Sigh. It must be from the hamster mill. They dont separate them anyway. She has the pregnant symptoms... BUT I could be wrong and I REALLY hope I am wrong because it is just so cruel for her to be pregnant at this age. She is just as big as kuih bom or the huge cekodok pisang.
Let's pray she isn't. I will keep u updated tho... if she doesnt grow any larger and gave birth by next week, then it's a fake pregnancy, I read about it too...
OK, Q to the sifus:
Is it ONLY pregger hamster nests? If they are not pregnant, they wont be nesting? The instict only kicks in when they are pregnant?
Hamsters naturally will gather soft and straw materials to build a nest whether they are pregnant or not. But this behaviour is stronger with pregnant individuals.

reanne: oh the male was separated by me when i took it from my friend,i ask her wats wrong with the male..cause he was injured on the back few weeks ago. Now he is healing, growing new fur..I was just trying my luck to put them back together..cause my friend previously told me she doesnt separate them, she mix parents & babies together..now i duno which is baby which is the mom..but nvm..they will remain separated haha...
but the weird part is,the male were injured from those female which they are staying together previously..the female will attack the male..haha dont mess with female

Ha? She doesn't separate the babies? What kind of owner is that? Later inbreed and she will have many problematic hamsters. My advise is to keep them separated. Trust me, you don't wanna breed, if they multiply, they will multiply like mad and you will be overwhelmed by the numbers. It's also not good for their health. The male may be related to the rest and pet stores get stock in mass and you never know if the hamsters inside the stock may be related to each other.

You should not let them go more than 3 days without food.

Hehe, I am bit reluctant (now I mean not later)
IF she is currently pregnant as travelling and changing cage/environment/nest will stress her

and if she is pregnant, her kids are definetely up for adoption, as I am not planning to get more syrians than what I already have now. Even if it is financially possible, time is also important, unfortunately, I don't have the time to spend for more hamsters!

I've checked at another forum, they said my babies are long hair

they dont have the flowy really long hair but I realised that their hairs are indeed longer than some hamsters I saw in pics which hairs were closer to the skin unlike my babies

Oh also, Mimi could be having phantom pregnancies, where there is pyometra inside but no babies (which I so hope the case).
Since gestation period is between 16-18 days and I got her on the 20th... that means if by next weekend she is not giving birth, she is not pregger and soulx could come and get her... if he still wishes too

Anyway soulx, my humble advice, if you want to get from petshop especially big ones (syrians I mean), I really suggest you get from petshack, at least it's proven tame or half tame. For babies, like really small babies, I don't think it matters as long as you spend time in taming, handling, caring and loving him/her

She looks very young and yes, she's a long haired. Actually, what I'm going to say may sound cruel, but if she does birth any pups, it would be better to not let her raise her young. She is far too young to raise a litter on her own and it will permanently damage her growth and health. Nursing and raising a litter of pups takes a heavy toll on hamsters. Even an obese female hamster can become skinny before the litter is even weaned. That's why we emphasize on the resting between litters as they really need it. Even if she does birth just one or two, they may die as rodents need a larger number to stimulate their mammary glands. If the numbers are too few they may not produce sufficient milk. I have seen syrians that gave birth too young and they will either be stunted or have poor health and a short lifespan.
If you decide to let her raise them, she may become instinctive and cull the litter herself as some hamsters understand that their body is unable to take the strain and culling them is the best choice. But there are some individuals that have strong mother instincts and will raise the litter at the cost of her body and life.
She's a long-haired red-eyed cream banded by the way. Which is compromised of the black eyed cream and cinnamon gene.
