put expensive dashcam, not scared ppl pecah and steal ah?
*
My Honda City has been using a rm3k+ dashcam for more than 4 years. I am now also testing a 2nd dashcam is also worth around rm2k+. Total rm5k+ worth of dashcams.

Everyday park outside when I'm at work until 7am to 8pm. Nothing to fear also.

that's y. ive seen ppl break in cars for rm20.
*
Hahahaha... They can only take the main front cam. The rest is all hidden and it takes some work to remove. It's not as easy as you think.

I only saw once a car with a broken front window and the Yi dashcam wash missing from its mount.

Anyway, it's better to get a discreet dashcam and get it properly installed.

In most cases, the thieves target coins, cash notes, touch n go smart tag more. Not break in because target the dashcam to steal it.

Thinkware u1000 seems to be a 2019 product. Any idea if they're planning a successor?
*
U1000 is still good in 2022. No news on a successor yet but there are new model for the Q800 coming soon and the new F790 to replace the famous F700.

QUOTE(botak91 @ Apr 15 2022, 08:05 PM)
Do you have a specific model to recommend and would appreciate the reason for the recommendation.
Also, wondering if its realistic to get a dashcam that has front and rear cameras for under RM500.
*
Viofo look at A119V3 for single cam or A129 Plus Duo for dual cam.

If budget then DDPAI Z40 like what josh5671 recommended.

QUOTE(happyday85 @ Apr 16 2022, 01:04 AM)
Hello can anyone help me to recommend good dashcam I can buy? Below are some information

- Reasonably good and reliable dashcam
- No need recording during parking, just record while driving
- Prefer to have front and back dashcam
- Seldom drive at night, but don’t mind having superior quality/ high resolution recording
- Best is no need internal cabling, just plug and play (but if I need back dashcam I must do the cabling, despite not needing recording while parking?)

Thanks in advance
*
All dashcams will need cabling. The rear cam will need to plug into the front cam and the front cam will need power from somewhere like the ciggie port or fusebox if you hardwire..

I wish there was a wireless dashcam but sadly not yet.

QUOTE(arslow @ Apr 16 2022, 01:56 AM)
The Blackvue DR900X Plus doesn't look too bad too. Not sure about the support in Malaysia though. Will continue looking at these two... Or might just get the teyes dash cam together with the CC3 and call it a day lol.
*
I heard that Sicurez is going to be a Blackvue dealer soon. Can check with them later on that.

QUOTE(zhiyuanchan @ Apr 16 2022, 04:52 AM)
Which model is better to choose?
A129 Pro or Plus vs 70mai A800
*
A129 Plus hardware is newer than A129 Pro. Go for Plus if you want latest. Pro if you want 4K recording.

A800 is using a lithium-ion battery.

QUOTE(StephMujan @ Apr 16 2022, 11:58 AM)
Hi guys, any idea what is best dash cam for old car with no USB socket?

only have cigarette lighter socket or whatever its called.
*
All dashcam is using a USB charger via the ciggie port for power. Unless you hardwire it to the car battery or use the OBD port (not sure old cars will have this or not).

QUOTE(arslow @ Apr 16 2022, 08:57 PM)
From what I can see if we want 4k based dash cams :-

Entry level - 70mai a800s ~450myr
Midrange - Viofo a129 Pro Duo ~1000myr
High end - Ddpai X5 Pro ~1800myr
Ultra high end - Thinkware u1000 / Blackvue DR900X Plus ~2700myr

Quality, especially the lens and ISP should go up as you move to a higher tier, but all of them should be reliable/usable enough based on reviews....
*
Sorry but DDPAI is mid-high range like the Viofo A129 Pro Duo.

High end will be like lower range Korean dashcam like Finevu, iRoad, etc.

agree on your statement.
but 70mai A800S using battery 500mAh, do u receive any comment on the battery bloat / explode?
*
It will take about a year to know it will faulty or not

But coming from the history of dashcams that uses a lithium-ion battery. This is their weakness when used in hot countries.

DDPAI Z40 users, can you shate if Z40 is equipped with ADAS function? And is it got the function like 70mai such as those forward collision warning, lane departure warning?
*
Z40 was suppose to have ADAS but not sure if it implemented in the latest firmware or not.

Anyway the ADAS from 70mai is annoying.

Why annoying? and the z40 adas function got any estimated time to launch?
*
Unlike Thinkware, you set it to activate when you drive at certain speeds. Imagine you're slowly driving and the ADAS keeps prompting non-stop when you're slow driving like when looking for parking.

Not sure about DDPAI though. Have to wait and see as they just launched their Mola N3 Pro.

any idea to recommend, DDPAI Z5 Pro, VIOFO A129 Pro Duo, iRoad X10?
these DDPAI and iRoad X10 about the same price and VIOFO on the most economy 4K.
was thinking on DDPAI Z40 or iRoad X11...but both only 2K resolution.

another question, is 4K really necessary??
some say you no need 4K TV or monitor to see 4K dash cam video....

now me in dilemma...
*
If can really afford 4K then go for the best d. 2K is also good enough.

