Hi TS, I'm quite keen on the 70 Mai Pro.

Just wondering, is it preferable to get the GPS module or it's fine to have the camera without the GPS?

Appreciate your thoughts on this.

Thank you.
*
The GPS mount is to use the ADAS and track the speed driven.

If you need the above then get the GPS mount.

QUOTE(pokchik @ Jan 9 2020, 11:34 AM)
Do you install the U1000 yourself?
Or any contacts/shops for U1000 purchase + installation?
*
I DIYed installed all my dashcams.

Thinkware distributor in Malaysia is Sicurez. They sell and install all the dashcams they sell.

Haha still weighing up the options. The deal on Shopee with the GPS is RM289, without about RM24x

Don't think I need that ADAS thingy then again what do I know brows.gif

Suddenly TS shared Sicurez and their installation and their products seems to have pretty decent reviews [although pricey]...

So in between now -

Spend RM2xx for 70Mai Pro and DIY, or RM1xxx for proper installation for Thinkware/Blackvue...  hmm.gif As in, go all in and get the most out of the dashcam or just be content with 70MaiPro.
*
Usually with a 1-year warranty it is a bit more compared to those without a warranty.

Also lithium-ion battery dashcams vs supercapacitor dashcams

hi i'm new for dash cam think ware u1000 is it worth to buy? any option to add larger size for Memory Card or any suggestion for other model?
*
If you want something so high because of the true parking mode, ADAS, Cloud features, etc along with the 4K & 2K recordings, yes it is worth it. Can use a 256GB card.

If you don't require something so high end but require true parking and ADAS then can consider the Q800 Pro or F800 Pro.

If only require 4K recordings with a not so perfect true parking mode, A129 Pro Duo with HK3.

anyone tried cuevia dashcam?

Nope but looks like OEM from China also and not cheap.

Thank for sharing,
let say get 16gb or 32gb than own buy 256gb q800 or f800 pro
*
Just keep the original Thinkware as spare when the bigger 128GB or 256GB card gets spoilt.

QUOTE(jimbet1337 @ Jan 14 2020, 01:28 PM)
Does dashboard mat really help to reduce the reflection from the dashboard?
*
The mat does help a bit. You can test using a big black towel 1st and see the results before getting a dashboard mat.

The drawback of CPL filter is darker videos and the rainbow effects from the tints. But for darker video can raise the videos' exposure in the settings.

My mini 0906 was meant to be stuck directly onto the glass, but that didn't stop me from rummaging in the accessories from 6 action cams, finding a platform that could be screwed to a suction mount and sticking the dashcam onto it. I prefer having a dashcam that can quickly swivel in case I needed to capture some happening at the sides.

Generally speaking, yes a dashmat will cut down on reflections, but will not totally eliminate them. I'd suggest that you visit a car accessories shop on a sunny day and ask to try out various mats to see which material is least reflective. A dashmat will also reduce the ravages of the sun on your dashboard.

But I know of one exception (which you'll probably never encounter). Was in a friend's car on the way to a lunch function. He had to make a quick stop at his house to get some papers. As we approached his house, he asked me to open the glove compartment and take out the dashmat. I pulled out the most horrendous bright satin green mat that had been decorated with sparkly crystals sewn to it. I helped him put it on and the reflections were absolutely horrendous in the afternoon sun. He explained that if he did not use it, "nanti bini murka". So I guess she had lovingly made it for him. After we drove off from his house, he told me to take it off and put it back in the glove compartment biggrin.gif

Can suggest dual dashcam that got parking function.

Is the viofo a129 parking record function in timelapse until something trigger it or it only record when something trigger it only?

And btw what is the meaning of “true parking function” dashcam?
*
A129 series now has buffered parking mode like Korean dashcams but not 100% perfect like Koren dashcams. Use with a bit of caution.

QUOTE(Jay Chua CC @ Jan 20 2020, 11:40 AM)
Bought this Cuevia dash cam from thundermatch at rm99 each. Retail at Rm269 in the online website.

Overall not bad. Quite clear recordings. 1080p, motion sensor etc.
[attachmentid=10410143]
*
Nice! If can, please give us a review.

QUOTE(Jay Chua CC @ Jan 20 2020, 02:13 PM)
BTW is 16gb sufficient for 1080p recordings?
*
16GB can record about 1.5 hours of video. 32GB about 3 hours.

QUOTE(fkp1 @ Jan 20 2020, 03:23 PM)
Any vw owner can share what dash cam is good for front and rear? Without violating the warranty claim?
*
By right all car manufacturers will say void warranty for anything not factory installed.

QUOTE(shahrul09 @ Jan 20 2020, 05:21 PM)
Oh i got thinkware f800 pro in my car,
Check it got 3 parking mode function
1. Timelapse
2. Motion detection and impact
3. Energy saving (just impact)

Gonna get Viofo a129 IR for wife car, got interior cam coz recently got pecah tingkap.
Viofo parking mode how ar? Got all there like thinkware?
*
Viofo if used with the HK3 hardwire kit, can use their buffered parking mode. Which is like Thinkware's Motion and Impact detection parking mode but not 100% perfect.

There is a video about parking mode in the 1st post.

QUOTE(abubin @ Jan 20 2020, 06:09 PM)
Wait, I am a bit confused. So a proper parking mode means when car is parked, recording will be timelapse like 5 frame/sec. On motion or impact, it will go back to full speed recording.

