You'll need to get a dashcam with parking mode.

QUOTE(Edward_Ng @ Nov 21 2019, 10:49 AM)
Hi all sifu , few weeks back i wanted to buy Viofo Duo from the authorise shop in Sunway. i went there the personnel explain to me Thinkware has better parking mode if i want to use that feature i should take thinkware instead of Viofo as he said parking mode in Viofo is not that great (he mentioned the Viofo Duo will sometimes cut off in parking mode of some sort)

In the end i listen to them and i took Thinkware. is that really the case for Viofo Duo??

by the way, everytime in parking mode. i set timer off for 24 hours and voltage off 12.2. i see the parking mode usually will be turn off after like 4-5 hours.  any solution for this?
*
Yes, Thinkware is known for its parking time. Because Viofo is quite new with their buffered parking mode compared to the experienced Thinkware.

Mine U1000 is set for 48 hours and 12v. But you will also consider how old is your car battery. A newer battery can last longer than the old battery.

QUOTE(Jack234 @ Nov 21 2019, 12:30 PM)
There was a discussion about this question, basically people said dashcam only need 1 or 2A fuses, more than 5A then risk of wire acting as fuse instead.
What do you think of this discussion?

I've been using 10A since F770 until today U1000 and don't have any issues yet.

what's your voltage cut off on the viofo? still thinking whether it is safe to install the hardwiring.  sweat.gif
*
Heard best to set 12.4v on the HK3 as the cutoff not that accurate. Hopefully, the future model will be better.

Hardwiring is safe but depends on the device's cutoff detection.

How long did it took for the installation to complete? And is there any electrostatic film provided for the dashcam to stick rather than sticking directly to the windscreen/ window tint?
*
If not mistaken will take an hour or 2 depending on the car model.

Don't think they provide electrostatic film. You can always get those clear roadtax sticker and ask them to stick on that if didn't want to stick directly on the windscreen.

Anyone knows where to buy 3M VHB double sided tape to remount dashcam? I’ve tried looking for it at ACE Hardware and Mr DIY but unable to find it.
*
You can buy any acrylic mounting tape. It's will function the same. Only the price is different between 3M and other brands.

I'm using these bought from Mr DIY and Ace.

Why called it rear view?
Would u suggest this or normal 70 mai instead?
*
Because you mount it on your rearview mirror laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Actually 70mai is not bad dashcams. Just that it is using a lithium battery inside only.

Can we hardwire 2 dashcams?
*
Yes.

QUOTE(OKLY @ Nov 22 2019, 07:47 PM)
I think I already have this at home. It can withstand the heat?

I bought a 3M foam tape but it came off under the hot sun. Maybe I’ll try this clear acrylic one.
*
Now all dashcam is mostly using black acrylic mounting tape. Certain Korean dashcam is using clear acrylic mounting tape.

Hi guys, i am new to dashcam and have few of question. I planing to buy 70mai pro
1. How long does the cam will drain off my battery in parking mode?
2. How does the sd card works?  Does the device will auto delete previous footage if the limit of sd card reached?
*
1. The 70mai Pro won't be connected to your car fuse box as it got it's own battery inside. The internal battery maybe can last more than 20 minutes of continuous recording. Unless you use the 70mai hardwire kit to hardwire to your car fuse box. The 70mai Pro is not a buffered parking mode. It will only start recording when an impact has triggered the g-sensor.
2. The microSD card is used to store the videos. All modern dashcam has loop recording functions that will overwrite older files first when full.

No need rm400 so much.

Sicurez charges rm220 for the Viofo A129 Duo installation.

Keyword = "overall"

Price differential between Sicurez base price for the A129 Duo and how much Imagination*_* paid in Lazada = RM799 - RM495 = RM304.
(This implies a minimum premium of 61.4% markup for a local warranty set!!)

As per Sicurez's Shopee page (https://shopee.com.my/VIOFO-A129-Duo-with-GPS-Official-Malaysia-Set.-i.114914275.1810634810)
Install with hardwire kit costs RM949, so that's RM150 on top of the base price of RM799. Assuming the cost of the hardwire kit is RM50, this implies that the cost of installation is RM100.

Ergo, overall cost savings is RM304 + RM100 = RM404.

