without rescuing the sables as we are unable to take care of them if they are really pregnant and gave birth to 2 liters of hamsters cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

The owner just use a ruler to poke the hamsters. shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif

There is also a bin at the back of the shop with about 30-40 very young syrians about few weeks old. They all are malnutrition from the fish pellets.

New addition to the family - Sable banded without a name yet. Saw him in Giant Cheras just now. Very tame like Jack Jack wub.gif We think he is about 4 months old as he is slightly smaller than Jack Jack. He is temporary staying in Habitrail Safari until we get him a bigger home.

But why his testicles are big and saggy? sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Just buy a pack of hamster food preferably Prestige Hamster. You can alter feed them Prestige, vege, oats and fruits. No citrus fruits. And not too much kuaci.

Very small amount of dog food also can. 2-3 pieces a day is enough. Avoid cat food.

so far i noe sources of protein r hard-boiled egg white, cooked chicken..

currently i'm feeding them rolled oats n dried corn only.. they like de oats but wanna give them a diff food, so tat got balanced diet..

thx in advance..

Oats shouldn't give too much as it causes binding, which will lead to constipation. Don't feed cabbage, too much water content and not much nutrition, can cause diarrhoea if overfed.

Foods that can be fed are nuts and seeds like buckwheat, flaxseeds, sesame seeds, peanuts, cashewnuts, brazilnuts, sunflower seeds, soy beans, lentils, barley, spelt, rye, quinoa, amaranth and millet. Fruits and veggies are apples, guava, carrots, jambu, melon, choy sum, watercrest, water chestnuts, romaine lettuce, celery and pear.

Others include wheatgerm, soy tofu(raw), whole wheat bread, high quality dog biscuits and cherios.

That's not a sable, it's a black banded. If it's an adult male the saggy big testicles is normal.

No, they need a balanced hamster mix as a staple. Opt for Harry Hamster and Prestige.

Hamsters eat poo to gain bacteria that help them to digest. Like young hamsters will eat th adult hamster's poo to gain these beneficial bacteria that aids their digestion.

How often does it sneeze? Consecutively? How many seconds in between each sneeze? Or does it sound more like sniffling?

Ovo is a badly designed cage. Only for show, horrible ventilation. Just getting a large toyogo storage box would be good.

Yes you can feed, but feeding fresh live ones are best.

Thanks for the reply notworthy.gif Now only I know Fumoffu is a black banded Syrian doh.gif No wonder it's so dark sweat.gif So it's normal to have such a big and saggy testicles and it's dragging on the floor when he walks? unsure.gif

hmm.gif Then Blurjoey may thinking of getting another sable or golden banded now. blink.gif

You are feeding your hamsters a very bad diet. Who told you or advice you to feed only dried corn and oats?

Oats can be given but never as a staple. Like Reanne said, it causes binding. Are you trying to cut cost? With a pet, you should not do this, especially since you are breeding them. Lack of calcium, lack of nutrition. Just get hold of a bag of hamster food.

Also, corn carries a mold.... it actually causes health problems to most rodents....

A balance diet should be a bag of hamster mix like Prestige or Harry Hamster... or do your own mixture like what Reanne mentioned on the variety of seeds and nuts.

The thing I find disturbing is you breeding and cutting cost. I know you just sold away your male but why buy a male and female in the first place?

I also breed.... I'm also a student, struggling for money... but I still manage to feed my pets properly, a supply bill comes up to Rm200 a month, that is half my allowance.... the other half is only food and transport for me to college. I don't see why you can't get quality hamster food that is like RM18 a bag, which can last you a month. Since you breed, 2 bags a month....

QUOTE(irving @ Dec 30 2007, 04:02 PM)
my hamster broke her leg sad.gif
is there any vets that can mend it? or realy no way?
*
No vet would be able to help. It is hard to mend a broken leg for a hamster since it is too small. Just let it be, it will recover soon but may limp or drag that broken leg for life.... see how it goes. For now, provide some calcium by feeding some cheese and yogurt.

Hahaha... sorry, mistaken....

That's a nice black banded, maybe a bit thing only but he can fatten up. I'm looking for a pure black hehehe.... I love solid colours. Gonna try breeding solid Sable later.

Saggy testicles are ok.... sometimes they will look like that if a hamster is a bit dehydrated or just... saggy hahah....