Both viofo a129 and thinkware have it except thinkware does it better? What does better entails? Quality? Better motion/impact detection? Please enlighten, sifus.
*
Proper parking mode is when an impact or movement is detected, the dashcam will record 15 or 20 seconds before the incident and 15 or 20 seconds after the incident.

Most China dashcams have impact detected then start recording after the incident has happened. Or timelapse parking mode.

Korean dashcam is the pioneers of parking mode and the Thinkware has the best parking mode dashcam around. Blackvue is behind with other Korean dashcams.

Viofo is the 1st China dashcam company that managed to have the above like Korean dashcam end of 2019 but not perfect yet. Read in other forums that the voltage cutoff is not accurate for their parking mode. Example: Set 12v cutoff but will cutoff at 11.6v.

Hello all, currently I am using cheapo dashcam (FOC from SA when bought the car  biggrin.gif ), the one you usually those credit card sign up booth give out free, which finally failed after 1 year  sweat.gif can't record anymore.

Been thinking of changing since many months already, the idea of keep requiring taking out the SD card to delete the recording (yeah, no auto-loop function), else stop recording really very troublesome.

Any recommended cheap and good dashcam? Err.....budget RM150 possible?  blush.gif  Else, what is the entry level price for daschcam, at least with auto-loop function  laugh.gif ?

If possible, if got function to record after the engine shut off would be nice, coz you never know where some retards decide to use your car bonnet as canvas...too many crazy people around can't stand seeing car shinny and scratch free.

Thanks in advance for suggestion
*
All modern dashcams can loop record now. 70mai dashcam? BlueSkySea B1W?

RM150 dashcams don't have parking mode you want. Maybe a dashcam with timelapse parking mode but will need to hardwire to constant power from your car fusebox.

ok, thanks for the suggestion. If I want to have the time lapse parking mode, how much should i budget?

currently, I am looking at Xiaomi Mi Dashcam 1s. Yeah, budget way above what I stated. But, any thoughts?

or, what you suggestion, best bang for bucks, for dashcam with time lapse parking mode?

No point scrimp on the budget, but, end up, when you need the image when needed most, ie during accident, the image or video is useless  doh.gif

neither do i need super high end dash cam like i am filming professional live feed (coz I doubt anyone will be interested if with my driving skills or driving routine  laugh.gif )
*
If you really need parking mode then look at Viofo A119v3 or A129 Duo or A129 Pro Duo. These are China's first buffered parking mode dashcam that is almost perfect like the Korean dashcam.

Better will be Korean dashcam from Thinkware or Blackvue.

Also all info at the first post. Best to read there 1st. More on battery or capacitor based dashcams.

abubin already mentioned a few models in his previous reply. BlueSkySea B1W is the recommended budget capacitor dashcam.

Anyway, I recommend staying away from dashcams that use lithium battery inside as they don't last long like dashcams that use a capacitor.

Best to research first before buying to avoid regrets. Like abubin say different people different requirements/expectations.

If you can, try to find the older A119v2 which just phased out late 2019. It will be cheaper than the improved A119v3 with buffered parking mode.

It is higher up from the B1W in terms of video quality but lack buffered parking mode.

Supercapacitor dashcams which are closer to yr budget:

RM228

RM225

RM180 check with seller first for more details. Unclear which model he's selling as there seems to be 2 types in the photos.

DDPai Mini One is actually not bad. Can hardwire with it's hardwire kit for timelapse parking mode.

Hi, just bought new car and thinking to install dashcam. Came across this thread and have been reading from beginning to end (skipping some pages). Starting to get a sense of specs and prices.
May I ask, if I buy from shopee / lazada, and don't want to DIY install, what is the usual price range for installation only at most shops? (Hidden wires).
*
You can DIY install by watching Youtube videos. Unless you need to do hardwire or driving a hatchback like a Myvi.

It depends on the accessories shop. rm50-150.

QUOTE(abubin @ Jan 22 2020, 11:49 AM)
I have never asked at shops but from my survey, shops charge around RM60-RM80 for front and rear installation. If you only do front, I guess they would charge around RM50. The front installation is actually very easy. The rear one would be the one that takes up a lot of work as need to tap into reverse light and pulling wire to rear is tough for sedans.
*
Sedans are actually easier to install dual dashcam. A hatchback (Myvi, Axia, Jazz, Serena) as you'll need to route the wires to the rear trunk.

Why do you need to tap the reverse light? Don't require unless you got those China dashcams with a reverse cam function.

All rear dashcams I installed have reverse cam function. Didn't know those expensive ones don't have.

As for installation, my personal experience is sedans harder cause getting the wire through from inside cabin to trunk is a bit tricky. Other than that routing the wire is basically same.
*
Some manufacturers didn't implement reverse cam features due to making the dashcam more discreet with no screen.

Usually, the rear cam is stuck on the rear windscreen that's why is easier to install on sedans than hatchbacks.

But most dual dashcams with screen from China have an extra red wire on the rear cam to wiretap to the reverse light for reverse cam function.

Nothing to do with expensive or cheap dashcams.

Doesn’t mention anything about the thinkware like parking mode which record few sec before and after impact.

Btw anyone got written guide or video on DIY hardwire
Viofo dashcam? Myvi.
*
Update to the latest firmware v1.0 and above for A129 Duo IR to get the buffered parking mode.

Read more here:
https://www.viofo.com/en/blog/advanced-buff...g-mode-b22.html

Make sure you get the HK3 hardwire kit which is the 3 wires to use buffered parking mode. Not the 2 wires hardwire kit.
