TBH I rather have 0 dividend because dividends are subjected to 30% withholding tax rate. It’s better to have capital gains all the way.
*
Why not both hahaa.

QUOTE(Krv23490 @ Dec 2 2019, 12:09 PM)
Yeah, I rather the previous portfolio. I think they switched to slightly more defensive cause they were anticipating a downturn. The portfolio seems to be more defensive compared to the older one. I am on risk 36.

Hence we could have more returns because the market rebounded and went to new records.
*
Yup. Hopefully that is the case smile.gif

Impressive yields, but this year was a relatively bullish year. Next year might be the real test for SA smile.gif

This
Everyone is happy now with the high or at least positive yield.
If stashaway manage to continue this trend even in bear market, I will be genuinely impressed. Hopefully that'll be the case.

DEPEND ON YOUR OWN RISK APPETITE

Now bull market, we can see all the post on the good return etc which tbh no one really cares and is not contributing to the topic. More and more people without basic investing knowledge will thought it's a guarantee return. If thing continue to go up then it's all good.

But when market goes sideway, hopefully all of us here can stomach the loss and not panic sell or complain about the losses. Since we made the decision to invest and setting the risk index on our own.

Cheers

Hi guys im reading more about SA and am currently at this page now. Can someone explain how this transitions to annualised return of over 10%? Understand a little better but can't understand how it gets 10% annual returns?

http://www.ci.com/makingsense/

I'm a bit lost on how to start but im comfortable investing around RM500 per month and DCA for long term.
*
It's not guarantee return
It can not only earn u 10%, it might also can lose u 10% or more.
Make sure u understand what is investing/etc first before making your decision.

Well understood that it is not guaranteed returns and have not been expecting that. Was rather quoting the "2.52% money weighted return/2.66 time weighted return" and how it translates to 10% projected returns.
*
I think he calculate this way

2 month 2.66%
So 12 month will be 2.66 * 6 = 10+%
Something like this.

QUOTE(joeaverage @ Dec 25 2019, 01:22 PM)
I have an FD if abt rm20k that's maturing soon. Money that I don't immediately need and can be for retirement fund. Plan to put it in SA.

1. Would it be better to do lump sum or break it down to several hundreds over a few wks / months?

2. Also, since its long term - should I wait till Feb or March and see if there's a correction since markets had done so well lately or it doesn't matter.

Thanks.
*
DCA

Yeah sure, you can wait till the recession/correction no problem. If lucky then u can sweep a huge profit. If it doesn't happen then u can just let ur money stay in ur bank account smile.gif. So best bet is to offer sacrifices to the lady of luck and hope that correction/recession happen when u r prepared to deposit ur money.

A few phrases for you, time in the market > timing the market and do your own dd. It's your money.

Thanks buddy.

Would you or anyone here know if there's a way to benefit from a referral code (6 mths) and the boost code (3 mths) so I get 9 months free of management fee?
*
They won't stack the date. They will just overlap
So u will have to time the referral/boost expiry date.

But the amount exempted from the fee will stack

Hi guys,

Am new here. May I know what does DCA mean ? From the conversations going on here, it seems like you guys are doing recurring deposits of small amounts to 'average' so to speak?

Please help clarify. Newbie here smile.gif
*
You are correct
U can learn more by googling dollar cost averaging (DCA)

Thank you bro appreciate it greatly wink.gif

Been a trader in crypto and stocks all these years, but we don't bother using DCA term. Thus, the confusion. Haha.
*
Yes, it's quite a different strategy since this is passive investing

QUOTE(l4nc3k @ Dec 27 2019, 02:02 PM)
Only applicable if you have multiple portfolios under SA, eg 36% with 10%.

Normally in this case you try to pick portfolios with different underlying assets because thats how you mitigate risk to even lower level / get a balanced overall portfolio.
*
I wonder
If 36% is too high for u guys, why not lower the risk instead of opening multiple portfolio.

Mutilple portfolio if amount too small, you might missed out some of the dividend. And it's so messy too.

Just stick to one profile then invest in other investment vehicles.

Each time i look at my SA, I so scared this gonna turn out to be hit and run.
*
Then u can choose other investment vehicle. It's ur choice, no one force u to invest in SAMY. If investing in SAMY make you worried about it everyday then better invest in somewhere else that suit your risk appetite.

QUOTE(bokbokchai @ Dec 27 2019, 06:02 PM)
What do you mean ?
*
I think he wanna say that SAMY might be a dodgy investment vehicle. If something bad happened, eg recession then SAMY will bail out with all our money stuck in SAMY.

QUOTE(Gwynbleidd @ Dec 27 2019, 06:38 PM)
I think he meant a crash/recession. Although it's inevitable anyways. When it happens it's a matter of being patient till it recovers.
*
I think he not only worry about the crash but also the concern mentioned above.

dopp, just a question for you. Do u understand what does SAMY invest in?

Lol, do you even know how SA works ? Markets are at ATH now hence the good returns
*
This. Many dunnoe what SAMY is investing in then already dip their hand into it.

For all users,

Passive investing is all good especially for those that don't feel like researching too much but we still need to do some minimal due diligence on the platform we are investing in.

We need to at least know the ETF choices and study a little bit about what the ETF holds. Can also roughly keep track of the performance too if wanna ensure that the return shown in SA is similar to what reflected by the ETFs.

If we dunnoe anything then invest, later if market happened to goes sideway then many will ignorantly blame StashAway and call it a scam that make them lose money. Then we might ended up losing this great platform.
