Thanks for the info and advice. My car also mainly park covered and just running around town (melaka). Maybe I should just go for a cheaper battery version....
Regarding hardwire, car warranty is 5 years, how lah no dash cam for 5 years? Or does parking mode can still work if just plug into cigarette port? Rear will still need some hard wiring right? Or can pull long usb cable to front?
The other thing, once cigarette port use up, no more for hand phone charging....dilemma
*
If you don't need parking mode then no need to hardwire the dashcam.

Anyway, Honda will say anything that is not factory installed will void the warranty (I have a Honda City 2014) laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif. But I didn't care and install Thinkware and no issues.

Wear and tear items is 100,000km or 3 years warranty only, not really 100% 5 years warranty. So if anything better claim before or HM will tell you no warranty as they did to me for my lower arm after 100,000km mileage ranting.gif ranting.gif ranting.gif

My Viofo Duo Pro

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K Front Camera CPL On

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K Rear Camera CPL Off

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K Front Camera CPL On Raining Day

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K Rear Camera CPL Off Raining Day

VIOFO A129 Pro Duo 4K Rear Camera CPL Off Night

Any recommendation in cabin dash cam only with IR ?
*
Nice. You can raise the front cam angle a bit as your front hood is covering half of the screen.

Something like this where the yellow line is the bottom of the screen.

I don't think there is an IR only dashcam. A129 Duo IR or maybe Yi home cam? Saw a taxi installed for in-cabin recording but not sure it will record though.

Sorry might sound a silly question...for duo cam eg viofo a129 duo, do I need to buy 2 micro sd card, one for front one for rear? Or the one in the front record everything?
*
Just get a big micro SD card is enough as everything is done by the front cam.

Thanks everybody for the info. 128gb then? Or 64gb enough?
*
It depends on how long you want to keep.

64GB about 6+- hours of videos for both front and rear. Basically about 3+- hours for each channel

128GB is about 12+- hours of videos.

Sorry, one more question if i may. If i install the viofo a129 without the hardwire kit (the one with 3 wires to battery, ground etc), but using some fuse box clip (a local car accessories shop say can do it RM80), is that considered tampering with the wiring system and risk of voiding honda warranty? Or its just a clip, can remove it whenever go claim honda warranty?
If it is still considered tampering, then I think i might just use cigaretter adapter.....never thought such a simple thing as a dash cam can become an issue and actually so much info to read. I definitely learned a lot in this thread.
*
Hardwire is actually using a fuse adapter to the fuse box without cutting any wires in the car. Technically this does not void warranty.

Another thing to consider if you are using parking mode or not. If yes then you'll need to use the HK3 hardwire kit with fuse adapters to the fuse box.

If not using parking then use the ciggie port to power the A129 Duo when you start the car only.

QUOTE(anwa @ Feb 18 2020, 10:52 AM)
so it is advisable to buy the viofo hk3 kit (i saw about RM68 on shopee) vs some random wire from car accessories shop?
The shop guy did advice against parking mode, say will drain car battery if not using car 3-4 days. Is this true? I do tend to go outstation 1-2 at a time occasionally, will hardwire be an issue?
*
Well for China dashcam hardwire kits, the cutoff protection are not 100% accurate like Korean dashcams or there is none.

For Viofo, the cutoff protection is not perfect yet but not as bad as the other no brand hardwire kit I guess.

Only get it if you want buffered parking mode. Else just use the ciggie port to power the A129 Duo.

Hi bro, initially want to get IRoad X9 but after see the user commented video are no clear. Budget around 1-1.5k, parking mode is important for me. Can you recommend some good workmanship shop for me? Appreciate your kindness 🙏
*
The best at the moment is Thinkware for it's parking mode.

Go to Sicurez in Sunway and check it out. Sicurez is the authorized Malaysia distributor and they provide installations for Thinkware and Viofo.

Anyone got modify this thing?

Can try soaking the suction cup in hot water to soften it back. Also clean the windscreen before sticking back on.

If still can't then its time for a new mount.

Can I use others brand hardwire kit to Viofo A129? Any recommendation Korean or reliable hardwire kit that compatible with Viofo?

Just left 2 days my car using Viofo A120 Pro with parking mode + Viofo hardwire. My car battery drain to 0....can't start.
*
It's recommended to use back Viofo's HK3 for A129 and A119 v3.

Korean hardwire kit doesn't have the batt protection in the hardwire kit as it is built-in inside the dashcam itself like Thinkware. But not all Korean hardwire kit is the same also.

Did you set the voltage cutoff on the HK3 hardwire kit? Set parking mode for 24 hours only and 12.4v cut off..

There is another option which is to add a battery pack like the DAD50 but not cheap. At least your car battery won't be flat in a few days.

After reading so many reviews and looking up so many dash cams, I settled on Thinkware U1000 with an external battery.
I had initially decided on F770 but it was out of stock and I didn't want to come back later.  It would be sufficient for me since my car has a lot of 'assist' softwares already.

Now I am getting beeps from both the car and the dash cam, which is not too bad. The volume can be turned down.
But what is rather disappointing is the motion detection message tells me that someone is close to the car, but I can't see him/her since the camera is for front and rear only. So if some creep scratches my car doors or bangs the side while opening their door, there is no record. What is needed is a 4 channel unit. My reviews say 360 cameras do not give good images. So I have to wait.
But I am happy with the audio, it catches voices outside. The hotspot is difficult to connect, wifi is easier. I am glad for buying the external battery, no flat car battery worries.

Thinkware is releasing their QX800 Mega 4CH this year laugh.gif

4 CH,200GB SD card and above would be ideal for the recordings!

Heard it is available in Singapore but Korean firmware only... Hope got international version later...

They're ok. Like the digital rearview mirror. But don't like the front camera angle.

Quick question guys, anyone of you use two front camera and place one at the back instead of using a dual dashcam which has the back camera ones too?

i currently have one 70mai pro but hasn't install yet. thought of getting a 70mai to install it at the back, do you think this is okay or not? and why? thanks.
*
Can use 2 front cams as dual dashcam but the 70mai as the rear cam will need a very long micro USB cable to the ciggie port.

Also, have to get 2 micro SD cards.

An advantage of 2 dashcams as dual is if 1 cam fail, still got 1 more running as dual dashcam if the main cam fail then both fail.
