Hello can anyone help me to recommend good dashcam I can buy? Below are some information

- Reasonably good and reliable dashcam
- No need recording during parking, just record while driving
- Prefer to have front and back dashcam
- Seldom drive at night, but don’t mind having superior quality/ high resolution recording
- Best is no need internal cabling, just plug and play (but if I need back dashcam I must do the cabling, despite not needing recording while parking?)

The Blackvue DR900X Plus doesn't look too bad too. Not sure about the support in Malaysia though. Will continue looking at these two... Or might just get the teyes dash cam together with the CC3 and call it a day lol.

Entry level - 70mai a800s ~450myr
Midrange - Viofo a129 Pro Duo ~1000myr
High end - Ddpai X5 Pro ~1800myr
Ultra high end - Thinkware u1000 / Blackvue DR900X Plus ~2700myr

Quality, especially the lens and ISP should go up as you move to a higher tier, but all of them should be reliable/usable enough based on reviews....

DDPAI Z40 users, can you shate if Z40 is equipped with ADAS function? And is it got the function like 70mai such as those forward collision warning, lane departure warning?

these DDPAI and iRoad X10 about the same price and VIOFO on the most economy 4K.

Hi want to ask if both 70mai A500S and DDPAI Z40 without hardwire both do not have event recording when car is switched off and parked? Means no 30 seconds recording in the event of if got hit when the car is parked?

My previous 70mai pro has this, don't plan to do hardwire on my new car due to warranty concerns.

what model in iroad is a competitor with thinkware F790 ?

I realized that even having 100GB+ card would not help much against 4K recording.

My bitrate was set to high (there's low, medium, high and max). FPS is 30.

1 minute of video was about 318MB. Yes, just 1 minute.

And that's just the front camera. The rear camera is 1080p, and it's about 140MB for 1 minute.

So in short, around 450MB total for 1 minute's worth of front and rear video.

Which means roughly 1 GB for 2 minutes.
Which means 100 GB for 200 minutes = 3 hours++ of recording.

I've dialed it down to 1080p, medium bitrate on both front and rear, and now at least it's 70MB each.

I guess it's a matter between how long do I want to keep stuff around vs how much detail do I want to capture (at least with the front 4K camera).

Any thoughts? Do I lose out a lot from 4K down to 1080? Or 4K is a bit of an overkill? I guess this is also probably why some dashcams e.g even certain Thinkware are ok with just 1080.

Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 30.3 Mb/s. 217MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 12.4 Mb/s. 88.8MB per 1min file.

H.264 High bitrate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 42.4 Mb/s. 303MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 14.3 Mb/s. 102MB per 1min file.

The H.265 encoding is a hidden mode in the A129 Pro Duo. To enable it, stop recording and hold the mic button on the A129 Pro Duo. An SD card icon will appear on the left side of the screen to indicate using H.265.

Will be tweaking based on the other config settings you've provided. And thanks for the tip on enabling the hidden H.265 feature (though not sure, since I'm on Pro Duo, and you assumed Pro Plus)

You should have gone for 70mai A500S Pro Plus+ of you wanted night vision

Any dashcam+rear camera+screen combos available anywhere? So far it seems screen+rear camera is common, but not including dashcam.

No, for me dashcam with screen not as useful (unless used as reverse/backup cam as well). Screen I'm talking about is those 5-7 inch screens/infotainment which can show reverse camera feed when reversing. Normally I can see those screen can be purchased with reverse cam, but not at all linked to dash cam or rear view dash cam.