Yes, you'll need a 4K screen or TV to view it in all of its 4K glory.

I suggest you read up Singapore forum on iRoad 1st then decide.

DDPAI Z5 Pro is a bit expensive to swallow. At that price, I can get a good Korean dashcam.

Better to research 1st before deciding.

Hi, I just got 70mai A800s but I try download the footage from the album, it slow and keep fail after few mb transfer.

Any tips on this? And what the best configuration for this unit?

Video compression is high or low?
*
If not wrong, 1 min file is about 400mb. Need to transfer via wifi.

Usually, I prefer to take out the micro sd card and watch on PC.

It's using H.265 if not wrong.

You can try asking Sicurez in Sunway.

How to know which model got capacitor?

I looking for front and back 2 in 1 package got ka? Budget less than 1k.
*
Usually they will state supercapacitor or battery with the capacity like 100mAh.

Usually those don't state is using battery.

70mai is all battery.

Any idea why F790 is so popular ? even though it is only 1080p

I was thinking to go for F200 Pro but most  tell me go for F790. That extra RM700 is worth it they say
*
F790 has lots of new features and it is the replacement model for the famous F700.

F200 is an entry-level model. GPS module has to buy separately.

Anyway, the final decision is yours.

Hi want to ask if both 70mai A500S and DDPAI Z40 without hardwire both do not have event recording when car is switched off and parked? Means no 30 seconds recording in the event of if got hit when the car is parked?

My previous 70mai pro has this, don't plan to do hardwire on my new car due to warranty concerns.

Appreciate your advice. Thanks!
*
70mai latest firmware doesn't have that function anymore as they want you to buy the hardwire kit and use that instead.

DDPAI using a supercapacitor so will need a hardwire kit also.

QUOTE(boyan @ Apr 21 2022, 09:37 AM)
I realized that even having 100GB+ card would not help much against 4K recording.

My bitrate was set to high (there's low, medium, high and max). FPS is 30.

1 minute of video was about 318MB. Yes, just 1 minute.

And that's just the front camera. The rear camera is 1080p, and it's about 140MB for 1 minute.

So in short, around 450MB total for 1 minute's worth of front and rear video.

Which means roughly 1 GB for 2 minutes.
Which means 100 GB for 200 minutes = 3 hours++ of recording.

I've dialed it down to 1080p, medium bitrate on both front and rear, and now at least it's 70MB each.

I guess it's a matter between how long do I want to keep stuff around vs how much detail do I want to capture (at least with the front 4K camera).

Any thoughts? Do I lose out a lot from 4K down to 1080? Or 4K is a bit of an overkill? I guess this is also probably why some dashcams e.g even certain Thinkware are ok with just 1080.
*
Viofo A129 Pro Plus?

Try 2K with medium bitrate and see.

I usually stay on 4K with medium bitrate.

Usually, bigger the resolution and higher bitrate the bigger the file size.

Another thing you can try is to enable the H.265 mode but the A129 Pro will feel a bit hotter than before as it will be using more processing power and older PC or phones might not be able to watch H.265 smoothly.

Below is what I got with mine with 4K resolution.

QUOTE
Bitrate settings

There are 4 bitrate settings that you can set on the A129 Pro. Below is the information for H.264 & H.265 encoding for the 4 bitrate settings.

H.264 Low bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 15.3 Mb/s. 110MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 10.3 Mb/s. 73.9MB per 1min file.

H.264 Medium bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 30.3 Mb/s. 217MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 12.4 Mb/s. 88.8MB per 1min file.

H.264 High bitrate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 42.4 Mb/s. 303MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 14.3 Mb/s. 102MB per 1min file.

H.264 Maximum bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 60.3 Mb/s. 431MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 16.2 Mb/s. 116MB per 1min file.

H.265 Low bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 13.7 Mb/s. 97.7MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 8,665 kb/s. 62MB per 1min file.

H.265 Medium bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 22.4 Mb/s. 160MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 10.3 Mb/s. 73.9MB per 1min file.

H.265 High bitrate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 34.5 Mb/s. 247MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 12.4 Mb/s. 88.8MB per 1min file.

H.265 Maximum bit rate
Front cam: 3840×2160 30fps – Overall bit rate: 52.4 Mb/s. 375MB per 1min file.
Rear cam: 1920×1080 30fps – Overall bit rate: 14.5 Mb/s. 104MB per 1min file.

The H.265 encoding is a hidden mode in the A129 Pro Duo. To enable it, stop recording and hold the mic button on the A129 Pro Duo. An SD card icon will appear on the left side of the screen to indicate using H.265.

Haha I won this dashcam free so ROI is infinite =)

No, for me dashcam with screen not as useful (unless used as reverse/backup cam as well). Screen I'm talking about is those 5-7 inch screens/infotainment which can show reverse camera feed when reversing. Normally I can see those screen can be purchased with reverse cam, but not at all linked to dash cam or rear view dash cam.
*
Don't see those around.

Usually those "multi functions" dashcam are not that good.

Better to invest in a dashcam and a reverse cam separately.
