Since this is a fitness forum, how many of you swim regularly?
It's one of the best exercise there is, but surprisingly not many people talk about it.

QUOTE(Harry_Bobinski @ Feb 20 2019, 11:37 AM) All you need is just a 30 mins HIIT swimming for weight loss. I think most who are swimming in Malaysia just do it during weekends family day - At least that is what I can see in my condo they dip in water only, and mostly breaststroke. how can burn any fat like that? |

QUOTE(pilotHans @ Mar 8 2019, 09:56 AM) there's always swimming events one can join .then u will be more focus to train I never feel comfortable swimming at open sea though. Seeing the fishes and weird huge sea animals swim beneath me is very unsettling to me.there not many condos with olympic size pools. name me a few if you can. most condos infinity /25meters lengh. so i'd opt for an public olympic pool which cost only a few RMs Condo swimming pool is ok, 25meters is sufficient for butterfly strokes. |

QUOTE(pilotHans @ Mar 8 2019, 10:29 AM) open water swim is a different thing. but nice. if you swim in PD, i doubt you will see any fishes due to the visibility. just a bit scary for me in open sea. Never feel comfortable.if you swim some islands..then only you might see some fishes just watch out for the jelly fishes, then ur good |

QUOTE(Ash muhammad 28 @ Mar 8 2019, 11:14 AM) i also swim 2 or 3 times weekly before at a club house. I swim at night usually after 7pm, But what scares me is that I tend to get sick often compared to before I started my routine. usually fever, flu or cough. Also I not sure why, but I feel yucky when I see somethings in the pool like any foreign stuff. Hence, next month Im trying to swim in another club house with another pool, hopefully I dont get sick often. Maybe you should swim in the afternoon during warmer hours and try to avoid aircon place immediate after u exit the swimming pool. Also I think in Malaysia the weather is not nice to swim there are times i go change come out and its raining so I cant swim. But its a good solo sport and can really can keep you healthy if you mix swimming with gym. After swim and exposed to aircon is not good for body, can get sick. I prefer public pool, because they are usually warmer and exposed to sunlight. Club house and condo swim pools tend to be colder due to obstruction of sunlight by the surrounding high rise buildings. |

QUOTE(Wolger @ May 13 2019, 10:28 AM) Active swimmer here, swim 2k km per session, 4 times a week. freestyle or breast stroke 2km? (50m x 40 laps not bad)Need cool water to swim laps so your body won't get overheat. Training for Swimon open water events, next 10k km event in PD. My pace is very bad 2m++ every 100m. I have settled down here in Penang and chose Spice Setia Aquatic as my main play ground, top notch & well maintained facility. Permata Sport Complex is nice too, cheap but too far for me. p/s not so much into open water swimming, have phobia of sea... This post has been edited by Chrono-Trigger: May 13 2019, 02:09 PM |

QUOTE(dogbert_chew @ May 29 2019, 02:59 PM) Anything more than 1km might be boring swimming in the pool. Unless go w friends. open swimming aduh... have to worry about river pollution, sea snakes, collision with hard objects/stones/ rip current/ hantu air... That's why Open Water is gaining popularity with strong swimmers. SWIMON organise clinics in PD and Putrajaya before their races. too scary for me This post has been edited by Chrono-Trigger: May 29 2019, 03:18 PM |

QUOTE(Fenix98 @ Aug 15 2019, 10:46 PM) There are some maybe not on Lyn, cuz I got some training from this guy... Same area at the time. That might be a bit too extreme. Is he very toned or just thin build? may end up with marathon runners type of body with that sort of extreme.Hes mad slightly over 2.1 - 2.4km in 42, 43 mins... Took me a year to get that timing... 54mins 2km Probably can't do it cuz haven't swam in a year.. P/S For what it's worth, the past participle of swim is swum... not swam... *haven't swum* This post has been edited by Chrono-Trigger: Aug 16 2019, 12:04 AM |

QUOTE(iluvfood @ Aug 15 2019, 07:46 AM) I used to swim twice a week. On the contrary, I see it as time saving as you don't have to shower at home after that. but now long time didn't go swimming already coz busy. Also, I find it leceh to need to change to swimsuit then after swimming need to shower again (I'm female though). I agree it's a bit leceh for females to swim. Modesty and things like that. but having said that, guys are getting very modest these days too, mostly due to body image problem This post has been edited by Chrono-Trigger: Aug 16 2019, 12:10 AM |

QUOTE(Fenix98 @ Aug 16 2019, 12:10 AM) yea, I have seen some swimmers that do many laps, but they don't have good body tone strangely. Too much protein lost during extreme calories burn. Marathon runners also like that. This post has been edited by Chrono-Trigger: Aug 16 2019, 12:14 AM |

QUOTE(Bearberry @ May 27 2020, 09:57 PM) Hello all pro swimmers here. I couldn't seem to find any thread related to swimming other than this. I'm a total beginner in swimming and I really want to be a better swimmer (also to have better stamina) for my health after MCO ends. Need instructor if u want to swim properly. If you are talented , very fast u pick up. No instructor , no one to correct your strokes. Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I want to learn how to tread water by myself and swim a longer distance. As most of you are experienced swimmers, do you think it's possible for me to do it without an instructor? |

QUOTE(un.deux.trois @ May 28 2020, 11:44 AM) I still don't have confidence to go to water deeper than my shoulders even though i can swim I think modern swim pool all have shoulder height at its deepest part only.I personally dislike the deep swim pool , can drown if got cramp or accidentally swallow water especially when you do butterfly. |