Imagination*_* may have had to pay import duty if the CIF value was over RM500, maybe even appoint Pos Malaysia as clearing agent for RM50 and maybe pay for a SIRIM sticker, but as no other info was available, those potential additional costs were not taken into account. Also dunno if he got the hardwire kit included in the price, or he had to purchase it separately. If it was included in the price of the dashcam, then he saved RM454 smile.gif
*
Hahaha... Your imagination very keng sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Anyway thought you meant rm400+ for the installations only laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Think he didn't get the Viofo HK3 hardwire kit which is about rm70 if not mistaken. Then have to get fuse taps separately also rm15+- for a pack of 5pcs in Shopee...

Anyone with 70mai Pro wants to try custom firmware? Can see a great improvement in the image quality. But do take note of the risk of bricking the device is there.

going to get 70mai Rearview Mirror Dashcam over Viofo A120 Duo due to budget. also can support rear. Since quite new, anyone using it so far can share some experience?
*
The rear is 720p only if you get the addon rear cam. Not sure how clear it would be. The rear cam can also use as a reverse cam when you engage R gear. But I think need to mod and may void your car warranty.

I have no personal experience with that model, but last October I rode in a Grabcar that used it. I asked the drive how it performed. He said he was happy with it, got no problem, and, "When mat rempit see I got dashcam, they are not so daring." (more or less his words as I can remember).

Having any dashcam that works, even though not as canggih as the more expensive ones is better than having NO DASHCAM! Go for it! thumbup.gif

Thought you going to ask him to get mini0906 as best budget dual dashcam

QUOTE(andyng38 @ Nov 25 2019, 03:46 PM)
Remember when I asked u if there were rearview mirror dashcams that ran on supercapacitors? (u replied in the negative). Anyways at that time I had been considering to get one of those 70mai rearviews too, but eventually decided against it.

One positive thing about rearview dashcams is it won't look like a dashcam to the casual observer. We all have our own reasons for selecting various types of dashcams, and wongtk has his own reasons; one of them is it suits his budget. I understand that fully and see no reason to suggest a more expensive dashcam to him.

Abut an hour after I had bought the Mini 0906, I was strolling about looking for a place to eat at. Met the fellow who repaired my Sharp crt tv early this century and I belanja'd him makan. We talked dashcams, lipo batteries and supercapacitors. He said that it's not hard to replace lithium ion batteries in dashcams. The hardest part is 1) knowing when to replace it, and 2) opening up the dashcam to get to the battery without breaking anything biggrin.gif My SJcam 4000's were easy ...can see if the battery is swollen, yank it out and pop in a new one, and that's the limit of my skillz.

He also said that sometimes supercapacitors can go bad too or start failing, and if that happens to me, he can easily replace it for me. Just got to get the supercap of the correct size with the proper voltage and farad rating.
*
Personally I don't prefer rearview mirror dashcams because of the camera angle. Too inside the cabin and on the far left.

Yes, capacitors will eventually die also but won't die as fast as lithium batteries in hot weather.

Like you said need to get the correct batteries/capacitors and have the knowledge/skills/know how to change when spoilt. Not everyone got a TV repairman friend to help change the batteries/capacitors laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Yup very true... those rearviews r made for cars which drive on the other side of the road. For our use, the camera of the rearview should be on the right side to get better coverage; no one seems to make them that way nowadays.

From my own limited experience, lithiums will die/swell up in 1 yr to 14 months in a vehicle exposed to the Malaysian sun daily. And that is something I definitely did not want to face any more. Supercaps to the rescue!

IMO everyone should have a tv repairman friend, electrician/plumber pal, auto mechanic buddy etc. When I come across a tradesman who is honest and capable, I do try to establish a good relationship with them, recommend customers to them etc. Having goodwill can be most handy wink.gif
*
Most dashcam manufacturers are from China, Taiwan, and Korea which is all left-hand drive countries laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I do remember several rearview dashcams that had the camera on the right, in 2014 or 2013. Saw them in Lelong. Those days most cams were only 720p. I wanted a better resolution so I decided on using SJCams. Guess there wasn't enough demand to sustain those right-hand drive rearview cams.

Anyways...is there any fresh news on the Mini 0906 Pro model? I'm curious about it.

Can try asking Kintos as he is a seller of mini0906 dashcam
