i also swim 2 or 3 times weekly before at a club house. I swim at night usually after 7pm, But what scares me is that I tend to get sick often compared to before I started my routine. usually fever, flu or cough. Also I not sure why, but I feel yucky when I see somethings in the pool like any foreign stuff. Hence, next month Im trying to swim in another club house with another pool, hopefully I dont get sick often.

Also I think in Malaysia the weather is not nice to swim there are times i go change come out and its raining so I cant swim.

But its a good solo sport and can really can keep you healthy if you mix swimming with gym.

Maybe you should swim in the afternoon during warmer hours and try to avoid aircon place immediate after u exit the swimming pool.

After swim and exposed to aircon is not good for body, can get sick.

I prefer public pool, because they are usually warmer and exposed to sunlight. Club house and condo swim pools tend to be colder due to obstruction of sunlight by the surrounding high rise buildings.

I never feel comfortable swimming at open sea though. Seeing the fishes and weird huge sea animals swim beneath me is very unsettling to me.

Condo swimming pool is ok, 25meters is sufficient for butterfly strokes.

You need a coach to guide you in open sea swimming.

I did some swimming when practising for Ironman Malaysia last year. Each swim session around 2-3km, twice a week.

Active swimmer here, swim 2k km per session, 4 times a week.
Need cool water to swim laps so your body won't get overheat.

Training for Swimon open water events, next 10k km event in PD.
My pace is very bad 2m++ every 100m.

I have settled down here in Penang and chose Spice Setia Aquatic as my main play ground, top notch & well maintained facility. Permata Sport Complex is nice too, cheap but too far for me.

2m for every 100m is bad? Then should be a good swimming pace?

Not exactly 2 minutes...2m15s +- at long distance pace. If can cut by 30s I am very happy already.
Still need 2 hours to complete a 5k km swim..

Must try - it is fun actually...

You can overcome the fear - the visibility is zero at places like Port Dickson - really need to know how to sight if you swim free style else you will stray off course.
Can't see anything under water. Sighting and drafting are essential in open water swimming..

I swim 3-4 times a week, but stamina not good. 1000m (front crawl) is the max distance for me. Very boring swimming laps, so no plan to improve.

Butterfly stroke i cannot even complete 50m... 25m already a challenge

just a bit scary for me in open sea. Never feel comfortable.

open water swim actually is fun. and for a swimmer u will enjoy anytime in a good vis almost lake like open water swim. it is easier to float in sea so no worry. Train to have confident in floating skill first before u start swimming.

i did a few swimming marathon last time. now a fat uncle but my floating skill is top 1 top 2 even amongst good swimmers

Anything more than 1km might be boring swimming in the pool. Unless go w friends.

That's why Open Water is gaining popularity with strong swimmers. SWIMON organise clinics in PD and Putrajaya before their races.

fat of course floating is top 3 lah.... rclxs0.gif .. joking only... jangan marah icon_rolleyes.gif

I can float but very low in the water and legs sink. Salt water easier to float but when got waves it can easily go over nose and mouth.

Hi,

Since this is a fitness forum, how many of you swim regularly?

It's one of the best exercise there is, but surprisingly not many people talk about it.

I picked up swimming last year in order for me to do my first Ironman. Now the longest I can swim is 6.5kms (during Kapas- Marang open water event in 2018) with 1 or 2 stops for hydration. All I can say is, swimming is doable - as long you have the passion to master it.

I go to the pool 2 times a week. I swim at 5 morning to keep up with work. Swimming helps me to improve breathing and it has a good effect on the heart.
I have been swimming for 3 years and feel great. It helps me before the working day. I am energized for the whole day.
